Johann Sebastian Bach: Keyboard Works Attributed To J.S. Bach: Piano:

[Sheet music]

(+)
This edition complements the volume of Keyboard Works of Doubtful Authenticity (BA 5250).It contains works which have survived bearing Johann Sebastian Bach?s name or were later attributed to Bach but where Bach has been ruled out as composer in the opinion of the editors on stylistic grounds or following a critical examination of the sources. But having said that it is hard to be negative about these compositions which are of a consistently high quality. Furthermore this is largely unknown repertoire; almost half of the pieces in the volume are previously unpublished. As a result this edition invites curious and open-minded musicians on avoyage of discovery.- Critical edition based on the guidelines of the ?New Bach Edition?.- Largely unknown repertoire with several works published as first editions.- Foreword (Ger/Eng) and detailed Critical Commentary (Ger/Eng).Contents:PrefaceSarabande g-Moll BWV 839Fuge a-Moll BWV 897/2Präludium und Fuge B-Dur über den Namen Bach BWV 898Fantasie g-Moll BWV 920Fuge e-Moll BWV 945Fue e-Moll BWV 960 (Fragment)Suite F-Dur BWV Anh. 80Gigue G-Dur Anh. 81Fantasie c-Moll BWV ANh. 86Fantasie C-Dur BWV Anh. 87: Erste Fassung / First Version Zweite Fassung / Second versionFuge C-Dur BWV Anh. 89Fuge e-Moll BWV Anh. 95Fuga G-Dur BWV Anh. 91Fuga e-Moll BWV Anh. 93Fuge G-Dur BWV Anh. 92Fuge D-Dur BWV Anh. 96Fuge d-Moll BWV Anh. 98Fuge d-Moll BWV Anh. 99Fuge d-Moll BWV Anh. 100Fuge d-Moll BWV Anh. 100 - Variante / Alternative versionFuge es-Moll BWV Anh. 102Drei Fugen über B A C H:1. (+)
The follow-up to the hugely successful Essential Acoustic Playlist, this companion volume features another 70 classic tunes for the acoustic guitar. This book focuses on classic indie hits from the 80s, 90s and beyond. With names like Pulp, Manic Street Preachers, Supergrass, Radiohead, Blur and The Verve all represented, acoustic indie fans need look no further. The book also features a couple of tracks rarely seen in print, such as the classic 'Shine On' from The House Of Love and Jeff Buckley's beautiful version of 'Lilac Wine'. Each song is presented very simply, with lyrics and chord symbols, so there's no need to be able to read music. As with all products on this site, the arrangements are guaranteed accurate and have been checked by an experienced editor. The chord shapes given are authentic and sound great on an acoustic guitar. The book features simple 'lyrics and chords' format; authentic and easy chord shapes given for every song; includes capo and tuning information where appropriate. Songlist: (I'm Gonna) Cry Myself Blind (Primal Scream); A Design For Life (Manic Street Preachers); A Little Like You (Grand Drive); A Man Needs To Be Told (The Charlatans); A Minha Meninha (The Bees); Ain't That Enough (Teenage Fanclub); All Together Now (The Farm); Alright (Supergrass); Am I Wrong (Mull Historical Society); American English (Idlewild); Average Man (Turin Brakes); Beetlebum (Blur); Buy It In Bottles (Richard Ashcroft); Can You Dig It? Cantata for Easter Sunday-Christ lag in Todes Banden (Christ lay by death enshrouded / Christ lay in grim death's prison ) BWV 4Cantata for Easter SundayUrtext of the New Bach Edition.Original German text with English singing translation.Idiomatic and easy-to-play Piano reduction.Performance material (BA10004) vocal score (BA10004-90) & study score (TP1004) available for sale.Bärenreiter's editions of Bach Cantatas offer the authoritative text of the New Bach Edition meeting Bärenreiter Urtext standards. No group of works in Johann Sebastian Bach?s output is as wide-ranging as the cantatas. This is hardly surprisingconsidering that for over five years Bach was required to compose a work or at least re-work an existing one for every Sunday and festival of the church year as well as for numerous secular occasions such as council inaugurations school and university celebrations and royal birthdays. Unfortunately not all cantatas have survived. However over 200 sacred and secular works exist and form a corpus of works suitable for all possible occasions. This rich musical heritage is still as relevant today as it was then.

Edited with additional material from the Salzburg version“In Italy nowadays this term (motet) is applied to a Latin sacred solo cantata consisting of two arias and two recitatives concluding with an Hallelujah and sung during the Mass following the Credo generally by one of the best singers.” One composition matching this description is the solo motet Exsultate jubilate K. 165/158a which Mozart wrote in Milan early in 1773 following the highly successful performance of his opera Lucio Silla. In 1978 when the music manuscripts in Bavaria were being sorted and cataloged in a project sponsored by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft a set ofmanuscript parts for a previously unknown second version was discovered in the town parish church of St. Jakob in Wasserburg am Inn. The music and text of the concluding Alleluja movement were written out by the Salzburg court bassoonist and copyist Joseph Richard Estlinger (c. 1720–1791) who frequently worked for Mozart and his father. The vocal text of this Salzburg manuscript departs from that of the Milan version in the first aria and in the recitative. It was entered in a different hand. The Salzburg version of the text is clearly related to the feast of the Holy Trinity. There is much evidence that this version was sung for the first time in the Dreifaltigkeitskirche on 30 May 1779 (i. e. Trinity Sunday) by the Salzburg male soprano Francesco Ceccarelli during a service mentioned by Nannerl Mozart. On that day Leopold and Wolfgang Mozart together with Ceccarelli were invited to the church’s vicarage at midday. The additional text underlaying of the first aria enabled the solo motet to be employed for the Christmas service as well.- Urtext of the New Mozart Edition- Full score performance material (BA4897) and vocal score (BA4897-90) available for sale

(+)
Castle on a Cloud is sung by the child Cosette in Les Misérables. It is a hopeful song of her imaginary world where life is beautiful and she is not subjected to the drudgery of her hard existence. Sylvia Woods has arranged this lilting song for lever or pedal harp. There are 7 lever changes in the piece so it is for lower intermediate to intermediate level players. Fingerings and lyrics are included as well as lever and pedal changes. Two 2-page versions are included: one for lever harps tuned to C and the other for lever harps tuned to flats. Pedal harpists can play either version. The arrangement for lever harps tuned to C is in the key of D (2 sharps) with A and Clever changes needed. The arrangement for lever harps tuned to flats is in the key of C with B and G lever changes needed. Either version may be played on most small harps with about 26 strings if you play everything an octave higher than written. There are special instructions in the introduction telling you what you'll need to change if you have a small harp.

(+)
Includes versions for High Medium or Low Voice (G F or E flat) with Piano accompaniment. Performance note by Gordon Stewart.Preface:The words for Panis Angelicus are from a longer hymn text Sacris Solemnis written by St Thomas Aquinas in the thirteenth century for the newly established Feast of Corpus Christi and would originally have been sung to a plainchant. César Franck set this verse of seven lines in 1872. His deep religious feelings fashioned a memorable melody one which is within the scope of all singers - its range is only a seventh and if you follow the word patterns the breathing sits comfortably. It is in its way simple and direct but with the chance to use the voice to its full. The Latin words are not hard to sing but if you prefer to perform it in English the translation conveys the essential meaning. Franck originally wrote Panis Angelicus for Tenor Cello Harp Organ and Double Bass but it slips easily into the Keyboard arrangement. The colours of the original scoring are evident the Organ's sustained chords the semi-staccato notes for the Harp and the Cello's countermelody beginning in bar 38 (which could be transferred to another melodic instrument if that suits the occasion). Some discreet repetition of the long tied notes and doubling of the bass at the octave can give the Piano more resonance. The accompaniment probably works best with a minimum pedalling and an Organist's style of fingering. The dynamics ask for a triumphant final statement of the words 'pauper servus' in bar 53. It makes complete musical sense to make a diminuendo for the word 'humilis' in bar 56 leading to a thoughtful postlude.
