Sunrise was commissioned by Backshore Artists Project Inc. on the occasion of Carol Wincenc’s 40th anniversary on the concert stage and underwritten by a generous grant from Linda and Stuart Nelson.The work is dedicated to Carol Wincenc for this very special occasion.It starts slowly with the bass flute leading a dark dream-like section with a theme that is marked rubato seductive. The viola echoes this melody but ties to move it to another key. Eventually the tempo quickens as the harp adds a new theme which the others soon copy.A new section svegliato (awakening) follows where the harp and viola encourage the flute to join them in a sprightly scherzo whichgrows to a climax to herald the sunrise. Here the viola leads with a glowing theme. After the flute has echoed this melody the mood quietens and in a peaceful coda the flute ‘remembers’ the theme from the very opening: it is now bathed in sunlight and is marked luminous.

Par TOURNIER MARCEL. Thème Et Variations by Marcel Tournier is a piece for advanced Harp players. Starting with a main theme of arpeggiated chords, the piece then follows with a number of variations, including chords, arpeggios, glissandos, and numerous nuances and speed variations. The piece starts in Allegro moderato, then evolving to Allegretto, Allegretto Scherzando, sometimes more energetic or quieter. This piece is great to master speed, flexibility and agility as well as the different types of nuances. Marcel Tournier (1879-1951) was a French Harpist and teacher. He studied with Alphonse Hasselmans at the ParisConservatoire and composed numerous pieces for Solo Harp: 'Russian Lullabies', 'Six Christmas', 'Four Preludes' and 'Three images, suite 1, Op. 29', among many others./ Répertoire / Harpe

Two solos in jazz idiom for pedal or non-pedal harp-Two solos in the jazz idiom for Pedal or Non-Pedal Harp by Stewart Green. Stewart Green began writing music for the Piano at an early age. Taking up the Viola and Oboe in his teens he later went to the University College of North Wales (Bangor) where he studied composition with among others William Matthias and Reginald Smith Brindle. Gaining a B. Mus. (hons) degree in 1960 he returned to his old school in Richester to teach class and instrumental music. Four years later he enlisted as oboist to the Band of HM Coldstream Guards which opened many doors including performances of his compositions and arrangements in many National venues on discand broadcast by the BBC on Radios 2 & 3. His years at Bangor had enabled him to fulfil a childhood dream of learning the Harp which he was later able to develop when he left the army and moved with his wife Sue and young family to Lowestoft as a peripatetic woodwind tutor for Suffolk County Music Service. His Flights Of Fancy and Blistering Along! appear on ABRSM and Trinity College Harp examination syllabuses while the Spartan Press publication Saxofun is on Suffolk's own exam syllabus. Since 1999 Stewart has been senior Woodwind Tutor for Suffolk and since 2002 Harp tutor as well! Stewart's recent publication She'll Be Comin' Round The Mountain was written for the North Suffolk String Orchestra as was Haunted House. Spookily this received its first performance at Lowestoft accompanied by a July Thunderstorm!
