Gerard Bunk (1888?1958) was one of the greatest organists of the first half of the 20th century who, besides Reger, was able to develop his own characteristic style. His organ compositions divide into free individual works, character pieces, chorale preludes and six large-scale concert works.

While Darke composed extensively for Choir and Organ he wrote many fewer works for solo Organ. The first of the set St Peter dedicated to Herbert Howells is the best known of the three atmospheric and improvisational and Orchestral in style. The second prelude a fantasia on Darwell’s 148th is a virtuosic piece that retains its musical integrity. The final on a theme by Tallis begins by tranquilly setting out its theme before moving into romantic Orchestral style. Harold E. Darke was an English composer and Organist of international renown. In 1916 he established the Monday lunchtime Organ recitals at St Michael’s Cornhillwhich continue to this day the longest-running such series in the world. His setting of Christina Rosetti’s poem In the Bleak Midwinter created a melody and lilting Organ accompaniment that have never fallen from favour. It is regarded as one of the greatest Christmas carols and is still sung at the service of Nine Lessons and Carols.

These works are popular for service voluntaries.Twentieth century composer and educator George Dyson was a writer of ambitious and critically well-received works that due to their unfashionably accessible late Romantic style were allowed to languish and are now in the process of reassessment and renewed performance. When Reubke died in 1858 at the age of only 24 his achievements included two monumental works (a Piano sonata and an Organ sonata) and a few smaller compositions including a Trio for Organ. This Urtext edition brings together the two Organ works in a new edition: the Organ sonata is also known by the title of the 94th Psalm whose words inspired its content. The Sonata whose style and virtuosity show the influence of Liszt is one of the greatest Organ works of the whole Romantic period. The Trio a musically charming but technically less demanding piece should represent a welcome addition to the teaching repertoire forOrgan. The only original documents remaining for these works are the first editions. In this new edition we have attempted to correct obvious mistakes in the first impression and to offer cautious suggestions for improvements in dubious instances.

4 Interludes-The music of small forms was what the French composer Gabriel Fauré (1845 1924) focused on. In 1874 after many years spent in the 'provinces' the teacher of Camille Saint-Saëns took the position of organist in Paris; later he not only worked as a church musician but also as a teacher. In the summer of 1887 Fauré wrote his Pavane Op. 50 originally intended for a concert providing light entertainment which soon gained wide popularity as an orchestral setting with and without the chorus added by Fauré. The romantic slightly melancholic melody is a catchy tune which thanks to the present arrangement can now also be performed soloistically with piano accompaniment.

Belgian Organist composer Organ reformer and teacher Guy Weitz was born in Verviers and studied in Paris but fled to London in 1914 at the outbreak of war where he lived the rest of his life. A brilliantly accomplished and respected Organist he was personal Organist to the Archbishop of Westminster and for fifty years was the Organist at the Farm Street Church in Mayfair London.By most accounts he was tricky irascible person who wrote demanding post-Romantic music mostly in the French style including two symphonies for Organ. In Paradisum is one of his lesser-known works beginning in C minor with a series of rising motifs to arrive at a tranquil middle interludescored entirely in the bass clef and ending with an untimed bar of pianissimo echo viole and voix celeste figures before returnting to tempo primo and Orchestral textures. It is a piece that requires some application to get to the heart of perhaps not unlike the composer.
