Yellow Green was premiered on July 23rd, 2013 at the Teatro Municipal de Niterói (Rio de Janeiro) by the musicians of the Omega Quartet: Maurício Silva, Deusiel da Cunha de Souza, Diego Abreu and Mateus Falkemback (bass clarinet). Approxima tely 9 minutes in length, the title ' Yellow Green ' is a tribute to the two colours of the Brazilian flag. The introduction gives way to a vast Fugue (marked Vivace) dipped in the colours of swing. The central Adagio floats a dreamy, timeless melody. The brief finale brings together the fugue's thematic material with one last recommendation for the performers: 'Feel jazz'. This invigorating work was recorded for the Chant de Linos label by its dedicatees, the Omega Quartet clarinetists.&rdquo.

Between the Two Rivers was commissioned by Fanfare ‘Prins Hendrik’, from Aalst in the Netherlands. The title derives from the fact that the town of Aalst lies between two tributaries of the River Dommel. The community is a highly religious one, so the famous Luther chorale, Ein’ Feste Burg, was an obvious choice for Philip Sparke to use as the theme for this new work. It takes the form of a theme with four contrasting variations. Variation 1 is a moto perpetuo, variation 2 has a slower march like feel, variation 3 is a sinister slow movement and the final variation is in the form of a lyrical fugue. The title of this work refers to the Tall Ship Race, in which large sailing ships annually appear at various European destinations. The work consists of a slow introduction, which describes the majestic sailing ships; and a faster section (Vivo), which begins in the style of a sea shanty. Now the ship is under full sail, and we hear a reprise of material from the introduction to bring the piece to a close. Tijdens de wereldbekende, jaarlijkse ‘Tall Ship Race’ nemen op verschillende plaatsen in Europa grote zeilschepen het tegen elkaar op. Dit event vormt de inspiratiebron van dit werk, dat in het eerste, langzame deel een majestueuze boot beschrijft. Hierna volgt een snel ‚vivo’ gedeelte waarin alle zeilen worden bijgezet waarna een spectaculair slot - gebaseerd op het beginmateriaal éen einde maakt aan deze tocht.
