(+)
Handel wrote the famous Dixit Dominus with the text of Psalm 109 during his time in Italy in c. 1707. Although he was only 22 years old the work already demonstrates his wide spectrum of compositional abilities which are later fully realized in his operas and oratorios. Central to this work are the six choral movements which with their polyphonic structure are closely related to German choral music of the 17th century. The first Urtext edition BA 4002 based on the Halle Handel Edition was published in 1960. At that time no critical commentary was published so that in cases of doubt the basis on which editorialdecisions were made was not officially recorded. A new complete edition volume (BA 10704/01) due to be published in 2013 will include a detailed foreword providing information on the genesis and the first performance of this work as well as information on the psalm on which this work is based and on performance practice. In addition several facsimiles pages will be included giving a view into the source material. The critical commentary will provide a detailed insight into all the available sources and how they have been passed down. This newly revised Urtext performing edition offers a thorough revision of this frequently-performed work and meets all the requisites of a scholarly-critical edition. Former readings in the old edition regarding a small number of pitches but mostly basso continuo figures and the underlying text have now been able to be amended on the basis of the new findings. In the new edition the work appears in nine movements no longer eight which reflects the composer's intentions. The new performance material is not compatible with the old one.Presented in a revised Urtext editionClear straightforward Piano reduction in the vocal scoreUrtext of the Halle Handel EditionFull score performance material (BA10704) & Vocal score (BA10704-90) available for sale

Par MAHLER GUSTAV. Over the years, the need for a new edition of Mahler's Symphony No. 2 became apparent for several reasons. First, many new sources for this work have become accessible since 1970, when Erwin Ratz completed the first critical edition of this symphony, the most significant being Mahler's personal reference score in which he recorded changes to be made (his last entries were made in September 1910). The second reason was the significant strengthening of the editorial standards of the critical edition in recent years. The music is now computer-generated. Previously, changes to the score could be made only by retouching the film of old engravings. Computerization also ensures a concurrence between the score and performance materials. Editorially, the new edition benefits from expanded texts that describe and assess the source materials, document and explain the editors' decisions and provide detailed information on the work's origin, the history of the published scores, performance practices, etc. Over the past five years, Renare Stark-Voit and Gilbert Kaplan, editors of the new edition of Symphony No. 2, have identified, evaluated and analyzed every significant source, and as a result of their work a substantial number of errors has been corrected./ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur et Orchestre

2 Solo Sopranos, 2 Solo Altos, 3 Solo Tenors, 2 Solo Basses, Mixed Choir and Orchestra. Par MONTEVERDI CLAUDIO. Scholarly-critical Urtext edition orientated towards performance practice. Detailed critical commentary (Eng) in the full score. Movements 10, 13 and 14 are included in their original high clef in the appendix of the full score. These movements are also available with Piano reduction as print-on-demand. Claudio Monteverdi’s “Vespro della Beata Vergine” is without doubt one of the most popular sacred works of the 17th century. Apart from the many available recordings, it is frequently performed in its entirety or in parts. The Urtext edition of this well-known work has unusual origins. It originated from a graduate seminar at the University of North Texas, under thedirection of the Monteverdi specialist Hendrik Schulze. The result is an edition which combines the latest in musicological research specifically with the needs of the performer in mind. This has led, for instance, to a divergent evaluation of the “Lauda Jerusalem” oriented towards performance practice, with numerous additional accidentals and a new interpretation of the melodic variants from the different part books. These new musical and performance practice insights make a modern interpretation of this 400-year-old work possible. Full score & performance material available for sale./ Répertoire / 2 Solo Sopranos/3 Solo Ténors/2 Solo Basses/Orches

Bach composed his oratorio for the Feast of the Ascension in Leipzig in 1735. Though this work has the duration of a cantata, the choice of text places it among the oratorios. It combines the biblical account of the Ascension with chorales and free madrigal poems. As in other works which were composed during this same year (e.g. the 'Christmas Oratorio'), Bach reveals a special fondness for colourful orchestration, with two flutes, two oboes, three trumpets, timpani and strings, creating a splendid Baroque sound with a strikingly festive character. This edition is based on the thoroughly researched musical text from the 'New Bach Edition'.- Lavishly scored oratorio of a festive nature- Based on the 'New Bach Edition'- Bilingual foreword by Andreas Glöckner (Ger/Eng) / Alto

Par PURCELL HENRY. Purcell Dido and Aeneas (Full Score, paperback) The opera ?Dido and Aeneas?, a recount of the well-known story from Book IV of Virgil's Aeneid, has established itself as a favourite with the public. This is due to the skill of composer Henry Purcell and his librettist Nahum Tate, who combined an overriding tragic theme with masterfully inserted comic episodes. Long believed to have been conceived in 1689 for a performance at a ?School for Young Gentlewomen?, scholars have debated the origins of ?Dido? in recent decades, a process hampered by the lack of early musical sources. This edition addresses these challenges and evaluates the earliest sources that reproduce the opera in its surviving form. Surprisingly, these date from the 1770s and 80s, some ninety years after the work was written. Three key manuscripts ? now held at the Bodleian Library in Oxford (UK), at Tatton Park Library which is a National Trust property near Manchester (UK), and at the Wakayama Prefectural Library (Japan) - were all copied from the same original, most likely a handwritten score from 1704 which reappeared in the early 1770s, only to disappear again. This is the first 'Dido' edition based on the Tatton Park manuscript as the main source. It was produced during the second half of the 18th century by Philip Hayes, one of England's most prominent musicians. He was known in musicology for his meticulous copies of Purcell's music, often from the autograph manuscripts. The Bodleian and Wakayama manuscripts are presented in a new light and their role in this edition has been reassessed accordingly. - Urtext edition based for the first time on the Tatton Park manuscript as the main source - Informative Foreword (Eng/Ger) on the genesis, transmission, reception and performance practice - Complete facsimile reproduction of the Chelsea libretto / Date parution : 2023-06-01/ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur Mixte et Orchestre

Légende dramatique en quatre parties. Par BERLIOZ HECTOR. In 1828 Berlioz wrote the 'Huit scènes de Faust'. The work was soon withdrawn but almost twenty years later each of the eight scenes found a place in the Légende dramatique 'La damnation de Faust' dedicated to Franz Liszt. The first part of the 'Damnation' exposes the figure of Faust and has an introductory nature. From the second part onwards, the course of action is largely based on Goethe?s drama. Contrasting characters and dramatic effect are of central importance in understanding Berlioz?s musical thought and his compositional process. Magic and fairy tale, incantations and ghosts, have been the ever-recurring themes ofopera since the Baroque. It is precisely this fantasy in Berlioz's Faust, the ?Opéra de Concert en Quatre acts?, which comes very close to the spirit of Goethe's presentation. Opera in three acts. Par STRAWINSKY IGOR. New edition of Stravinsky?s largest work, his only full-length work for the theatre, and his first major work in English. It also represents the culmination of his neoclassical years, after which he started to rethink his musical language. Inspired by an exhibition in Chicago in 1947 of a series of Hogarth prints, the depiction of the ironic progress of the spendthrift heir of a miser from wealth via debt to madness and death is, in essence, retained in the opera. Auden and Kallman's 'fable' wittily grafts onto Hogarth?s quest narrative aspects of, among other sources, Classical pastoral, the Faust legend, fairy tale, circus, the Bible and opera in many different manifestations. This is brilliantly matched by Stravinsky?s music, which takes as its source the whole of operatic history from Monteverdi to Verdi via Rossini and Donizetti and large doses of Mozart, yet it is neither parody nor pastiche. The Rake?s Progress can be appreciated on many levels, which might explain why it is still one of only a handful of 20th-century operas never to have been out of the repertoire. / Date parution : 2023-10-31/ Répertoire / Solistes, Choeur et Orchestre

Passionskantate. Par HOMILIUS GOTTFRIED AUGUST. He was without argument our greatest church composer, wrote the lexicographer E. L. Gerber a few years after Homilius's death in 1785. As a result of the destruction of the Kreuzkirche during the Seven Years War, the longtime Kreuzkantor, a pupil of Bach, performed his professional musical duties primarily at the Frauenkirche in Dresden. The Passionskantate was well received and widely disseminated during the 18th and 19th centuries: Thanks to its popularity it was published in 1775 by Breitkopf as a full score - a rare honor, accorded to only one other Passion in the 18th century [Graun's 'Tod Jesu']. The text describes the events of the Passion from a very personal pointof view: The story focuses less on the actual events, then upon the feelings of the observers of these events. The subjective nature of the narrative is reflected in a very dramatically marked style of recitative, which presents a charming contrast to the expressive choral writing and the melodically accented arias. With the release of a new music editions and a SACD/CD the Passionskantate can now be 'rediscovered. '/ Répertoire / Solistes SATB, Choeur SATB, 2 Flûtes Traversières,
