Cantata for the 15th Sunday after Trinity - BWV 51 - C major. Par BACH JOHANN SEBASTIAN. The original occasion for the composition of Cantata BWV 51 is not known. The unusual festive scoring with trumpet and solo soprano, and the virtuoso demands of these parts seem to indicate a special occasion, such as New Year, a town council election or the birthday of a prominent person. Bach only added the liturgical designation of the 15th Sunday after Trinity to the titlepage of his score later. The text is directed to the praise of God and thanks for the goodness he has shown, combined with a plea for support in the future. The chorale verse “Sei Lob und Preis mit Ehren” is not a typically straightforward four-part setting, but is incorporated into an instrumental trio movement. The Te Deum Laudamus is a single movement Choral work and was Sullivan’s last completed composition. In one movement the composer moves through all the component parts of the mass drawing them together seamlessly and expressing Sullivan’s own deeply felt faith.Composer Arthur Sullivan is known the world over for his operatic collaborations with W S Gilbert including H M S Pinafore and The Pirates of Penzance among many others. But Sullivan was also a composer of many other works among them operas Orchestral works ballets and hymns and church pieces.Among his church works Sullivan is best known for his hymn Onward Christian Soldiers and the theme of that hymn isincorporated in this Te Deum. Sullivan wrote the work on request for a Thanksgiving Service held in St Paul’s Cathedral at the close of the Boer War in South Africa. It received its first performance in 1902 in the presence of King Edward VII and other members of the royal family. That the song of thanksgiving was composed nearly two years before the end of the war perhaps demonstrated Sullivan’s patriotism.

Kantate Zum 12. Sonntag Nach Trinitatis. Par TELEMANN GEORG PHILIPP. This three-movement solo cantata can be performed in several ways. The instruments basically required are the trio sonata ensemble of recorder, oboe and keyboard instrument [+ a continuo melody instrument ad lib. ]. If necessary, as Telemann stated, the two woodwind parts can be placed by violins. The instrumental parts can also be augmented by a body of strings, playing in the ritornello sections of the two arias. This skillful dramatisation, with impressive instrumental sections, such as the independent trio for two flutes and harp as well as the effective choruses with local color, make this “sacred trilogy” a genuine alternative for performance at Christmas time. The score, published in 1855, contained a second singing text in German which had been translated from the French by Peter Cornelius. Rossini's Stabat Mater for SSTB.Following his early departure from the opera stage in 1829 besides chamber music Gioachino Rossini composed only larger scored works of church music. The Stabat Mater is among these. It was composed in two different phases between 1831 and 1841 and received its premiere in Paris in 1842. The text is fashioned as a prayer describing Mary’s pain in the face of the crucified Christ. Time and again the vivid language of this text a Latin poem probably from the 13th century has inspired settings by composers including illustrious names such as Pergolesi Joseph Haydn and Verdi. In 10 movements Rossini unites different formssuch as aria duet quartet and chorus an operaticaria-like style of writing as well as a strict a cappella style resulting in one of the highpoints of this genre.
