Originally written for Cello, Ralph Sauer's brilliant arrangement of the Pergolesi Sinfonia (Sonata) for Trombone and Piano (or Harpsichord) has become a standard work in the solo repertoire. This new edition which replaces the previous one comes with some notable changes. Below is Mr. Sauer's description. This new edition of the Pergolesi Sinfonia in F is an update of the original version which was first published 40 years ago (!) and is now permanently out of print. Movements one, two, and three are essentially the same. I have corrected a few errors in the keyboard part and also revised some of the notationâ€â€notably, grace notes are now placed correctly. (The original publisher insisted that they should be placed after barlines, causing confusion as to whether they were to be played on the beat or before the beat.)In the last movement, there are now two places where the keyboard takes over the solo line. In addition to providing much needed rest for the trombonist, it gives a change of color and a chance for the keyboard player to be the soloist for a few measures. The original version of the last movement is also included as an appendix for those who would rather perform the original.Ralph Sauer

The Four Duets, BWV 802-805 are part of a larger collection, the Clavier-ubung III sometimes called the German Organ Mass. They were first published in 1739, mostly likely intended to be performed on the organ, as they have a range from C2 to C6; playable on almost any organ from that era. However, they could have been performed on any keyboard of the time. Musically they are more complex than the Two Part Inventions, and their purpose was most likely to take two-part counterpoint to the max. * Fugue 1 is a double fugue in E minor * Fugue 2 is a fugue in F major written as a da capo aria (ABA) * Fugue 3 in G major is light and dance-like * Fugue 4 in A minor is a fugue in strict counterpoint Ralph Sauer has once again done an extraordinary job of finding great music for our instrument and transcribing it in the most beautiful way possible. Appropriate for advanced performers. Each player has their own part as well as a study score. The 2nd part may be performed on a tenor with f-attachment or a bass trombone.

Originally thought to be composed for two Horns, the Twelve Duos K. 487 have been transcribed for two Euphoniums by Ralph Sauer, retired Principal Trombonist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Mr. Sauer has set them into three sets of keys. 1-4 are in F, 5-8 are in G and 9-12 are in A, giving the performers a nice mix of keys. This also makes three sets of Duos that can be used in recital if desired. The Duos can be performed by moderately advanced players.

Ralph Johnson creates a cool vibe in this approachable, but genuine outing in straight 8th-note fusion style. Layers are added to layers for a calculated build-up to a gritty ensemble punch. Every section and part gets the melody at some point, with solo space for tenor sax. A note-for-note transcription of the recorded solo is provided. Detailed rhythm section parts provide voicings and comping patterns for younger players. Top trumpet note: F# 5.

Gounod's Three Romances Without Words arranged by Ralph Sauer are taken from a group of five similarly named Romances Without Words originally composed for Piano solo between 1861 and 1866. Four of them were later arranged for Violin and Piano. The three movements are titled:1. The Periwinkle (La Pervenche)2. The Brook (Le Ruisseau)3. The Evening (Le Soir)The three movements (all in bass clef) are very lyrical, about 8 minutes in length, and are perfect for intermediate and higher level performers to begin to learn the finer points of phrasing. The highest note is F-flat above the staff.

This work is the third from a collection of five short pieces Beethoven wrote for Flotenuhr or mechanical clock, discovered a number of years after his death. Their true origin was discovered by Professor Albert Kopfermann, a German musician/librarian, who solved the mystery about their instrumentation. This delightful Allegro movement has been transposed into the key of F from G and arranged for moderately advanced performers by Ralph Sauer. Your audience will love this little gem as the clock slows down and stops before the final cadence. It will make a great encore piece.

--The Ten Duos for Cellos of Op. 53 are fertile ground for this new arrangement. --Ralph Sauer has chosen five of the pieces (12 minutes of music) that are suitable for two Trombones. --Both parts have an equally wide range (high D to low C) with liberal use of the valve register. However, alternative octaves are provided for those without an F-attachment.--For advanced performers, the Duos present a technical challenge for both players, are musically rewarding and worthy of recital material.
