Inspired by the music of Frank Erickson Chris Sharp offers this overture with a renaissance quality to it. The melody moves effectively between the different choirs as the piece develops. In Native American culture the vision quest is a rite of passage for adolescents signaling their entry into adulthood. This powerful rite is captured in a bold new work by Chris Sharp. After a forceful introduction a contemplative lyrical passage signifies the beginning of this spiritual journey. A bright 3/4 section then conveys thoughts of great bravery and leadership as the piece builds to its powerful conclusion.

Dafydd (David) Owain was a famous Welsh bard who lived on a farm called Gareg Wen (The White Rock) in Eifionydd, Carnarnvonshire, North Wales. Tradition has it that on his deathbed he called for his harp and composed this lovely melody, requesting that it be played at his funeral. Accordingly, it was later played at the parish church of Ynys-Cynhaiarn. Lyrics were later added by Ceiriog Hughes, which describe the melody's inspiration. Par YAGISAWA SATOSHI. Cette oeuvre a été composée en commande de l’Aikodai Meiden High School Symphonic Band à l’occasion de son 50e concert annuel, ce qui a inspiré le titre. L’amitié profonde entre Hiroki Ito – le chef d’orchestre – et Satoshi Yagisawa est à l’origine decette fanfare jubilatoire d’une durée approximative de deux minutes, pièce d’ouverture idéale pour votre concert. La composition originale était pour un orchestre extrêmement grand de 200 musiciens, comprenant aussi une banda séparée, uneharpe et d’autres instruments spéciaux. Whilst making no claims to be stylistically authentic, this little piece aims to capture the infectious spirit of mariachi, a word whose origins are lost in the mists of time, but which describes not only the performers (on guitars, vihuelas, violins, trumpets and harp) but also the music itself. Their music speaks of love, passion, politics, life in the country and revolutionary heroes but is unerringly uplifting in style and immediately recognisable as the spirit of Mexico. Par BLANKEN JOHN. Liberty est une marche contrastante de forme traditionnelle. La première partie développe un thème pétillant qui se fond dans un solo de basse solidement charpenté. Le trio, plus lyrique, expose quelques nouvelles idées formant un contraste marqué avec le passage d’ouverture. Symphony No. 3. Par SPARKE PHILIP. La troisième symphonie de Philip Sparke, A Colour Symphony, fut commandée par le Sinfonisches Blasorchester Wehdel, dont le chef d’orchestre est Thomas Ratzek. Dans chacun des cinq mouvements ( white, yellow, blue, red and green ), le compositeur établit un rapport entre l’instrumentation et les éléments harmoniques, et la couleur réelle attribuée au mouvement spécifique. Pour créer autant de richesse que possible, Philip Sparke utilise une instrumentation variée qui comprendles bois de registre grave, harpe, piano et violoncelles.
