The edition already published in 1990 by Breitkopf & Hartel has been established internationally as an authoritative edition not least because it is based on parts first used in the 1893 New York premiere. This very revealing source had until then been considered lost.The new edition now published in large orchestral format (25.0 x 32.0 cm), still has in store, however, quite a few further additions and improvements: The layout of the string parts is now more practically oriented; the well-known (ever repeated) problems of page turns in the earlier editions could also finally be solved. The Requiem in B flat major is Johann Michael Haydn's second setting of the liturgical text of the Mass of the dead (another Requiem, MH 599, has since been identified as the work of Father Georg Pasterwiz) and it is also his last work, his Opus ultimum. On commission from Empress Maria Theresia he began the composition in 1805, but due to a serious illness he made only slow progress with the work. Like W. A. Mozart, he could not complete this Requiem. In 1839 Father Gunther Kronecker, Benedictine Father in the monastery of Kremsmunster in Upper Austria, completed the torso in the spirit and style of Haydn. During his student days in Vienna Father Gunther belonged to the circle of friends who were associated with Franz Schubert. Score and part available separately - see item CA.5483800.

The choral cantatas are Reger's most personal and most substantial contribution to one of the principal categories of Protestant church music, and they are only major works in this field by one of the foremost composers of his time. This is true despite the fact that Reger himself does not appear to have considered the cantatas to figure among his principal compositions, as he gave them no opus numbers. In contrast to the three other chorale cantatas of Reger which exist in a definitive form, there is no record of the place or date of the first performance of O wie selig, or indeed of any performance of it during the composer's lifetime. A Programmatic Declaration of BeliefFelix Mendelssohn Bartholdy composed his Reformation Symphony for the celebrations marking the 300th anniversary of the Confessio Augustana, the Protestant declaration of faith. Owing to various and only partially explained reasons, there was no performance in 1830, the year in question; it was only two years later that the composer conducted the premiere of his work, now heavily revised, in Berlin. There was only one more performance in Mendelssohn's lifetime, this one conducted by Julius Rietz in Dusseldorf; the composer had since distanced himself from his opus.Conceived for the concert hall, the symphony formulates its theological references through the integration of various motives. This occurs in the finale, for example, in which Mendelssohn quotes the Luther chorale Ein feste Burg in the flute, from where it builds up to a triumphant principal theme. The strong extra-musical aspect must have been one of the reasons for the composer's later avoidance of this score, especially since Mendelssohn was becoming increasingly skeptical about explicitly programmatic music in the instrumental domain. Next to the Dusseldorf performance material of 1837, two scribal copies have been examined for the first time; they transmit the main stages of the version of 1830.

Pavel Haas was one of Leoš Janácek’s most gifted students. His String Quartet No. 2 “From the Monkey Mountains†is considered to be one of the first high points of his oeuvre.In this work, Haas combined elements of Janácek’s compositional technique with jazz, particularly in the fourth movement’s instrumentation for string quartet and percussion ad libitum. This version was premiered in Brno in 1926; later, the work was revised for string quartet only. The Mazurka in A flat major was written between the Mazurkas, Opp. 17 and 24 (1833) and the Mazurkas, Op. 30 (1835). It differs from those sets, which in their dimensions, texture, harmony (including chromatism), elaborate ornamentation (e.g. in Op.17 No. 4), folk bourdons (Op. 17 No. 1), transferral of the melody to the left-hand part (Op. 24 No. 2) and differentation of compositional technique. The Mazurka in A flat major is not, however, a bridge between these opuses, but an occasionalwork - a gift for a lady written into her album. It has a simple design and uncomplicated texture.
