Incontestablement, les deux open tunings qui ont été utilisés le plus couramment dans le pays Blues ont été tuning espagnol, souvent appelé Open G tuning et tuning Vestapol, assez souvent appelés open tuning D. The court organist Antonio de Cabezón (ca. 1510-1566) who was appointed to Queen Isabella’s court chapel in Toledo at the young age of 16 was rightly regarded by his contemporaries as the leading Spanish organist and keyboard player of the 16th century.His hymns and versets are based on short decorated harmonisations of the psalm tones. In Spanish and Vestapol Tunings-The use of open tunings on the guitar to accompany singing is one of the hallmark sounds of the Country Blues. Unquestionably the two open tunings that have been used most commonly in the Country Blues have been Spanish tuning often called Open G tuning and Vestapol tuning quite often called Open D tuning. For this 2-DVD lesson we've chosen the names Spanish and Vestapol to designate these tunings because in practice Spanish tuning was not always tuned exactly to an open G chord and Vestapol tuning was not always tuned to an open D chord.Each one of these tunings represents its own sort of sound universe but what is really interesting to hear is the different approaches that different players took to the same tunings and the different sounds that resulted. In each of these tunings you'll encounter players whose approach was so melody-driven that it ends up sounding almost like slide guitar played without a slide and at the opposite end of the spectrum high concept chordally sophisticated arrangements. Albeniz's?Asturias?has become one of the most important works of the classical Guitar repertoire however it was originally written for for the solo Piano.Despite its misleading title which refers to the northern Spanish region of Asturias and was given to it posthumously by the German publisher Hofmeister this virtuoso piece is pure Andalusian flamenco. 2003 Winner of the International GFA Competition-This Mel Bay DVD featuring 2003 GFA winner Jeremy Jouve was recorded live in September 2009 at Eybens a small town not far from the capital of the French Alps Grenoble where Jeremy was born. Over the past few years Jeremy'sconcert program has become oriented towards 20th century European music. With this particular concert Jeremy has endeavored to illustrate his interest in this music by performing works from four European composers of differentnationalities. The first composer Joaquin Rodrigo is famous the world over for his solo guitar works. Seldom performed they are little-known but deserve to be presented to a wider audience. For some time now Jeremy hasincluded in his repertory Rodrigo's music in homage to the rich and diverse Spanish culture. The Sonata Ommaggio a Boccherini fruit of the prolific collaboration that took place at the turn of the 20th century betweenthe Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo Tedesco and Andrès Segovia is performed here in the recently re-edited version which is much closer to the original manuscript. In the 2nd part of the concert the inspiration changes witha work by Benjamin Britten Nocturnal after John Dowland. The composer was a close friend of Julian Bream and here he offers a truly great musical masterpiece. A true psychodrama he takes us through the various emotionsencountered while sleeping exaltation with a Passacaglia leading to and finishing on John Dowland’s inspirational theme as dawn finally brings the reassuring light of day. Jouve concludes the recital with the Jazz Sonata bythe composer Dusan Bogdanovic who with great spirit explores the musical horizons of Jazz and music from his native Balkans. Finally an allusion to France with one of my Jouve's native country’s greatest popular singers ofthe 20th century Edith Piaf and her L ‘Hymne l’Amour with as a bonus Erik Satie’s first Gnossienne both arranged by Roland Dyens.

Composer scholar and USC professor Nick Strimple has provided a simpleand effective setting for use in worship or as a processional in concert.
