Phaedra by German composer Hans Werner Henze is a 'concert opera' in two acts whose first performance was given at the Berlin State Opera in 2007. Phaedra was Henze's penultimateopera and this item presents the vocal score with the entire work lasting around 75 minutes.?The parts are for Mezzo-Soprano Soprano Tenor Countertenor Bass Baritone as well as a mime. Featuring aunique libretto by Christian Lehnert and sound effects by Francesco Antonioni this opera presents the wonderful story of Phaedra filled with drama and fantastic music. This VocalScore?presents the work in German and English language with German lyrics. Phaedra?was co-commissioned and co-produced by Staatsoper Unter den LindenBerlin Berliner Festspiele Thé tre de la Monnaie Brussels Alte Oper Frankfurt and Wiener Festwochen. Par HUMMEL BERTOLD. The overall form of this work in one movement is in seven sections. A slow introduction begins with multiphonics of the saxophone and sounds of cymbals played with a double-bass bow. Vibraphone and marimbaphone provide the chordal foundation for a fanfare-like invocation by the saxophone. The atmosphere of the following Allegro is dominated by an ostinato series of notes taken from the chords of the introduction and played by the marimbaphone - over this, starting from a four-note series, the saxophone develops jazz-influenced figures. The constructional elements are worked into a cadenza-like section, followed by an arioso passage, leading over lightly-pulsating sounds to a final climax with a B-A-C-H (B flat - A - C - B) quotation in the saxophone. Once again, it continues with a cadenza-like section. Slap in the saxophone and stopped notes in the vibraphone and marimbaphone introduce new ideas and sonorities for discussion, the constructional elements are played off against each other in a loose sequence. At the end of this second cadenza, the B-A-C-H (B flat - A - C - B) quotation re-appears in the saxophone. A varied reprise of the first Allegro section leads to a concluding passage, taking up the atmosphere of the introduction, combined however with clear references to the four-note series of the Allegro. Lucio Silla K. 135Dramma per musica in three actsOn 13 December 1769 Leopold Mozart and his son Wolfgang set out on their first tour of Italy. It was not until 28 March 1771 that they finally returned to Salzburg. The trip brought the young composer two commissions for opere serie. In March 1770 he was commissioned to write Mitridate K.87 (74a) for the 1770–71 Carneval season at the Regio Ducal Teatro in Milan. Mozart started work on the opera in Bologna on 29 September 1770 and the première duly took place on the Feast of St. Stephen (26 December) in 1770. The second Lucio Silla (K. 135) again commissioned for the 1771–72 Carneval season inMilan doubtless resulted from the success of Mitridate. News of the commission reached the Mozarts in March 1771 in Verona where they had stopped on their return to Salzburg. (At roughly the same time Wolfgang received an invitation from Vienna to supply a serenata teatrale for the wedding of Archduke Ferdinand the third son of Maria Theresia scheduled to take place in Milan in October 1771. Depuis des siècles, « la lecture à vue » également appelée « déchiffrage » est une épreuve pour les concours de musique. Les compositeurs sont sollicités pour cet exercice et composent un texte court selon un cahier des charges assez précis (minutage, difficulté, modes de jeu instrumental, etc). Depuis la création d'une classe de saxophone confiée à Adolphe Sax en 1857 au Gymnase musical militaire, qui n'est autre qu'une annexe du Conservatoire de Paris, et jusqu'à la nomination de Marcel Mule en 1942, les concours se multiplient partout en France, tant au conservatoire qu'aux orchestres divers et variés, principalement militaires.
Les trois textes anonymes de style purement français (volume 4 de cette série consacrée aux déchiffrages : « andantino » de date inconnue / « morceau à vue » en 1881 / « andantino » en 1890) nous parviennent des Archives Nationales en lien avec le Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. Si ces dates ne correspondent pas à une possible affectation à la classe de saxophone car Adolphe Sax n'était alors plus en service, on pourrait imaginer qu'elles aient été composées pour un concours extérieur.
L'origine de la « lecture à vue » signée par Gabriel Dupont (1878-1914) non datée (volume 2), est également une énigme. Un doute plane sur le fait que ce texte soit bien du compositeur français, même si on en reconnaît la tendresse de cette page délicieuse. En 1922, Guillaume Balay (1871-1943) alors chef de musique de la Garde Républicaine de Paris compose deux « lecture à vue » pour saxophone (alto et ténor) vraisemblablement pour un concours militaire (volume 5) ; rappelons qu'entre 1870 et 1942, le conservatoire de Paris sera dépourvu de classe de saxophone.
La Ville de Reims accueillera deux jeunes compositeurs qui deviendront des personnalités musicales à l'esthétique prononcée ; tout d'abord Georges Migot (1891-1976) qui propose une « lecture à vue » (volume 3) en 1929 pour le concours de l'institut de musique, puis André Jolivet (1905-1974) qui compose son « déchiffrage » en 1938 (volume 1).
Toutes ces courtes pièces ont été étudiées méticuleusement avant de décider de leur redonner vie. Cette publication leur permet à présent de faire partie du patrimoine musical du saxophone classique.

To this day Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) remains one of the most prolific composers for wind instruments despite being a violinist himself. His Petite Gavotte for Alto Saxophone with Piano accompaniment is no exception to the composer's success. During his studies at the Paris Conservatoire Bozza won prizes for Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He then conducted the orchestra of the Opéra-Comique and became Head of the Conservatoire in Valenciennes while remaining a prominent composer. Composed in 1964 Bozza's PetiteGavotte addresses a variety of features of the Alto Saxophone suitable for intermediate saxophonists. As music educationalist Paul Griffiths has written of Bozza's compositions 'his works reveal melodic fluency elegance of structure and a consistently sensitive concern of instrumental capabilities.'
