Trotz seines lokalen Erfolgs als Musiker, Postbote und Weinliebhaber gelangte sein Ruhm doch nicht weit über die Grenzen seines Heimatdorfes Unterbingen in Tirol hinaus. Er wurde um 1812 geboren und starb 1867 bei einem Aufsehen erregenden Unfall, der irgendetwas mit einem Fondue zu tun hatte. Clarinet Polka ist wohl sein bekanntestes Werk. Doloroso e Contemplativo. Par VAN DER ROOST JAN. Contemplation est le premier mouvement du Clarinet Concerto de Jan Van der Roost. Commandé par Musica Reservata VOF de Belgique, il est dédié au célèbre soliste clarinettiste Eddy Vanoosthuyse. Une introduction orchestrale mystérieuse conduit avec les mélodies ascendantes à l’entrée du soliste. Les idées musicales fragmentaires du début cèdent petit à petit la place à des lignes mélodiques plus longues et l’orchestre entre en dialogueavec le soliste avec une instrumentation délicate et colorée. L’atmosphère mystérieuse du début revient et le soliste conclut l’oeuvre par la même note avec laquelle il l’avait commencé. Cradle Hymn, a Christmas lullaby with imagery of Mary and her infant, was written for the Nidaros Cathedral Girl's Choir and conductor Anita Brevik in 2010, and later arranged for SATB and TTBB chorus. The Lyrics were written by Isaac Watts (1674-1748). This arrangement was written by Christian Aftreth Eriksen in 2021, commissioned by Bunberry High School, Australia. It is scored for large concert band, but is playable for smaller forces through clever cross cuing: Eb clarinet, Contrabass Clarinet, Baritone Saxophone, Contrabassson and Double Bass can all be considered ad lib. All Oboes, Bass Clarinet, Bassoons and all Horns are cross cued. A Soprano Saxophone part is provided to cover the Oboe solos, and should only be used if no Oboes are available. Fiddler on the Roof endures as one of the landmark musicals of all time. Michael Brown's opening production for the field starts with a “flute on the roof ” joined shortly by a solo clarinet. After a quick buildto a climax “Matchmaker” is treated creatively in 4/4 and a driving tempo. With plenty of variety and powerful ensemble scoring this is a perfect way to open a show.

Le compositeur et violoniste tchèque Frantisek Vincenc Kramar dont le nom fut germanisé en Franz Vinzenz Krommer, est né le 27 novembre 1759 à Kamenice en Moravie occidentale et mort le 8 janvier 1831 à Vienne en Autriche. À l’adolescence, il est initié à l’art du violon et à l’orgue par son oncle Anton Matthias Krommer lui-même organiste et chef de choeur. En 1785, il fait un premier séjour à Vienne avant de rejoindre l’orchestre du Comte de Limburg-Stirum dont la résidence se trouve à Simontornya en Hongrie. Il est engagé d’abord en tant que violon solo de l’orchestre puis plus tard en tant que maître de chapelle. Vers 1790, il obtient le poste de chef de choeurà la cathédrale de Pécs. Il quitte cette fonction en 1793 pour entrer au service du Comte Károlyi puis du Prince Antal Grassalkovich. En 1795, suite au décès du prince hongrois, Franz Krommer revient à Vienne. Après une longue période d’infortune, il entre comme Maître de Chapelle au service du Duc Ignaz Fuchs, en 1806. Quatre ans plus tard, il est nommé au poste de directeur musical du Théâtre Royal et Impérial de Vienne (Wiener Hoftheater). En 1818, succédant à Leopold (Johann Anton) Kozeluch, il devient le dernier Maître de musique de chambre et compositeur de la cour des Habsbourg. Il gardera ses fonctions jusqu’à sa mort en 1831. Franz Krommer était l’un des plus illustres compositeurs tchèques de la Vienne impériale vers la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Sa musique était très appréciée de son vivant et certains le considéraient comme le digne héritier de Joseph Haydn. Son style est indéniablement apparenté à ce dernier mais aussi à celui de Mozart. Franz Krommer a composé de nombreuses symphonies, des concertos (essentiellement pour instruments à vent solistes), des duos pour violons, des quatuors à cordes, de la musique de chambre et des oeuvres sacrées. Par DVORAK ANTONIN. This arrangement was written for Norwegian School Band Madlamark Skolekorps to their participation at the Norwegian Championships 2023. The arrangement will work excellent also for a wind ensemble (one player to each part), but the clarinet parts should always be doubled. Euphonium II is optional, but it’s recommended to use also this when there are two players or more on this instrument. Concerning percussion, timpani is the most important part, but it’s recommended to also cover cymbals and mallet percussion. The articulation and dynamics are kept as close as possible to the original version by Dvorak. However, some changes has been made to make it more suitable for a wind instrumentation. The timpani part is identical to the original version except for some places when the trumpet signals are doubled in the timpani part. Staccato notation should not be played short here, but rather separated. At faster passages, the music should be played endurant or legato if possible.
