Picture a day like this is the fourth collaboration between George Benjamin and Martin Crimp, whose acclaimed partnership produced Written on Skin, Lessons in Love and Violence, and Into the Little Hill. The opera – “a kind of Alice in Wonderland, but for adults”, says Crimp – lasts just over an hour and is cast in seven scenes. It is scored for five voices (S-S-MS-CT-Bar) and twenty-two instrumentalists. It premiered at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2023, conducted by the composer. Picture a day like this is a bittersweet fable of grief and renewal. Benjamin and Crimp tell the story of a Woman who has lost her child: if, before nightfall, she meets one truly happy person and cuts a button from their sleeve, her child will live again. In her search she meets a pair of lovers, a Composer and their Assistant, an Artisan, Collector, and, in a beautiful garden, the mysterious Zabelle. This limited edition of the full score is one of only one hundred and fifty, presented in a cloth-bound hard cover. Zadok the priest a accompagné le sacre du nouveau roi– c’était d’ailleurs aussi le cas récemment pour le couronnement de Charles III en 2023. Pour l‘édition Carus des hymnes, disponibles séparément ou en lot, le musicologue, compositeur et flûtiste Alon Schab a analysé les sources d’origine en tenant particulièrement compte des spécificités ayant joué un rôle lors de la création des hymnes. Le chœur de Händel en 1727 était un grand ensemble adapté à la solennité de l’occasion. Il se composait de chanteurs de deux institutions, qui formaient un ensemble à six ou sept voix qu’il fallait rééquilibrer pour les passages à quatre ou cinq voix. L’autographe de Händel montre qu’il a adapté sa composition initialement à quatre ou cinq voix à la situation particulière de la première : la partition est truffée de dédoublements de voix surprenants, d’entrées et de pauses qui devaient par exemple permettre que les quelques ténors ne soient pas couverts par les voix plus nombreuses d’alto et de basse, que les garçons sopranos s’harmonisent avec les chanteurs plus âgés et que le chœur se fonde idéalement avec les instruments dans le cadre cossu de l’abbaye de Westminster. La édition reprend ces ajouts ad hoc et propose une partition qui ressemble étonnamment au style choral familier de Händel, direct et sonore. Op. 89. Par BRAHMS JOHANNES. The Three Fates or Parcae were the goddesses of fate in Greek-Roman mythology and sang on themes of curse and fate. The Parzenlied in Goethe?s verse drama ?Iphigenie auf Tauris? is concerned with these themes and became the model for Johannes Brahms?s setting. Mozart's 'Missa in C major? (K. 220), nicknamed the 'Sparrow Mass? for its frequently recurring characteristic motifs in the violins, has retained a firm place in the choral repertoire to the present day. Together with the cantatas ?Kalanus? and ?Zion? written later, the work constitutes, in Gade?s understanding, a ?kind of trilogy? which centers on different manifestations of the ?longing for the true light?. The libretto of ?The Crusaders? by Carl Andersen is based on motives from Torquato Tasso?s ?Jerusalem Delivered? and spreads these over three sections which themselves are subdivided multiple times: I In the Desert ?
