Perhaps Jules Mouquet's best known work La Flûte de Pan Op.15 a symphonic that consists of three sonatas. This evocative and moving work is set here for Flute and Piano to replace the original orchestralaccompaniment.

Suite op. 34 for Flute and Piano-The name Widor is so closely associated with music for the Organ that his many compositions for other instruments can easily be overlooked. The Suite for Flute and Piano presumably composed in1877 stands out amongst chamber music works on account of the wealth of expressive and tonal nuances.The late Romantic work is specially tailored to the possibilities of the Flute; and it is no accident that it wasdedicated to the most important French flautist and flute teacher of the time Paul Taffanel who gave its first performance in 1884. From the very beginning the four-movement Suite has been very popular and now belongs to thecore repertoire for Flute and Piano.

Philippe Gaubert (1879-1941) was a distinguished performer on the Flute. It comes as no surprise therefore that his compositions for the instrument are at the forefront of the Flute's repertoire Sonata No. 2 being no exception. After a prominent career as a flautist with the Paris Opéra he was appointed as professor of Flute at the Paris Conservatoire as well as principal conductor of leading orchestras. It was during this time that Gaubert composed including his Sonata No. 2 which premiered in 1925. Addressing many technical features including flourishing semiquaver passages a wide range emotion intervals chromaticism and complex rhythms Sonata No. 2 is a challenging yet riveting and stirring piece for aspiring flautists.

Variations Sur Un Thème De Mozart is a piece composed by Reynaldo Hahn and dedicated to Philippe Gaubert. Composed after a tune by Mozart and scored for the Flute this piece features a main theme and a total of seven variations which follow one another. The Flute score features many trills especially in the Variation 2 some fast rhythms and up to 6 flats on the key for the Variation 4. It would require a good mastery of techniques for these challenging parts. Reynaldo Hahn was a naturalised French composer conductor theatre director and singer. Best known as a composer of songs he also wrote many piecesand melodies for different instruments.

Charles-Marie Widor (1844-1937) was a great organist who did not only focus on Organ composition. From orchestra pieces to chamber music he wrote various different compositions including Suite for Flute and Piano Op. 34 which was composed for Paul Taffanel. This suite a subtle mix of Romanticism and Classicism particularly stands out for its nuances and is composed of four movements: - Moderato - Scherzo - Romance - Final Charles-Marie Widor also composed 10 symphonies for Organ some Operas and some Piano Concerti.

M. A. Reichert (1830-1880) performer composer and teacher is a household name with most flautists. He is known chiefly for his studies which integrate melody and harmony. This makes them more appealing to players and far easier to focus on than more mechanical exercises. The majority of Reichert's other compositions are less well known. Yet they are proof of his extraordinary virtuosity his imagination and his ability to express genuine emotion in his pieces. In order to cater for the rapidly growing interest in 19th-century flute music Schott has decided to re-publish these works for flute and piano.

First performed in 1979 by Robert Winn. The first of the three movements is tense building from the depths of the piano. The middle movement evocative using slow glissandi in the bottom octave of the flute and the last movement is a naughty bi-tonal rondo. Duration: 7 - 8 minutes. Typeset and re-printed in 2010 on the occasion of the composer's 50th birthday. This was the very first work to be published by Spartan Press Music Publishers Limited in a 'low budget' facsimile format over twenty years ago in 1990.

In Fa Op.X N.5 - Rv 442 F.Vi-1 - Tomo 46 --Vivaldi's Concerto in F RV 433 for Flute Strings and Basso Continuo. Called in both cases 'La tempesta di mare ' the work's opening Allegro has a characteristic thumping unison repeated-note theme with the flute soloist trading short lines in imitation with the orchestral violins in the outer sections and warbling maniacally above the ripieno in the central episodes. The opening closes on a big half cadence and then moves into the quiet central Largo with the flute soloist becalmed in the eye of the storm and haunted by memories and ghosts. The closing Presto opens with a powerful unison theme with the flute soloist performing the first long lyrical lines of the workagainst the thrusting violins and basso continuo.

Composer Pierre Camus (1885-1948) is little known today. However his Chanson and Badinerie is a sublime addition to the Flute's repertoire and proves to be an exciting yet challenging piece for performers. Camus' piece for Flute and Piano accompaniment is in two movements. Chanson (Song) is composed in 6/8 meter and reflects French romantic characteristics in its use of lyrical melodies use of the lower register of the Flute and chromaticism. The Badinerie contrasts with this with a faster tempo 2/4 meter chordal Piano accompaniment and scalic semiquaver flourishes. All of theseelements combine in Camus' Chanson and Badinerie to make for an exciting addition to the advanced flautist's repertoire.
