All I AskOf You, extrait de la comédie musicale The Phantom of the Opera est un duo interprété par deux personnages majeurs de la comédie musicale, Christine et Raoul. L’intrigue de l’histoire est basée sur le roman de l’écrivain français Gaston Leroux. Le personnage principal (Le Fantôme de l’Opéra) est un être étrange, défiguré et masqué qui vit et hante les sous-sols de l’Opéra de Paris. Son amour obsessionnel pour la jeune cantatrice Christine, le pousse à promouvoir sa carrière à tout prix. Mais quand il s’aperçoit qu’elle est éprise de Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny et ami d’enfance de la cantatrice, la fureur s’empare de lui. Il élabore de nombreux complots aussi terrifiants que dramatiques mais finit par cesser de poursuivre Christine et disparaît à jamais. All I Ask Of You a été repris, à juste titre, par divers grands interprètes dont Barbra Streisand, et de nombreux arrangements en ont été réalisés. Commissioned by the Norwegian Band Federation and Tom Brevik. Composed in 1991. The composer:Elegy and March was one of my first original compositions (no quotations no folk-tunes) and it was one of my earliest attempts to experiment with form. The elegy-part is quite obvious but the march is not quite a march. If the elegy-part tells a sad story then the march should tell a happy story. My problem is that I don¬?t think life is like that. Result: the march collapses! De liefhebbers van de muziek van de Scandinaviër Aagaard-Nilsen kunnen hun hart ophalen bij dit bijzondere werk. In de tweedelige compositie zijn de delen thematisch aan elkaarverwant. De Elegy is een verstild werkje met prachtige klankvelden. Alle instrumenten komen aan bod maar nooit tegelijk. Hoe anders is dat in de mars waarbij ragfijn orkestspel wordt gevraagd. De componist: Elegy and March was een van mijn eerste originele werken (geen citaten geen volksliedjes) en het was een van mijn eerste pogingen om te experimenteren met vorm. De elegie deel is vrij duidelijk maar de mars is niet helemaal een mars. Als het elegie-deel een triest verhaal vertelt dan zou de mars een gelukkig verhaal moeten vertellen. Mijn idee is dat dat in het echte leven ook niet zo is. Resultaat: de mars stort totaal in!Weer iets totaal anders van de Noorse meester!

La jalousie peut déclencher de nombreuses émotions qui vont de la déception, de la peine et du regret à la colère ou à la folie. Toutes ces émotions ont trouvé leur place dans cette composition, inspirée de trois formes d’art différentes : la poésie ( Elegy I ), la peinture ( La Jalousie - Edvard Munch) ; la chanson ( Je ne l’ose dire - Pierre Certon). Par . Here we present 'Griffenfeldt», a folk-dance in the style of a Norwegian «reinlender». This arrangement can be used as the first item in a concert, or after an interval. The musicians can come on stage as they join in. That is why two of the measures are notated 'repeat till ready', here you have to wait until everyone is in place! If everyone is ready from the start, the repetition can be omitted. Be sure to play with a bouncy but singing style, not with short and harsh articulations. Do the trills on the beat, but these can also be omitted if it makes it too difficult. To bring out the folk music style a little extra, you can ask the musicians to play on the 'backbeat', i.e. emphasize the last half of each quarter-note. In addition, the music will really come to life if all 'solo' places are done standing up. The musician Ånon Egeland tells this story: «This song got its name from a party where it all just got a bit too lively: one of the party-goers started shooting into the ceiling with a gun just as this reinlender was being played. The set contains four dances that continue without pause: the individual movements are indicated by the tempo markings. The work came about at the request of Bernard de Nevers at the time the head of publisher Alfred Lengnick and Co. who asked Arnold to write a suite of dances as an English counterpart to Dvo ákâ??s Slavonic Dances and Bartókâ??s Romanian Folk Dances. The première took place in the spring of 1951 played by the London Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Sir Adrian Boult. Following the success of the first set DeNevers asked the composer to write a second one which Arnold completed the next year (Op. 33). from Symphony No. 1 - The Lord of the Rings. Johan de Meij?s first symphony The Lord of the Rings is based on the trilogy of that name by J.R.R. Tolkien. This book has fascinated many millions of readers since its publication in 1955. The symphony consists of five separate movements, each illustrating a personage or an important episode from the book. This transcription for brass band, arranged by the composer has the following movements: I. GANDALF (The Wizard), IV. JOURNEY IN THE DARK (The Mines of Moria and The Bridge of Khazad-Dûm), V. HOBBITS. The symphony was written in the period between March 1984 and December 1987, and had its première in Brussels on 15th March 1988, performed by the The Royal Band of the Belgian Guides under the baton of Norbert Nozy. In 1989, the symphony The Lord of the Rings was awarded a first prize in the Sudler International Wind Band Composition Competition in Chicago, and a year later, the symphony was awarded a grant by the Dutch Composers Fund. In 2001, the orchestral version was premiered by the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra.

Arr. Kazuhiro Morita_Klaas Van Der Woude. Par PORTER COLE. L’auteur-compositeur américain Cole Porter (1891-1964) est initié au piano dès son plus jeune âge. Plus tard, il suit un cursus universitaire à Yale puis à Paris. Sa vie a suscité bien des commentaires. En 1918, il épouse Linda Lee Thomas. Le couple partage sa vie entre Paris, Venise, New York et Hollywood où Cole Porter se consacre à la composition de musiques de films. Le mariage est heureux en dépit de l’homosexualité notoire de Cole Porter. En 1937, il est victime d’un grave accident qui le laisse handicapé à vie. Cole Porter restera meurtri par cette expérience. Son épouse meurt en 1954. Quatre ans plus tard, il est amputé de la jambe droite. Son appétit de vivre et saflamme créatrice s’éteignent. Il meurt en 1964. Cole Porter a composé de superbes chansons et comédies musicales dont certaines sont encore très appréciées de nos jours. Il suffit d’évoquer I’ve Got You Under My Skin ou Every Time We Say Goodbye. Sa musique a été reprise par de nombreux artistes : des crooners et grandes vedettes du jazz telles que Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald et Oscar Peterson aux cantatrices Renée Fleming et Kiri Te Kanawa. Certains artistes pop, notamment U2 ou Tom Waits, ont également fait une incursion dans son riche répertoire.
