The Months is a Unison anthem with Piano accompaniment. It takes its lyrics from an old farm labourers' song (Roud 1954) which describes each of the months of the year in turn. This setting celebrates themonths of May and June and is perfect for any Spring festival.Eric Thiman (1900-1975) was a British composer and organist. He taught at the Royal Academy of Music and at the University of London and was organistat the City Temple in London for many years. He wrote over a thousand works of which several hundred were published during his lifetime mostly anthems chorales and chamber works.

Nicholas Nye is a poem for young children written by Walter De La Mere (1873-1956) in 1931. It was to set to music for Unison Voices with Piano accompaniment by Llifon Hughes-Jones in 1942.Dr. Llifon Hughes-Jones (1918-1996) was a British composer conductor and teacher. He studied at the Manchester Music college (now the RNCM) and Trinity College London and later taught music for many years atSalford Grammar school. He wrote many works for the National Eisteddfod competitions in which he also adjudicated. He was one of the few composers who regularly wrote in Welsh and the musical culture of Wales is still indebtedto his contributions.

Their ranges and technical requirements are just right for the younger age groups and their lyrics as in The Snowman are perfectly gauged for their performers. Peter Jenkyns was a 20th century British composer singer and educator who wrote a series of songs for primary-aged children sensitively arranged and with appropriate lyrics. Jenkyns was the headmaster of two primary schools outside of London for whose choirs he composed songs for the St Albans’ Schools Music Festival. He was also a highly-regarded Gilbert andSullivan patter-song singer and he founded a local Gilbert & Sullivan society which is still thriving.

Handel’s Rinaldo was the first Italian opera created specifically for the British stage and the work with which the composer made his spectacular London debut. This achingly beautiful piece has become a popular concert aria. Italian and English lyrics are included.

Tim Knight composed his setting of Magnificat And Nunc Dimittis for a small Choir at a London church however it has since been taken up by many others.This set of evening canticles can be used by upper or unison Voices and is written in a range that makes it accessible and quickly learnable by all Choirs.The enterprising Choral director will of course find ways to share the music amongst upper and lower voices. The pieces are approachable and accessible and have been used in workshops by the RSCM Northern area.
