Elle a été étant écrite pour Mstislav Rostrpovich d'inclure dans sa première saison avec le National Symphony Orchestra de Washington D.C, en 1977. Le mauscript brise d'après 118 barres, près de la fin de la cinquième une sections dix prévu. Le fragment équivaut donc au plus de la moitié du travail, mais il est entièrement composée. Deux autres bars ont été trouvés esquissé dans l'un des ordinateurs portables de Britten et ont été ajoutées à ce score en 1985, quand elle a été révisée par le compositeur, Colin Matthews, avant de son premier spectacle./ Répertoire / Chorale

The American premiere in October of 1998 was performed separately as a concert work withthe University of Miami chorus and orchestra conducted by Thom Sleeper and it was subsequently recorded for Albany Records.

Brahms's deeply moving Alto Rhapsody is one of the glories of the choral repertoire. Though it was written as a wedding song for the daughter of his friend Clara Schumann, the work clearly seems a deeply personal one for Brahms. Perhaps, as some have suggested, a melancholy reflection on his own solitary life. This great concert favorite is based on portions of the text of Goethe's Harzreise im Winter (Winter Journey in the Harz Mountains), and set for alto solo, men's chorus, and orchestra. In addition to the Alto Rhapsody, this volume contains three other major Brahms choral works: the Song of Destiny, a setting of a poem by Hölderlin: Nänie, a dirge for Brahms's friend Anselm Feuerbach, set to a text by Schiller: and Song of the Fates, set to passages from Act IV of Goethe's Iphigenie auf Tauris. All four works have been reprinted from the authoritative edition published by Breitkopf and Härtel, Leipzig.

Op. 147 - Harmony Parts-Diabelliâ??s church music has unjustly largely fallen into oblivion. In his 'Pastoral Mass in F' the Austrian composer of the Biedermeier period succeeded in achieving a balance between artistic aspirations and a form suitable for practical performance. With a duration of about 30 minutes the work is of easy to medium difficulty and is therefore extremely suitable for amateur choirs with orchestra. The 'Pastoral Mass' is suitable for performance both at Christmas time and beyond.
