French born harpist and composer Marcel Grandjany (1891-1975) studied at the Paris Conservatoire before spending much of his working life in America. His Rhapsodie For Harp was composed in 1921 and is a sublime addition to the Harp's repertoire. Grandjany was a teacher of Harp at the Juilliard School for 37 years whilst also composing and transcribing many works for the instrument. Rhapsodie For Harp is based on a theme of a Gregorian Easter chant intended to be accompanied by Orchestra. The ?Flower Duet? is from the 1883 opera Lakme by Leo Delibes. Normally sung by 2 women Sylvia has arranged this lovely song for solo harp. Although you may not be familiar with the title of his lyrical pieces you have probably heard it in commercials for companies such as Ghirardelli Chocolate and British Airways. The sheet music includes two 2-page versions both in the key of A (3 sharps). They are basically the same except that oneis for lever harps tuned to C and the other requires a B-flat. Fingerings are included as well as lever and pedal changes. For intermediate players. Playable on lever harps and pedal harps.

Gabriel Pierné (1863-1937) was a French composer conductor and organist. Despite being predominantly remembered as a conductor his Impromptu-Caprice remains a popular performance piece in the advanced harpists' repertoire. Pierné studied at the Paris Conservatoire before taking up the position of chief conductor for the concert series Concerts Colonne in 1910. He remained in the post until 1933 and during this time he notably conducted the world premiere of Igor Stravinsky's 'The Firebird'. Pierné composed for a variety of instruments Impromptu-Caprice being one of four solo worksby the composer. This Pierné piece for Harp contains many characteristics typical of the French style such as significant tempo changes flourishes of semiquavers and many alterations in dynamics. Impromptu-Caprice is a varied piece essential to the repertoire of aspiring harpists.

Célèbres Études pour la harpe-Composed by?Nicolas-Charles Bochsa Twenty-five studies Op. 62?is a set of part of the 'Favourite studies' from the same author for intermediate and advanced Harp players. Reviewed by Alphonse Hasselmans each studies has a different difficulty level and can be played separately. This set of studies will help the Harpist to gain in flexibility and speed and would ideally be played on pedal Harps. In the same series Bochsa also composed a set of 'Forty easy studies Op. 318' a set of 'Twenty studies' in two books and one called 'Fifty studies Op.34'. All these sets havebeen reviewed by Alphonse Hasselmans professor at the Paris Conservatoire who also indicated the best finger positions to use.

The Harpsicle Harp Method book is an excellent tool for learning to play the Harpsicle Harp or any size Harp from the very beginning. No musical knowledge is necessary to use this method. All the music is written inthe keys of C Major and A minor so no sharping levers or pedals are needed.
