This impressive work was composed for the Dutch-Friesian city of Leeuwarden, which was considered the ‘cultural capital’ of Europe, 2018; the composer spent his college years in this city. This festive work for bagpipes, drums and fanfare band is based on the melody of the anthem of the province of Friesland. Proud was written for the music event, Grutsk, which is the Friesian word for proud hence the title. Various bands have performed on five different stages across the town centre. The finale was performed in a concert held at Wilhelminaplein (Wilhelmina Square), which opened with this work. This world premiere was conducted by the composer himself. The bagpipes areoptional, but advisable. As a whole, they give the composition a very special sound. Dit indrukwekkende werk is gecomponeerd in het kader van Leeuwarden als Culturele Hoofdstad van Europa in 2018. In deze stad heeft de componist ooit zijn studententijd doorgebracht. Het feestelijke werk voor doedelzakken, drummers en blaasorkesten is gebaseerd op de melodie van het volkslied van de provincie Friesland. Proud werd geschreven voor het muziekevenement Grutsk. Dit is het Friese woord voor trots vandaar de titel. Op vijf verschillende podia in de binnenstad traden diverse bands op. Afsluiting vormde het concert op het Wilhelminaplein, dat met dit werk werd geopend. Deze wereldpremière werd gedirigeerd door de componist zelf. De doedelzakstemmen zijn optioneel,maar wel wenselijk. Ze geven de gehele compositie een bijzondere klankkleur. Dieses eindrucksvolle Werk wurde für die holländisch-friesische Stadt Leeuwarden geschrieben, die Europäische Kulturhauptstadt 2018 ist. In dieser Stadt verbrachte der Komponist seine Studienjahre. Sein festliches Werk für Dudelsack, Trommler und Blasorchester basiert auf der Hymne der Provinz Friesland. Proud wurde speziell für die Veranstaltung Grutsk“ geschrieben, was auf Friesisch so viel Stolz“ bedeutet und somit den Titel des Stückes erklärt. Auf fünf verschiedenen Bühnen im Stadtzentrum führten es mehrere Blasorchestern auf. Das Finale bildete ein Konzert auf dem Wilhelmina-Platz, das mit Proud eröffnet wurde. Diese Welturaufführung wurde vomKomponisten selbst dirigiert. Der Dudelsack ist optional, jedoch empfehlenswert, da er der Komposition ihren ganz besonderen Klang verleiht. C’est dans cette ville que le compositeur a passé ses années universitaire. Cette œuvre festive pour cornemuses, tambours et fanfare est basée sur la mélodie de l’hymne de la province de la Frise. Les cornemuses sont facultatives, mais recommandées. Ils donnent la composition dans son ensemble un son très particulier.

Dans le cadre du projet “La musique de Kurt Weillâ€, organisé Leeuwarden (Pays-Bas) en 2006, Peter Kleine Schaars a donné une seconde jeunesse plusieurs œuvres que le compositeur allemand avait créées pour le Dreigroschen Orchester (L’Orchestre de quat’sous), un ensemble qu’il avait spécialement formé et dont il avait fixé l’instrumentation pour interprété sa Kleine Dreigroschenmusik (Une petite musique de quat’sous).Pet er Kleine Schaars s’est inspiré des trois périodes qui ont marqué la vie de Kurt Weill (1900-1950) : ses étapes Berlin, Paris et New York. Three Aspects of Kurt Weill (“Trois impressions divertissantes de Kurt Weillâ€) développe un thèmerécurrent exposé dans trois climats musicaux différents qui correspondent aux trois étapes de la vie de Weill.Le premier mouvement est une marche protestataire “aux accents berlinois†qui parodie l’utilisation de la musique sous le fascisme. Les trompettes ont le premier rôle. Le second mouvement chemine sur une valse musette toute parisienne qui fait la part belle au saxophone alto et l’accordéon. Le troisième et dernier mouvement développe le thème dans une trame swing typique du Big Band. Votre formation se métamorphose en un grand orchestre digne de Broadway !

For Cityscapes, the composer used the metropolis of New York, the largest city of the United States, as a source of inspiration. The first movement mirrors the skyline of the ‘Big Apple’. In movement two, Central Park is introduced and in the closing movement of this triptych, the ever-sparkling Manhattan, known for its many skyscrapers, and its financial centre Wall Street, is the focal point. Not only are the busy city traffic and the chaotic hustle and bustle expressed in the music, but also the impressive buildings, including the famous Empire State Building. Manhattan, le pont de Brooklyn et la Statue de la Liberté sont l’essence du thème principal. Les dernières mesures de ce premier mouvement font référence la célèbre Symphonie n° 9 dite « du Nouveau Monde » que le compositeur tchèque Antón Dvorák composa lors d’un séjour New York.Le second mouvement est consacré Central Park, l’immense parc new-yorkais construit au XIXe siècle, etdestiné aux loisirs, au divertissement et la relaxation. Plusieurs b timents célèbres, tels que le Metropolitan Museum of Art, jalonnent Central Park.Le troisième et dernier mouvement de ce triptyque dépeint l’esprit bouillonnant de Manhattan, quartier célèbre pour abriter d’impressionnants gratte-ciel et la Bourse de Wall Street. La musique palpite au rythme du trafic intense et suit le tourbillon d’activité tumultueux. Elle décrit également les immenses buildings comme l'Empire State Building.

This piece was commissioned by the Dutch province of Groningen for the celebrations commemorating the liberation festivities in 1987. In the composition, the dream of a world without war is symbolized. It is the first composition in a series in which Jacob de Haan combines concert music with pop music in a style, which reminds one of film music. Later compositions in which he has reaped much success with the same formula in style are Oregon, La Storia and Utopia.Dit werk componeerde Jacob de Haan in 1987 in opdracht van de provincie Groningen. Aanleiding was de Bevrijdingsdag. De muziek symboliseert de droom van een wereld zonder oorlog. Het is het eerste werk uit een reeks waarin Jacob deHaan amusementsmuziek en serieuze muziek vermengd tot een muziekstijl die aan filmmuziek doet denken.Dieses Werk komponierte Jacob de Haan 1987 im Auftrag der niederländischen Provinz Groningen anlässlich des Befreiungstages. Die Musik symbolisiert den Traum von einer Welt ohne Krieg. Es handelt sich um das erste Werk einer Reihe, in welcher Jacob de Haan Unterhaltungsmusik und ernste Musik zu einer Stilart vermischt, die an Filmmusik erinnert. Free World Fantasy (“Fantaisie du monde libreâ€) symbolise le rêve que nous chérissons tous : celui d’un monde sans guerre et sans haine. Dans cette composition, Jacob de Haan combine le style classique une rythmique récurrente issue de la musique pop pour créer un genre proche de la musique de film.
