David Bednall's Fanfare-Processional for Organ. Composed 2010. 'A work that reflects a constant revivification of tradition - most notably in the expected treatment of D major tonality (not fully resolved at the end) - this brilliantly effective piece successfully combines the essence of a church procession with elation: the tempo is relatively (but only relatively) slow the musical expression being of a positive character making a modem recessional as if preparing to leave the church before breathing in fresh open air in the concluding section. Bednall's work is extremely well written technically; it would make an exciting effecton any uplifting occasion.' - James Palmer

Hilary Tann's Embertides is a four-movement suite for Organ based on the roughly equal divisions of the church year - Advent Lent Whitsun and Michaelmas - which in turn hark back to earlier secular traditions.Throughout there are short references and hints to plainsong and other hymns relevant to the seasons. Drawing on a wide range of colours and textures the composer creates an evocative and varied suite of pieces perfectly suited for both recital and church performance; as such the work will be welcomed by a wide range of players.

Organ Chorales from the Neumeister Collection-Organ Chorales from the Neumeister CollectionYale University Manuscript 'LM 4708'In 1985 Christoph Wolff working at Yale University discovered a collection of 82 chorales compiled by Johann Gottfried Neumeister (1756-1840) which contained 38 compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach. They reveal great stylistic variety whose forebears stem from the Northern German organ tradition. Already these early works comprising fantasias fugues fughettas and imitative techniques employing motifs from chorale melodies bear witness to Bach?s broad compositional spectrum. This newly published volume is an updated edition of Series IV/9 of the ?New Bach Edition? (NBA) edited by Christoph Wolff and based on this source. In addition to a newly added concordance and corrections to the musical text it also contains a detailed Foreword by Christoph Wolff with further information on the Neumeister Collection and hymnological details. The source of the complete Neumeister Collection has recently been made available on ?Bach digital? shedding light on the manuscript for the very first time.Links to major sources have been provided in collaboration with the Bach Leipzig Archive and its database ?Bach digital?. The desired page of the source can be accessed quickly and conveniently via URLs at http://links.baerenreiter.com. The links stored there are examined for their validity on a regular basis.Any complete scholarly critical edition of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach must incorporate new research findings in the interest of scholars and performers alike. Freely Composed Organ Works-This performing Urtext edition contains ?free? Organ pieces (i.e. not based on a chorale) and chorale partitas from various source traditions. Owing to doubts about their authenticity they did not appear in the New Bach Edition until the end of 2003 (NBA IV/11). Today however scholars view Bach?s authorship of these pieces either as certain (e.g. the valuable Fantasy in C minor BWV 1121) or at least worthy of serious consideration.Bärenreiter therefore decided to issue them in this separate performance edition. This volume comes in addition to the nine volume edition of Bach?s Organ music (BA 5179).

from the Opera 'Tannhauser'-During his time in Weimar (1848 1861) Liszt developed a then entirely new organ style which stands out for both orchestral and pianistic elements. Together with the choirmaster Alexander Wilhelm Gottschalg (1827 1908) from Tiefurt he regularly initiated so-called 'organ conferences'. And it was at the suggestion of Gottschalg that the present arrangement of the Pilgrim's Choir from the opera 'Tannhäuser' was written. With his version for organ Liszt by means of this example laid the foundations for the (not always undisputed) tradition extending to the present day of organ transcriptions from the operas of Wagner. 'Organistic' elements in the Pilgrims' Choir are theclassical chorale theme the solemn 'sacred' atmosphere of the solemn tempo as well as the expressive cantability. The linear intensification from the antiphonal-organ-like piano dolce of the beginning to the 'full organ' can be realized in a convincing manner with an orchestrally conceived three-manual organ with the sensitive use of the swell box and the successive seamless build-up of the crescendo pedal being of particular significance. Important repertoire piece marking the 200th birthday of Richard Wagner in 2013.

Toccata and Lament was composed on commission in 2008 to inaugurate the large new organ in the Christ Church Cathedral Rochester NY USA. This instrument is a detailed reconstruction of a late Baroque organ of 1776 from Vilnius in Lithuania. The point of departure a clash of contrasting eras and musical cultures on two continents already bodes excitement. Martin Herchenröder a composer and professor of music theory has incorporated these contrasts in his roughly eight-minute composition. The result is a musical idiom of rare distinction universal in its musical resources and alternating between tonal triads and extremely dissonant clusters. The heart of the pieceis a dirge which using the Baroque doctrine of the affections relates to Eastern European cultural history in and around Vilnius a history marked by the predations of 20th-Century war.Expressive and effective contemporary organ musicAmalgam of musical traditions from the 18th to 21st CenturyExplanatory foreword by the composer (Ger/Eng)

Freie Orgelwerke - BuxWV 136-153, 158. Par BUXTEHUDE DIETERICH. This edition is the result of Harald Vogel?s many years of practice as an organist and musicologist. The music text is based on a reevaluation of 17 th - and 18 th -century manuscripts containing the free organ and keyboard works by Buxtehude. They originated during a transitional phase between the traditional letter tablature and the staff notation still in use today. Since many works have survived only in transcriptions for staff notation, the editor was confronted with a high error rate, which he carefully analyzes in the ?Einzelanmerkungen?. During the preparation of the edition, the editor always kept sight of the performance practice, but still, the image of the sources is never distorted (e. g. by superfluous rests, beaming not conforming to the sources and the unhistorical adjustment of time signatures) and stays very close to the compositional notation, the letter tablature. The flexible use of three staves and the differentiated distribution of the voices on the staves allow for an approximation in reading conventions of historical notation with its resulting information about hand division. Grouping the free organ repertoire into works with obbligato pedal and works for manuals, this edition is organized in two volumes. The first subvolume (I/1, EB 9304) contains the Preface and the Preludes, whereas the second subvolume (I/2, EB 9305) contains Toccatas, Ostinato works, alternative versions and a comprehensive Critical Commentary (in German only). Volume II (EB 9306) contains Buxtehude?s free organ and keyboard works (manualiter) with the corresponding texts (Preface and Critical Commentary). Until 1971, Harald Vogel worked on a dissertation (with Georg von Dadelsen, Hamburg) on ?Die Fuge um Bach?. Besides the description of the ?inclusion? of triple measures into the C notation and the irregularities of the ?voice mutation? in the polyphonic structures, this also included a discussion about the justification of the ?inner textual criticism?. With the inner textual criticism, deviations in parallel passages are unified. The North German fugue style, reaching a peak in Buxtehude?s work, is characterized by a constant diversity of details in subject and polyphonic progressions. One of the ?indicators of the fantastic style? is the dissolution of the polyphonic structures at the ends of the fugues, evident in Buxtehude?s work. In this edition, a musical text is presented that avoids the uniformity of detail not conforming to the sources. However, there are many examples of transcription and cursory errors, which are analyzed in a methodical systematic manner. About the editor: As an organist, professor, organ expert, and scholar, Harald Vogel has rendered outstanding services to the interpretation of early music and especially to historical performance practice concerning the organ for decades. He has received numerous awards, including an ECHO Klassik as Instrumentalist of the Year (2012), honorary doctorates from Luleå University of Technology (Sweden, 2008) and Oberlin College (USA, 2014), as well as the Buxtehude Prize of the City of Lübeck (2018). Harald Vogel is the author and editor of numerous scholarly publications and editions. Through his lifelong performance practice, he can look back on an extensive discography, including the complete recording of Buxtehude?s organ works, which he recorded in various locations with historical organ instruments of the North German organ building tradition in Scandinavia, North Germany and the Netherlands. / Date parution : 2022-10-12/ Recueil / Orgue

Par GLADSTONE FRANCIS EDWARD. The organ sonatas of Francis Edward Gladstone (1845-1928) are fine examples of the developing English sonata tradition of the late-nineteenth century and early twentieth century. They exemplify a practical approach to the instrument with consistently moderate technical demands while also allowing the player scope for interpretation with the increasing availability of instruments that were conceived with a symphonic tonal palette in mind. As discussed in The Genesis and Development of an English Organ Sonata (2017), the English sonatas had an important pedagogical role jointly inherited from Mendelssohn?s very practical and popular approach to the instrument and the continued European legacy of the lesson-sonata tradition whereby in learning a piece you also learned the instrument and vice versa. / Date parution : 2022-05-31/ Recueil / Orgue

According to Suzuki a world-renowned violinist and teacher the greatest joy an adult can know comes from developing a child's potential so he/she can express all that is harmonious and best in human beings. Each series of books for a particular instrument in the Suzuki Method is considered a Suzuki music school such as the Suzuki Organ School. The student listens to therecordings and work with their Suzuki Organ teacher to develop their potential as a musician and as a person. This Suzuki Book and CD is essential for Suzuki Organ lessons. In certain pieces the authors have placed small phonetic signs above the notes to indicate differentiated non legato playing.
