Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf (1739-1799) attire l'attention sur lui même comme un enfant en raison de son talent musical: À l'âge de sept ans il prend des leçons de violon, seulement trois ans plus tard il a été embauché comme violoniste à Vienne et joue des solos de peu. Ses nombreuses compositions et particulièrement sa 'singspiels' (chanson-pièces) ont été très populaires avec le public : comédie de Ditters von Dittersdorf ' Der Apotheker und der Doktor ' surpassa même de Mozart ' Le nozze di Figaro' en popularité contemporaine en 1786. En 1766, Dittersdorf a écrit le Concerto en do majeur tout en étant en service comme leader d'un groupe de musique à Grosswardein, un poste dans la succession de Michael Haydn, il avait accepté. La partie solo a sans doute jouée par le compositeur lui-même à la première représentation. Le concerto est une oeuvre qui est amusant à jouer: A agréable, particulièrement concertante Allegro moderato est suivie par un Andante cantabile ludique et un Presto comme virtuose finale. / Violon Et Orchestre A Cordes

Par DE HAAN JACOB. Sur le monument aux morts du village néerlandais de Wons est gravée une liste de noms en hommage aux soldats tombés lors de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Ce monument a inspiré le titre de cette composition. Mais celle-ci a aussi été écrite pour toutes les personnes qui ont donné à Wons son caractère d’aujourd’hui : un joli village proche du lac d’IJssel où il fait bon vivre. La pièce débute par une introduction festive qui présente le village à l’auditeur. S’ensuit un thème allègre et délicieusement rythmique qui reflète l’ambiance joyeuse, naïve et optimiste de l’avant-guerre. Puis nous entendons un motif sombre et fragmenté, représentant les fusillades ciblant les soldats. Cettepartie se termine par un faisceau de sons dissonants traduisant le caractère tragique de la guerre. Le calme revient avec un passage tranquille en mineur qui évoque à la fois la frustration et l’apaisement. Le tempo du début est repris, cette fois sous la forme d’une marche victorieuse. Puis résonnent les accents premiers de gaieté, d’innocence et d’insouciance, invoquant la célébration de la liberté. Un thème martial et festif en hommage au village nous mène à un pétillant finale. / Niveau : 3 / Répertoire / Fanfare

In only ten years as a professional musician, Jim Van Cleve has made quite a name for himself in bluegrass and acoustic music. He's spent time with Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, saw his debut solo CD nominated for a Grammy and toured all over the world with Mountain Heart. He's become a sought-after Nashville session player and one of the most admired fiddlers in bluegrass. Jim covers many things on these 2 DVDs, but they really break into three sections. After some discussion about early learning experiences, AcuTab's John Lawless leads Jim through a discussion on improvising and building solos on a number of popular bluegrass standards. Two songs, Banks of The Ohio and Pretty Polly, are each played and demonstrated in 3 different keys. Before demonstrating the tunes, Jim breaks down the scale and common positions for each key in turn. He shows where to find the melody, and where adjacent double stops are located, as well as licks and phrases that suit each song. Attention is given to both playing a melody-based solo and what a fiddle can do to assist the band sound in accompaniment. He also carefully teaches four songs he has recorded - three of his own (Nature of the Beast, Devil's Courthouse and #6 Barn Dance) plus Bill Monroe's classic Wheel Hoss.
