“Being Russian born I have a strong connection to the ballet scores of Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev and Stravinsky, and as a result in theWild Swans, more than in any other work of mine, I allowed myself the freedom to roam through 200 years of musical genres, ranging from Hungarian Operetta through folk music and even including the influences of jazz and popular music,†says Elena Kats-Chernin. The full-length work, which premiered in Sydney in 2003, was written for choreographer Meryl Tankard after the two artists had already worked together for the opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympic Games, and became one of the composer's greatest successes. Many excerpts in various arrangements have a concert life of their own today - including the world-renowned Eliza Aria. Arranged by the composer in 2004 for violin and piano after the original orchestral version, the half-hour suite comprises ten characteristic movements: Green Leaf Prelude, Eliza Aria, Brothers, Wicked Witch (piano solo), Magic Spell Tango, Glow Worms, Darkness of the Forest, Eliza and the Prince, Mute Princess, Transformation.

Drummers Jacky Bourbasquet (founder of the Sonor school network) and Claude Gastaldin (professor at the Geneva Conservatoire) have a ?long and faithful friendship? that goes beyond playing music. Since 1997, the two percussionists have pursued a large-scale educational adventure that earned its fame under the name Drum Session.Offered in a multilingual version (French, English, German, Spanish), the 17th Volume includes everything that brought the series its success: a progressive structure divided into levels, clear method instructions and a range of pieces ? 29 in total ? showcasing a wide variety of styles: jazz, progressive pop, tango and funk. The method, which favours group work with orchestra, is enhanced with a CD (sold separately) in which each piece is recorded without the drums in two versions: one as an etude (slower), the other a tempo. A variety of tracks have been added for a total of 70 minutes of music. ?A very useful tool, well-designed and including enough styles to satisfy nearly everyone? (Batteur magazine). This book must be purchased with the CD accompaniment (AL30675) separately..

Venezuelan trumpet virtuoso Pacho Flores asked Tuomas Turriago to write a piece for their recital in Tampere (Finland) in April 2019. The composer tells: My half-Colombian soul fell in love with the Venezuelan merengue at once when it was introduced to me by Pacho, and it has been an important construction material in my music ever since. It was featured in my children's opera Prinsessa Papupata (2013-15) as well as in my Sonatas for Tuba and Piano (2010) and Alto Saxophone and Piano (2018), just to mention a few works. In Tanguerengue I decided to combine two of my favourite rhythms, tango and merengue. Hence the name Tanguerengue. This is one of my happiest compositions and gives an enormous amount of room for groovy rhythmical play and limitless trumpet virtuosity. The form is one typical of virtuoso works, a slow introduction followed by a fast movement. The career of the composer, pianist and conductor Tuomas Turriago (b. 1979) has been very versatile, the main motivator being a passion for music, regardless of instrument, style or genre. As a pianist, he has focused on chamber music, and has worked as a lecturer in collaborating piano at Tampere Music Academy since 2004. He has been soloist of various Finnish orchestras and has performed at numerous music festivals in Finland and all over Europe, the US, Colombia, Near East and Far East.

This fourth booklet is dedicated to ensemble playing through five trios and three quartets of various styles (tango, ballad, rock, etc.) appropriate for the end of primary school with a few years of experience and the beginning of secondary school. Some pieces are written in a homorhythmic manner and can constitute an introduction to ensemble music, while others are rather polyrhythmic. They can constitute a first contact with the following techniques and effects: staccato, pizzicato, accent, louré, natural harmonic, percussion or crossed strings. This volume is therefore intended for guitarists who already know the notes in first position. Two pieces include a more advanced part with an introduction to playing in 5th position. These are short pieces that do not present technical challenges other than those allowing you to achieve the effects and play expressively. You will find in the scores indications of nuances, timbre, attack and fingerings which constitute suggestions for work and not prescriptions. Teachers and students are therefore invited to make interpretation choices different from those proposed or to try to convincingly render those already written. The pieces were composed or arranged by UQAM music education students as part of a course aimed at equipping musicians for teaching guitar in the school system. Many of them are musicians from different backgrounds (composition, performance, world music, etc.), which explains the creativity found in the pieces. All the pieces have been the subject of an audio recording available on the Productions dâÂÂOz website and on YouTube. Search for àvos guitares, prêt, joue! Clarinet, Violin & Piano Duration: 22' Composed: 1988 Published by: Verdehr Trio Tripartita is a title invented for this score, a piece in three movements for three players. The first movement Elaborations is a sonata-like structure whose ideas evolve out of the harmonic succession heard as the background material of the opening passage. The second and third movements are based on essentially the same scalar and harmonic materials as the first; however, they are somewhat different in their moods and expression, in part because they both incorporate elements derived from popular music idioms of the early part of the twentieth century. The form of the second movement, Dances,is related to the nineteenth century scherzo with two trios; here, the scherzo sections are fast and jazzy, while the more relaxed digressions are, respectively, a ragtime-waltz and a tango. The third movement Blues with Variations follows without pause, and furthermore is linked structurally to the previous movements, since the chord sequence for the blues (and subsequent variations) is the same one employed from the very opening of the work. —William Averitt.
