The brightness of D Major is perfect for string orchestra, and the yellow color of the mimosa flower reminds me of this key. Mimosa Shower opens with a vivid impressionistic introduction, followed by a gently flowing theme. Every instrument plays the melody which flows side to side. Yukiko Nishimura creates a dialogue between the sections of the orchestra, asking each part to have awareness of the conversation and to respond musically. The orchestra creates harmonies which ebb and flow as the wind blows through the mimosas. Béla Bartók's series of piano pieces For Children, based on folk melodies, was written around the end of the first decade of the 20th century. The pieces were published shortly afterwards by the Hungarian publisher Károly Rozsnyai. That first publication was in four volumes, the first two containing a total of 42 pieces based on Hungarian folk tunes, the third and fourth containing 43 pieces based on Slovakian folk tunes.In 1943, whilst in the United States, Bartók prepared a revised version of the collection for the publishers Boosey and Hawkes. The revisions were minimal: two Hungarian and four Slovakian songs were eliminated, there were a few minor alterations incorporating new ideas, some of the pieces previously written with accidentals had key signatures added, a few pieces were rewritten with changed meters - some fingerings were added or changed.The composer prepared the revised 1943 edition by using copies of the first edition on which he marked minor changes - where the changes were more extensive, fresh manuscript was written and a new version engraved. However, much of the engraving of the first edition was preserved in the 1943 edition. Publication took place in 1946, after the composer's death - it is not known if he saw final proofs prior to printing.The revised edition was published in two volumes, which now have been published together as one volume for the first time. / Piano

for solo cello-Orbit is a work composed by acclaimed minimalist composer Philip Glass for Solo Cello. Orbit was commissioned by Damian Woetzel and premiered on the 2nd of April 2013 in a performance bycellist Yo-Yo Ma and dancer Lil Buck at Le Poisson Rouge in New York. The performance was a celebration of the collaboration between an incredible young dancer an unbelievable cellist and one of the mostaccomplished composers of the modern day. This Philip Glass sheet music however is all about the music. With a softly-evolving melody that begins as a basic pattern before turning back on itself and transforming Orbitis the perfect soundtrack to a marriage of virtuoso musicianship expressive dance and achingly tender solo instrumental composition. Gustav Holst has earned a place among the most revered of late 19th and early 20th century composers and is best known for his enduring Orchestral suite The Planets.But before that great work in his use of Englsh folksongs Gnostic texts and these Vedic hymns one can discern Holst’s search for a compositional Voice beyond the constraints of the European canon in the early 1900’s. In Savitri he makes use of modal styles bitonality austerity ofOrchestration in some places richness of texture in others and an ability to suggest Indian exoticism. The piece has a performance time of thirty minutes and has minimal staging requirements.

Philip Herbert is a British composer based in Leicester. This delightful and wistful piece started life as a dance project with choreographer Henry Oguike and was first performed in its entirety in 2013 in Leicester as part of Black History Month. This slightly abridged version gives the Oboe a singing line of great beauty. Herbert himself notes that he combines 'hypnotic and expressive melismas in the melodic line supported by the accompaniment supplied by the Piano which draws on the influence of minimalism and chordal figuration that is to be found in some of the keyboard preludes of J.S. Bach'. The E flat section in the middle providessome contrast and the delicately ornamented ending brings the piece to a calm conclusion. The metronome mark should be carefully noted so that the piece floats and flows nicely without getting stuck and indulgent.

The second string quartet by Philip Glass is a lyrical almost romantic piece with strong prominant melodies and deceptively simplistic arrangement that reflects his pioneering minimal compositions. The piece began life as a scorefor Mabou Mines the New York theater company that counted him as 'unofficial' composer for almost three decades and the name comes from the Samuel Beckett play Company.

Par ROZMAN ANZE. An?e Rozman's Waking of the Green Spring (Prebujanje zelene pomladi) draws together Impressionism and Minimalism as it paints an image of the titular spring erupting to life. The piece opens with the four flutes painting a mysterious running texture based in whole tones, swelling and fading in turns. The central slower section creates an almost reverent choral sound with large blocks of chords, building again into the opening textures but colored with more complex melodies and staccato runs. Water Dances is a work scored for two pianos from 2011. Much of the work is an arrangement of the music written for the Michael Nyman Band for Peter Greenaway's 1984 film Making a Splash.
