As a great fan of the Swedish pop rock duo Roxette, the top German arranger Wolfgang Wössner created a catchy pop medley for wind band as an ode to its lead vocalist Marie Fredriksson ? who passed away in December 2019. Hits like ?Joyride?, ?Listen To Your Heart?, ?It Must Have Been Love? and ?The Look? can practically guarantee a good deal of enjoyment and demonstrate that this band is more than deserving of both its international recognition and its place in the Swedish Music Hall of Fame. (Born for You) Suite Sinfónica-So Nata Per Te — or Naci para ti in Spanish — translates as ?I was born for you?. This symphonic suite is inspired by Pepe Domingo a great music enthusiast and lover of life who wanted to commemorate his long and happy marriage to his dear wife Concha. He commissioned Ferrar Ferran to set to music the great bond of their partnership: the couple will be able to close their eyes and relive through the music their most precious memories one by one.So Nata Per Te is a suite of many contrasts. Its contemporary modern flavours are entertaining while the colourful variations are exciting and fascinating. Audience members may recall happy memories in their ownlives listening to the delightful famous tunes that appear throughout the work and although somewhat different from the originals they are easily recognisable.Ferrer Ferran dedicated this work to Pepe Domingo and his wife Concha not only for their great enthusiasm and passion for music but also for their mutual love. So Nata Per Te was premiered on 27 February 2010 at the Auditorio Florida of Paiporta (Spain) by the Banda Primitiva de Paiporta conducted by the composer.

In 1922 Maurice Ravel heard the young Hungarian violin virtuoso and niece of Joseph Joachim, Jelly D'Aranyi, in concert in London. Following the performance, Ravel spent the remainder of the evening requesting D'Aranyi to play numerous gypsy tunes on her violin, probing her on the technical limits of the instrument. The result of this encounter is Ravel's virtuoso classic 'Tzigane?. Written originally for violin and piano or luthéal (a mechanism invented in 1919 that attaches to a piano, producing a sound similar to the rich overtones of the Cimbalon), the premiere took place in London in April 1924. The composer had finished the work only days beforehand. Ravel later orchestrated 'Tzigane? and both versions remain a 'must? for music-lovers and aspiring violinists today. Jelly D'Aranyi performed both versions regularly throughout her long career. This Urtext edition presents the first scholarly-critical edition of Ravel's masterpiece. It is published both in the orchestral version, complete with full score and performance material, as well as in the composer's earlier version for violin and piano. All known sources, including letters, have been drawn on for the new edition - one of the available sources, consulted for the first time, was a copy of 'Tzigane? from the estate of Jelly D'Aranyi, which is today part of a private collection. The version for piano and violin contains, besides the Urtext part, a second violin part as a facsimile with performance instructions by Jelly D'Aranyi. D'Aranyi's alterations and fingering reflect how Ravel must have heard the work in rehearsals and performance and as such are a document of early 20th century performance practice. The cooperation between Ravel and D'Aranyi is comparable to that of Brahms and Joachim working on the Brahms violin concerto.- First scholarly-critical Urtext edition of the work - Presented are both versions: for violin and orchestra and for violin and piano- Includes Jelly D'Aranyi's fingering / Harmonie

This 4-movement suite is based on authentic folktunes from the beautiful southern province in France: the 'Provence'. The composer used an harmonic language respecting the popular characteristics but on the other hand also contains some 'spicy' notes (... just like the wellknown 'Provençal sauce'! ...). The instrumentation is very colourful paying a lot of attention to the different timbres of both brass and wood winds as well as to the percussion section.Every movement has its own character: 'Un Ange a fa la crido' (= An angel brought the creed / credo) is like a bourrée 'Adam e sa Coumpagnou' (= Adam and his companion) is an old love song 'Lou Fustié' (= the carpenter)a fast dance and finally 'Lis Escoubo' (= a whistle tune / popular ballad) is a farandole. In the latter the old tradition of folk musicians who play a whistle with one hand and a drum with the other hand is clearly represented during the first presentations of the one and only theme)Although this piece is not too demanding a well balanced band is necessary to perform it successfully. Thanks to the contrasts and the varying colours it keeps on holding the attention.

Stars on Fire. "To be born under a lucky star", ?To have stars in your eyes?, ?To be someone?s lucky star?, as well as ?To be all fired up?, ?To set the world on fire? and ?To be on fire with love? ? all of these are expressions that inspired Marc Jeanbourquin to compose Stars on Fire. Indeed, combining fire and stars could only produce a piece full of positive energy, of good vibrations, with a sparkling theme that is heard right from the first bars all the way up to its explosive finale. This makes Stars on Fire an ideal piece to open a concert.

Whereas ‘Auld Lang Syne’ may be considered the best-known Scottish song ever yet at the same time it is an obscure one for there are but few people who know the complete text by heart. After the familiar ‘Should auld acquaintance be forgot .....‘ many people take their refuge to lyrics like ‘rum tee dum ta dee ..... lah lah lah ........... for auld lang syne’. Even in Scotland only a handful of persons know the entire text and are able to give a correct rendering of it. The current lyrics have been attributed to the Scottish poet Robert Burns. Burns however he did not write the whole poem : after he had heard an old man sing the centuries-old Scotchballad he wrote it down and added a number of stanzas (1788). Historical research teaches us that the ballad served many purposes both political and religious. Nowadays ‘Auld Lang Syne’ is sung as a Christmas Carol and it is also sung on New Year’s Eve at the turning of the year. Apart from that though the song is also sung on many other occasions – sometimes with different lyrics which usually have Love Friendship and/or Parting as their themes as these go well with the fascinating melody. In this arrangement a low-sounding solo instrument is central. The harmonization in the accompaniment fits in perfectly with the sentiments this song will evoke. For auld lang syne my dear For auld lang syne We’ll take a cup of kindness yet For auld lang syne.

Whilst making no claims to be stylistically authentic this little piece aims to capture the infectious spirit of mariachi a word whose origins are lost in the mists of time but which describes not only the performers (on guitars vihuelas violins trumpets and harp) but also the music itself. Their music speaks of love passion politics life in the country and revolutionary heroes but is unerringly uplifting in style and immediately recognisable as the spirit of Mexico. A chance to add that Spanish flavour to your concerts.
