The Queens Service-SATB and organStanford's Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in F was written in 1872 while the composer was a choral and organ scholar at Queens' College Cambridge. Though early in date the work already shows his remarkable talent for composition and his gift for writing large-scale choral music. Edited by Ralph Woodward a latter-day organ scholar of Stanford's old college the setting is entitled The Queens' Service to distinguish it from the more well-known service in the same key. The work has been recorded by Queens' College Chapel Choir on Mirabilis Records (MMSCD4).

An unusual setting of the Magnificat And Nunc Dimittis by Tarik O'Regan written for a double chorus with Cello or Soprano Saxophone. The works were commissioned separately by Timothy Brown for the Choir of Clare College Cambridge. The Magnificat was premièred at the 2000 Spitalfields Winter Festival while the Nunc Dimittis was composed for a BBC broadcast in 2001. This setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis is large in scale and features compelling melodies and harmonies moments of high drama and at the same time sensitive handling of the words. This is Wesley at his most masterful.Composer and Organist Samuel Sebastian Wesley is the grandson of Charles Wesley founder of Methodism and son of composer Samuel Wesley. He composed music almost entirely for the Anglican church and his works are frequently performed there.By most accounts Wesley was a difficult man who in his determination to improve the quality of country cathedral music often won enemies and lost support. After two unhappy appointments as cathedralOrganist Wesley accepted a position at the Leeds Parish Church which had a new building a new Organ and a vicar determined to create a choir for full Choral services. It was in these congenial circumstances that Wesley first presented this significant and influential Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis.

Paperback-Thomas Attwood Walmisley's setting of Magnificat And Nunc Dimittis in B flat for SSAATTBB Choir and Organ.Organist of Trinity College St John's College and Professor of Music at Cambridge simultaneously Walmisley is known today for his Evening Canticles in D minor and a handful of anthems.This fine double Choir setting was written some ten years before the D minor set and is published to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the composer's birth. There are fewer contrasts of texture than in the later setting but the two choirs are used to great effect with the Gloria starting with striding imitation between Soprano and Tenor(later Alto and Bass) over a pedal point in the Organ.

Jack Hawes (1916-2004) was a British composer cellist and pianist. He wrote widely for choir orchestra strings and solo instruments and cited his influences as Walton Ireland Bliss Delius and Debussy. His first setting of the evening canticles the Magnificat And Nunc Dimittis in D was completed in 1955 and dedicated to the church of St Mary-Le-Tower Ipswich where he sang as a boy chorister and first began to study the organ. It is scored for SATB with Organ accompaniment and is firmly in the 20th century Anglican style with plenty of soaring melodic lines and big climatic moments.

Herbert Howells’ Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis (Collegium Regale) for SATB and Organ accompaniment is a vibrant sacred work with beautiful voicings and a wonderful effervescence. This is rich and colourful church music with integrity he has successfully brought together Tudor church music and merged it with modern harmony and counterpoint. It is this best-of-both-world’s feature that makes Howell’s version of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis a pleasing one and it is dedicated to King's College Cambridge.
