2 Pieces For Cello and Piano-Two pieces for cello and piano written by Mats Lidström as a young man. Dedicated to his father and to the memory of his cello teacher the pieces come with one ambition: to write as melodically beautiful as possible.

'I arrived in New York City from Sweden on a warm September evening to take up my studies with Leonard Rose at the Juilliard School of the Performing Arts. I was 18 years old. The first week I had fish for supper every day thinking mother would approve. During that time leading up to my first lesson I composed the suite presented here as a gift to my new teacher.'The 2004 revision meant some minor changes to the first five movements and the scrapping of the sixth. The sixth the final movement of the suite was initially a prelude and fugue a result of the theory lessons with composer Lawrence Widdoes - and in C minor at that. I decided to replace it with theAve Maria music written a month after September 11 2001. As a citizen of this world I was desperate to counter inhumanity with positive creativity. The movement was written for the acoustics of a church.

(Nonnus of Panopolis Dionysiaca book 16. Greek poet 5th cent.AD)Debussy's la fl te de Pan (better known as Syrinx) was originally written for flute. The characteristics of the cello capture and unfold what is distinctly French about this piece.

Ballroom Dances (ABRSM grade level 1 - 6) is a new exciting work for cello and piano from performer and composer Mats Lidström.As with Traffic Spooky Pieces and Hotel Suite Ballroom Dances makes a point of introducing less experienced players to the air of a professional recital through a corresponding piano part (full throttle!). There is passion and lyricism wide dynamic range and swift musical contrasts. for Solo Cello-Aphrodite's Rock - a mighty sea stack outside Paphos Cyprus - is the birthplace of the Goddess of Love. A local myth tells that the person who swims around it will be blessed with eternal beauty. If that fails this music offers an alternative: the sea is present in the middle section while the legend itself is mused over from the very first note.Petra tou Romiou (Rock of the Greek) also known as Aphrodite's Rock the birthplace of the Goddess of Love - is situated on the seaside near Palaepaphos. capital of the island during Greco-Roman times. Palaepaphos (Old Paphos) was visited by Paul the Apostle during the 1st century AD and is now on the UNESCO list ofcultural and natural treasures of the world's heritage. Aphrodite's Rock was written in Nicosia Cyprus in late June 2013. From having come upon so much beauty during my visit such as the jaw-dropping mosaics of Paphos accompanied by the transitional ever-changing sea music was the natural result.The first and third part of my piece reflects upon the seducing legend of the birthplace while the middle section is an attempt to picture the surrounding sea. From Cyprus I was flown back to England for the wedding of Sian and Steve Newman on June 29 2013. This piece is their wedding gift.
