Roméo et Juliette Op.17 Hol.73: Symphonie dramatique
For his third symphony “Roméo et Juliette” (1839) Berlioz turned to his greatest literary passion, Shakespeare, drawing once again on his ownmost fervent experiences.
Berlioz’s discovery of Shakespeare in 1827 had been overwhelming not only for the dramatic force of the poetry and drama, but also because the leading actress of the company, Harriet Smithson,immediately won his heart. She later became his wife.
He began to think seriously about composing some kind of musical “Romeo and Juliet” but it was not realised until 1839. The symphony is scored fordoublechorus (to represent the two warring families), solo voices as secondary characters, with the lovers themselves represented by the orchestra.

The Richard Wagner Complete Edition presents the composer's entire output for the first time in a reliable form. The conductor Michael Balling, in the early years of the 20th century, attempted to make Wagner's work more accessible for research and performance, but the edition only reached 10 volumes - some with grave shortcomings - and was discontinued after Balling's death in 1925. A further attempt at a complete edition by Otto Strobel was abandoned at the preliminary stages.This third attempt at a complete edition will be the first scholarly, critical edition, based on an evaluation of all the accessible source materials and the latest findings of serious Wagner research. As the edition is also intended for practical performance, the musical text has been kept free of philological insertions - these are listed in the appendices of each volume in the Critical Commentary. Numerous, partly unpublished works - some relatively unknown - and variant versions are published here for the first time. The edition presents authentic texts for Wagner specialists and researchers and critically based performing materials. Contrary to widely held opinions, even the well-known works of Wagner are not necessarily available in reliable editions. The genesis, history and performances directed by Wagner himself are extensively documented so as to present as complete an image as possible of Wagner's compositional intentions. / Conducteur

Conducteur Avec Couverture Rigide. Par TELEMANN GEORG PHILIPP. The volume presents, as a first edition, Telemann's surviving compositions for a number of public occasions in Altona. It contains two festive compositions written for the inauguration of the Akademische Gymnasium in 1744, one piece composed for the centennial of the Absolute and Hereditary Monarchy Act in Denmark (1760), one Latin ode to the King of Denmark for a school festivity in Altona, and an excerpt of two arias - the only surviving part of the music composed for the inauguration of Elias Caspar Reichard as Professor of Eloquence and Poetry at the Akademische Gymnasium (1741). The edition was prepared on the basis of the known sources held at the Brussels Conservatory Library, new manuscripts contained in a rediscovered anthology of the Hamburg State Library including those previously unknown compositions, as well as printed texts which had not been considered to date from the Royal Library in Copenhagen. The Foreword provides information regarding Telemann's tenure in Altona. Also included is a catalogue of all related works.
