With her trademark finesse and sensitivity the composer tells the story of a little girl dealing with the death of a person she’d cherished above all: her grandfather. Rolling Down To Rio first appeared in The Beginning of the Armadillos one of the Just So stories by Rudyard Kipling. It was set to music in 1903 by Edward German arranged for unison or solo Voice with Piano accompaniment. The arrangement has remained highly popular ever since.Edward German was an English musician and composer of Welsh descent best remembered for his extensive output of incidental music for the stage and as a successor to Arthur Sullivan in the field of English comic opera. While French influences are clearly apparent in his music all in all his style is usually considered to be‘quintessentially English’.

O This Night Is Born Noel a french carol of the 17th century arranged with English words by Gerald Cockshott. Scored for unison voices and piano.

Maurice Duruflè (1902-1986) dedicated this hauntingly beautiful setting of the Lord's Prayer to his wife. Simple and direct it is almost chantlike in its melodic purity. Originally written for unison voices (or solo voice)with organ accompaniment Duruflé later scored it for four-part chorus. These new editions include an English text for singing the original French text and a keyboard reduction of the unaccompanied version.

Praise has much in it to interest and challenge the amateur singer in particular the variety of phrase lengths and the elongation of the theme phrase in each of the repetitions.Composer and educator George Dyson was a writer of ambitious and critically well-received works that were allowed to languish and are now in the process of reassessment and renewed performance. Praise and the unison songs like it have kept his musical memory alive among the generations who sang his songs as part of their school music curriculum.
