Faure wrote Pelleas et Melisande in 1898 originally as incidental music to Maurice Maeterlinck's like-named play. After the premiere and subsequent performances, he set about reworking the musical material into an orchestral suite. The premiere of the originally three-movement suite took place in February 1901 under the baton of Camille Chevillard. In December 1912, the four-movement version of Pelleas et Melisande was finally premiered. The additional movement, the Sicilienne, was taken from the third interlude of the incidental music. This delightful piece would later become one of Faure's most popular compositions and now exists in countless arrangements. / Orchestre

Score and Parts-Charles Ives' Postlude In F for Orchestra. Score and parts. The Postlude in F composed in 1895 is Charles Ives' earliest known work for large Orchestra. It is based on anearlier Organ piece which Ives performed at the Baptist Church in Danbury Conneticut on May 11 1890 (at the age of fifteen; on the cover page of the full score Ives mistakenly gave 1892 for the year of the Organcomposition). The version for Orchestra was probably produced as an orchestration assignment for a class of Horatio Parker Ives' teacher at Yale College. Ives recalled that the 'New Haven Orchestra' - that is the New Haven Symphony Orchestra organised by Parker in 1895- read through the work in 1896. The Postlude in F which was also preperation for work on the First Symphony (its first movement also completed in1895) contains some suprisingly mature and beautiful writing especially in the magical closing pages. - Kenneth D. Full Score. Par FUCHS KENNETH. Kenneth Fuch's Bass Trombone Concerto places the soloist in the role of a musical protagonist, leading the players of the ensemble in a vibrant affirmation of lyrical melody, instrumental color, and orchestral texture. The workemerges from a serene atmosphere with the bass trombonist weaving fragments of melody from which the entire concerto evolves. The work takes the form of a through-composed extended single movement in four sections (Adagietto -Allegro - Allegro poco agitato - Allegro con brio) based upon the simple triadic intervals of the opening melodic fragments. Yet again Jonathan Del Mar has managed to untangle a complex network of surviving sources, some of which have never been taken into account before. Among them are several musical examples in Dvorak?s hand known to have been used in a lecture he held at Columbia University shortly after the premiere given by the New York Philharmonic under the baton of Anton Seidl.
Del Mar thus sheds light, for example, on the frequently debated rhythm of the horn entrance in measure 4 of the opening movement and illuminates Dvorak?s vague instructions on the use of mutes in movement 2./ Répertoire / Orchestre

The Enchanted Forest. Par HENZE HANS WERNER. This music is taken from the second act of my early opera King Stag. In the original, the aria - here rescored for the orchestra alone - is sung by the protagonist (tenor) who yearns to return to the woods, to nature, to the origins of his animal existence.
The rondo is set in a very fast dance tempo (a Tarantella?) and is in three parts: the first one is cheerful and comic, the second one lyrical, almost romantically so, whereas the third one is impetuous and dramatic. The music of both pieces has been considerably rewritten and altered, in harmonic, melodic and rhythmic aspects.

Op. 84. Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. Beethoven?s incidental music op. 84 was written in 1809 for a performance of Goethe?s drama ?Egmont? at the Burgtheater in Vienna. Numerous composers of the day tried their hand at writing music for the dramatic material of Goethe?s tragedy, several in collaboration with the author himself. The overture reflects the themes of the play through its expressive music, and over the last two hundred years it has become one of the most popular works by Beethoven conceived for the stage.
For this new edition, Beethoven specialist Jonathan Del Mar draws on various manuscript sources including a handwritten set of parts which has never been taken into account before. Thus, numerous discrepancies such as missing notes in the flute part or unclear bowing could be clarified for the first time. / Date parution : 2022-04-05/ Répertoire / Orchestre

| The European Anthem
(BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN) Orchestre [Conducteur] Schott
Music from the last movement of the Ninth Symphony. Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. Th...(+)
Music from the last movement of the Ninth Symphony. Par BEETHOVEN LUDWIG VAN. The European Hymn is the hymn not only of the European Union but of Europe in a broader sense. The melody has been taken from the Ninth Symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven from 1823.
In the last movement of this symphony Beethoven set music to the 'Ode to Joy' by Friedrich von Schiller from 1785. This poem sprang from Schiller's idealistic vision of men who become brothers – a vision Beethoven shared with him.
In 1972 the Council of Europe adopted Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy' as its anthem. The well-known conductor Herbert von Karajan was commissioned to arrange three instrumental versions – for solo piano, wind orchestra and symphony orchestra. Without words, in the universal language of music, the anthem is an expression of the idealistic values of freedom, peace and solidarity which Europe stands for.
In 1985 the heads of state and government adopted the hymn as the EU's official anthem. It does not replace the national anthems of the member states, but rather celebrates common values as well as unity in diversity.
The score of this offical anthem is exclusively available from the Schott publishing house./ Répertoire / Orchestre

Based on the Critical Edition- Orchestra material on hire. Par MAHLER GUSTAV. The large-scale form of 'Symphony No. 9' is unusual in a number of ways. It reminds in no way of the ninth symphonies of famous predecessors. Two slow movements, an Andante comodo at the beginning and an Adagio at the end, form the frame for two of the most parodistic and embittered inner movements that Mahler ever wrote - a ländler-waltz combination, and the 'Rondo-Burleske', a bitter, ironic movement that is derisively dedicated 'to my brothers in Apollo'. The most extraordinary part of Mahler's last completed symphony must certainly be the slow finale - a 20-minute long intensively singing movement laden with conflict that includes references to earlier works by Mahler, in slow motion as it were ('Urlicht',' Ablösung im Sommer', the 'Scherzo of Symphony No. 3', 'Der Abschied' from 'Das Lied von der Erde', and 'Oft denk' ich, sie sind nur ausgegangen' from the 'Kindertotenlieder'); it indeed seems that a circle is being closed. While transferring the clarinet part from the already published version for clarinet and piano he made a few subtle changes particularly in m. 201 which has been a bone of contention among clarinettists for over a century. The present scholarly-critical publication is the first Urtext edition of the orchestral version. It draws on every known source and takes into account a previously ignored source that shedsnew light on the piece.First Urtext edition of the orchestral versionFirst scholarly-critical edition of a pioneering work for clarinetTrilingual Foreword (Eng/Fr/Ger) with Critical Commentary (Eng)

'La Mer?, which is an impressionistic work through and through, was composed between 1903-1905. Debussy however refined this work up until at least 1913. These corrections are found in a score which Debussy gave to his wife as a present for her private library in 1913.The new scholarly-critical edition draws on several important sources previously unavailable to musicologists, resulting in an array of new readings and corrections. In addition, there are many changes, a.o. in terms of articulation and dynamics. This new edition includes the famous 'fanfare? in Movement III, clearly marked in small print and brackets. This fanfare was excised in the 1910 reissue of the work, but was reinstated by a number of great conductors who knew Debussy, i.e. Monteux, Münch, Mitropoulos and Ansermet. They felt that the excision was a misunderstanding and that the fanfare was necessary for the structure of the movement. And so, the Bärenreiter edition presents the revival of a performing tradition which is committed to the fanfare.- New Urtext edition with numerous corrections in comparison to other editions- Important sources which were previously inaccessible have been taken into account- Score and orchestral parts in large format (25.5 x 32.5cm)- Score and orchestral parts with an impeccable generous layout- Includes an informative introduction (Eng/Fr/Ger), facsimiles, source descriptions and a Critical Commentary (Eng) / Ensemble A Vent
