,,Was ist dies? Klang? Wort? Schrift? Was liegt ihnen zugrunde? This programmatic piece tells the biblical story of the fall of Jericho. The music paints a vivid picture of the procession of armed men and seven priests marching around the city for seven days, before blowing their trumpets and to the cheers of the crowds watching as the walls came tumbling down. A dazzling opening work for any concert. 'Freischutz' and 'Oberon' are the words that come to the minds of many music-loving people when thinking of the composer Carl Maria von Weber, and perhaps even his brilliant piano work 'Die Aufforderung zum Tanz'. However, there also are four other operas, two symphonies, numerous instrumental concertos, overtures, stage works, and many more.Carl Maria von Weber was also an important conductor and opera manager as well as a brilliant critic, and he even planned a great artist novel parts of which are still extant. His writings on art and even cultural and educational policy, however, were often removed from their context later and interpreted in biased ways. The result was an image of Weber that is still present today, albeit influenced by the zeitgeist of the late 19th century, although this musician died in London in 1826 already. This first comprehensive biography after several decades now presents a vivid image of Weber as contemporary of Beethoven in an epoch of political and social unrest from a present-day perspective. The only biography of current interest Composer, critic, author Weber's time from a present-day perspective.

An Astrological Composition. Astrology is based on the principle that each sort of time has its own quality. In order to determine the quality of a particular moment, an astrologer looks at the position of the planets in the solar sustemat that moment. Each planet has specific types of energies and its location provides unique information for a certain moment on Earth. Thus: its position in the sky tells something about what happens on Earth. In this composition the typesof energies of four planets are musically translated. The four planet were not randomly chosen. There are two pairs, whose influence and energy are opposite. Venus and Mars. Venus represents the feminine principle: harmony, beauty, art, and the ability to make relationships and to keep the peace. Venus connects, and communicates in order to maintain the balance. Mars represent the masculine principle: winning, impulsiveness, enthusiasm, and sexual energy for procreation. He creates war enabling the strongest to triumph. Mars is musically depicted in a stirring march in which enthusiasm characterises the masculine character. Saturn and Jupiter. Saturn represents concentration and withdrawal: the strongnotion of responsibility, seriousness, self-discipline and melancholy. Saturn is the hermit who will conquer his fears and worries in minimal conditions and by self-chastisement. This contemplative character is depicted in the music as if it isalmost standing still, which also reflects the given character of this planet. Jupiter represents growth and expansion: the positive, self-confidence, the good Samaritan, the healer. Jupiter is the philosopher who will make the world a betterplace, sees future possibilities, and searches for eternal values. He is the prophet who sometimes rants and raves his doctrine and proclamations, resulting musically in a whirling and upbeat finale. not looking back at what has been but searchingfor new challenges. Heaven and Earth was commisioned by the Music Lending and Information Centre (MUI), a department of the library for the province of Gelderland in Arnhem, The Netherlands.

Johann Michael Haydn's Requiem in C minor heavily influenced W. A. Mozart's Requiem. In just two weeks Michael Haydn composed his work in December 1771, on the occasion of the death of his employer, Prince Bishop Sigismund Count Schrattenbach, who was beloved among the people and was a great patron of the arts. The work was written under the impression of personal tragedy: Haydn's only child, Aloisia Josepha, died in January 1771, before completing her first year of life. Parts of the Schrattenbach-Requiem were played together with the completed movements from his second, unfinished Requiem during his own furneral service. During the funeral service in Vienna for Joseph Haydn, parts of his younger brother's C-minor Requiem were also performed. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.5032100.

In this lyrical work Jacob de Haan has created an atmospheric piece, which is in many ways similar to an on-stage stage musical production. Dreamy passages alternate with festive and swinging fragments as various aspects of village life, such as thebeauty, the peace and quiet and nature around the village, are portrayed. Why not add a unique twist to your performance by projecting images or films of your town or village onto a screen behind the band.

Cittaslow is an international network of more than 220 towns in 30 countries. Its members are towns where people are still finding themselves reminiscing over the old times; towns that are rich in theatres, squares, cafés, restaurants and spiritual places; towns with untouched landscapes and charming craftsman where people are still able to recognize the slow course of the seasons, and respect their authentic products, true taste as well as their health. The Hymn of Cittaslow, which was commissioned by the organisation itself, is entirely inspired by their commitment to the preservation of the member towns. The tempo is naturally ‘slow', and the themes somehow soundfamiliar. On the one hand, the music emanates peace and quiet, but it also sounds grand in its lyricism, thereby reflecting the beauty of the Cittaslow towns.
