This work is based on the biblical story of the martyrdom of Saint Stephen traditionally regarded as the first Christian martyr as recounted in the Acts of the Apostles. Stephen was a member of the early Church inJerusalem. He was an inspired and charismatic preacher but he aroused great hostility among the members of the various synagogues by his teachings and he was accused of blasphemy. At his trial he looked up to heaven and declaredthat he saw God in his Glory with Jesus standing at his right hand. This so enraged the authorities that he was flung from the city and stoned to death. As he died he prayed that the Lord Jesus would receive his spirit and thathis killers would be forgiven. In this setting the choir recounts the story in Latin whilst the solo horn music depicts the violence of the stoning. The work ends with a quotation from Chopin's Ballade No. 2 in F Op.38. Commissioned by the Metropolitan and Cathedral Chapter of St. Stephen's Cathedral Vienna. First performed on 16th March 2015 at St Stephen's Cathedral Vienna by the Cathedral Choir conducted by Markus Landerer.

Before me, careless lying is a fine example of the contrapuntal art of Herbert Howells (1892–1983), inspired by the work of the great English composers of the Renaissance period, those of the madrigal school in particular, but in its passionate sensibility essentially twentieth century. The composer wrote this partsong on Christmas Day 1918, and dedicated it to his friend the organist Dr R. R. Terry, Director of Music at Westminster Cathedral, and chairman of the Tudor Church Music committee. The words are by the poet and biographer Austin Dobson, whose Collected Poems was published in 1897. Perhaps as a token of the composer’s regard for Terry’s pioneering work infurthering the appreciation and understanding of sixteenth-century church music, Before me, careless lying was originally published with the alto and tenor parts notated in traditional clefs. It is here reissued with clefs in modern forms of treble and transposed treble respectively, and with a keyboard transcription of the vocal parts which is intended for use in rehearsal./ Feuillet / SATB

With versions sung by Charlotte Church, Katherine Jenkins and the Choir of King's College, Cambridge, Suo Gân is one of the most recognisable and well-loved tunes in the Welsh and English repertoire. Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis-Nico Muhly's Second Service (Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis) sheet music arranged for SATB (Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Bass) Chorus and Organ accompaniment. This piece was originally commissioned by the Choir of Christ Church Christiana Hundred from Delaware USA and was first performed on 19th October 2014 by them. After its various premieres internationally the Second Service was met with resounding warm reviews praising its percussive qualities beautiful melodies and dynamic rhythms. The work is a pleasure to sing especially when beneficial acoustics complement the warmth of the vocalharmonies. Nico Muhly is a composer of many talents lending his skills to a number of diverse genres including Orchestra Choral and even Film Music. This work is arranged for SATB Chorus and Organ accompaniment and lasts around 14 minutes. With this composition Muhly has set the traditional Magnificat also known as the 'Song of Mary' joining the long list of composers who have set this work such as Mozart Tchaikovsky and Schubert. Next comes the Nunc Dimittis similarly a canticle found in the gospel of Luke. The Second Service (Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis) is presented here in an accurate transcription for SATB Chorus and Organ. Audiences will love this innovative and contemporary setting of such traditional words.
