Richard Erkens war freier Musikjournalist und Leitender Musikdramaturg sowie Stellvertretender Operndirektor am Theater Lubeck. Zurzeit ist er Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Musikgeschichtlichen Abteilung des Deutschen Historischen Instituts in Rom.
