Music Minus One Violin-This album contains two of the Romantic Era's neglected treasures. Henryk Wieniawski though little known today was a potent figure in the 19th century an almost unparalleled virtuoso violinist and a respected composer. His D minor concerto op. 22 was premiered in St. Petersburg in 1862 and is a Romantic-era treasure. Pablo de Sarasate's 'Zigeunerweisen' ('Gypsy ways') is a wonderful fantasia on Romany themes composed in 1878. Both of these concerti are wonderful and often overlooked. But take our advice and discover them - they will not disappoint! Contains a printed score and a compact disc featuring both concerti in split-channel stereo with the violinist on the rightchannel then again in a stereo accompaniment version minus the solo violin part. Für Violine und Orchester Op. 64-Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto op. 64 is...(+)
Für Violine und Orchester Op. 64-Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto op. 64 is a key work of the 19th century adhering to the classical style of Beethoven while pointing the way to the romantic ethos of Brahms. It has long been known that Mendelssohn performed the work with three soloists in succession: Ferdinand David who worked closely with the composer during its composition and played it at the premi?re; the ‘child prodigy’ Joseph Joachim; and Hubert L?onard a young Belgian virtuoso about whom little is known. As proof sheets for the Violin Concerto in E minor were long considered lost it could be described as somewhat of a sensation when proofs for the soloviolin part resurfaced together with a letter from Mendelssohn to L?onard. The letter informs us that the composer invited L?onard to his home in Frankfurt in order to make his acquaintance. It was already known that Mendelssohn had given proof sheets to David; now we know that he also gave some to L?onard. The recently discovered proofs reveal how L?onard played the concerto with Mendelssohn on that memorable evening in February 1845. Besides containing bowing marks and fingering they also show how L?onard executed shifts of position and where he employed open strings. Furthermore modifications made to dynamic markings and additional legato bowing are shown. It is safe to assume that all of this was done with Mendelssohn’s approval. That the young violinist made a positive impression on the composer is confirmed in the latter’s correspondence following their joint performance. Mendelssohn is full of praise for L?onard’s playing and offers to lend his support in finding employment in Germany. This revised edition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (only the orchestral parts remain unchanged) includes a separate booklet on performance practice. The editor Clive Brown is an acknowledged expert on Romantic performance practice.- New source situation owing to recently rediscovered proofs- Revised Urtext edition- With a separate booklet on performance practice (BA9060) (Eng/Ger)- Full score in the revised early and late (popular) versions (BA9099)

2-CD Set-Performed by Anna Reider violin Accompaniment: Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra Conductor: Nayden Todorov The great composer/virtuoso Henryk Wieniawski wrote this concerto in 1853 at the age of 18. But it reflects an astounding musical maturity. In particular this concerto features a grand theatrical air with plenty of pathos and poetry and magnificent multiple-stopping for the solo instrument. This was a common part of the repertoire until his own second concerto supplanted it. Conventional only in its form it is extremely innovative in its musical and technical materials with a beautiful and heroic main theme. The second movement a short Larghetto is a simple yetexquisite musical prayer demanding exquisite musical tone. The Rondo movement is an energetic movement filled with extremely useful exercises in wrist movement and the martelé stroke. All in all a majestic example of the Romantic concerto and a very valuable learning tool for the advancing player. Here finally in a brand new digital recording is this Romantic-era treasure for your own discovery. Includes an authoritative newly engraved music score printed on high-quality ivory paper; a digital stereo compact disc featuring a complete performance of the concerto with flute and guitar and a second performance minus you the flute soloist; and a second compact disc containing a full-speed version of the complete version as well as a special -20% slow-tempo version of the accompaniment for practice purposes. Par KOSKELIN OLLI. X'Three (2003/2021) by Olli Koskelin is the third piece of a solo cello suite consisting of seven compositions. Each of the seven pieces can be performed individually or detached with other X'-compositions. Different works are yet to be performed chronologically. The X'-works are composed by using the same material viewed from many different angles. Their structure can be seen as a film starting several times from the beginning and from the same settings always looked from a new perspective. In some compositions of the X'-suite seemingly random fragments are joined together organically in other works of the suite. The story, tale, or plot of the music and the gestures and figures of it trans-form in a new context but remain identifiable. Olli Koskelin's (born 16 April 1955) compositional output reflects a wide range of interests. The vast area covered by his style encompasses the neo-impressionism of the piano work Courbures (1989) to the post-expressionist echoes of his Music for String Quartet (1981) as well as the breakneck virtuosity of his clarinet piece Exalte (1985/1991) and the rich romantic textures of his orchestral piece ... like a planet silently breathing... (1993). He often uses the overtone series like the French spectral composers and avoids dramatic culmination. Soft harmonics, tranquil arching melodies, a leisurely rhythmical pulse and a coherence of mood are in evidence in his later works as in Uurre (1997) for chamber ensemble, Miniatures (1997) for string quartet and Circles within for 19 solo strings. / Date parution : 2023-01-24/ Recueil / Violoncelle

Favourtie French Melodies-In creating these dozen arrangements I am unashamedly ...(+)
Favourtie French Melodies-In creating these dozen arrangements I am unashamedly cherry-picking from a long and rich seam of French music. I feel confident that younger players and those relatively new to the cello will enjoy my selection. Forgive my tongue-in-cheek title for the book French Baguettelles (I'm half French so I don't feel too guilty!) for the music herein has more than a hint of garlic about it. Although there are certainly serious overtones to one or two pieces there is a healthy dollop of silliness to lighten the mood. Apart from Sur la Pont d'Avignon which was reportedly written in the 15th century Frère Jacques which was a popular 18th century song and Tambourin which wasin all probability also written in the 18th century (Gossec did however live well into the 19th century) all of the pieces come from composers who lived in the Romantic period. Ravel and Debussy were of course known for their impressionistic colours though for the most part it is the accompaniments which reveal this characteristic most fully. I have endeavoured to keep the piano parts playable by mere mortals conscious of the fact that cello teachers may not possess a virtuosic piano facility but may nevertheless wish to turn their hand to accompanying pupils for concerts festivals exams etc. Many of the pieces were originally written for the piano either in its solo capacity (Ravel's Pavane Pour une Infante Défunte Chabrier's Idylle Satie's Gymnopedie 1 Debussy's La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin) or in duet form (Fauré's Berceuse from 'Dolly Suite'). Three orchestral pieces Bizet's L'Arlésienne Offenbach's Can-Can and Saint-Saëns's Danse Macabre lend a welcome dramatic overtone to the book while Franck's exquisite Panis Angelicus originally conceived as a choral piece rounds off the selection admirably. In the main it is the cello's capacity for lyricism that has steered my choice of music so really open up your sound and enjoy yourself with these ageless melodies.I wish you bonne chance!Baguette: a thin loaf of

Sonata in G Minor for Solo Cello was written in 1924 and scored in four movements: Quasi a Piacere Cantabile Sostenuto Recitativo Liberamente Allegro Con Moto Perpetuo. Apparently inspired bythe seminal Kodaly Sonata for the same instrument it is a challenging piece suitable for any aspiring virtuoso performer. Sir Granville Bantock (1868-1946) was a British composer conductor and educator. Hechannelled his energetic and creative personality into many musical projects championing the works of Jean Sibelius founding the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and composing many splendid classical pieces. Viewed by hiscontemporaries as out-of-date his music is now being appreciated as one of the last great contributions from the English Romantic movement.

Having been the conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra for many years Carl Reinecke was one of the most important figures among musicians in the second half of the 19th century. His three sonatas for Violoncello and Piano are of amazing musical quality which puts them right up with sonatas of Johannes Brahms. It is all the more surprising however that a noteworthy Urtext edition of these works did not exist up until now; cellists often had to fall back on copies of the first editions only a few of which were extant. This gap is now closed by the Wiener Urtext Edition - right in time for the 100th anniversary of the composer's death. Itencompasses all three sonatas in one volume thus adding three masterpieces of Romantic chamber music to the less than comprehensive repertoire of the 19th century for Violoncello and Piano.
