The musical appeal of the Blues, as they began to be heard in the early twentieth century, was so infectious that musicians with open minds and ears were drawn to it as soon as they heard it. And that appeal crossed the racial and ethnic divides that characterized American society. So it was, that even before African American guitarists were recorded playing fingerstyle blues guitar, their white neighbors had already begun learning the music?listening to, watching, and imitating the musicians whose music they so admired. And what these white musicians ended up expressing in their own playing and singing was not simply imitation, but their own reconfiguration of what their models did, played in accordance with their own senses of rhythm, phrasing and how to sing the music.In Hillbilly Fingerstyle Blues Guitar, author John Miller offers transcriptions, in tablature and standard notation, of twenty-eight pieces by these white fingerstyle blues players, taken from recordings made in the period 1926?1970. Some of the featured musicians in the book, like Sam McGee, Frank Hutchison, Maybelle Carter, Hobart Smith, and Roscoe Holcomb are pretty well known, but the tunes by more obscure players like Debs Mays, Lake Howard, or Lester McFarland certainly don?t suffer by comparison, and in many instances are spectacular. The pieces have been chosen for variety, too?you?ll encounter pieces played in C, E, and A in standard tuning, as well as songs in Open G, Open D tunings and an exotic offshoot of Open G tuning. The Vocal score for John Tavener's beautiful work Lament For Jerusalem arranged for Soprano Countertenor and SATB Chorus with a Piano Accompaniment. This score can be used for both the 'Original'and 'Jerusalem' versions of the work. The composition was commissioned by Father Arthur E. Bridge OAM for Ars Musica Australis and was first written in 2002. The 'Jerusalem' version was arranged for theChoir of London in 2004. Tavener himself calls the work 'a mystical love-song' that reflects the 'mystical sacred and sublime nature of the texts'.  Lament For Jerusalem isdivided into seven stanzas each of which contain Christic Judaic and Islamic inspirations making this work truly innovative and interesting. The piece is around 45 minutes long and it is recommended to be performed in a spacein which there are generous acoustics that will allow each individual voice as well as the collective whole to 'breathe' and dissolve into the air.  The work is a wonderful one receiving greatcritical acclaim upon its premiere and impressing audiences the world over for its soaring Soprano melodies and its left-field Middle-Eastern harmonies. The composition is one in a long line of Tavener pieces thatimmediately silences audiences and captivates their attention throughout.  Any performance of Lament For Jerusalem is guaranteed to be a special event and one that audiences willremember for a long time.

Les treize Nocturnes représentent le groupe le plus important de pièces de caractère pour piano dans l'oeuvre de Fauré. Si le terme 'nocturne' renvoie traditionnellement à John Field et Frédéric Chopin, le compositeur français transforme le genre à sa manière: pas de scènes nocturnes rêveuses mais des compositions scintillantes, minutieusement élaborées, oscillant entre lyrisme élégant et dramatisme passionné. C'est en 1894, durant un séjour estival dans la maison de ses beaux-parents, que Fauré écrit son sixième Nocturne, de loin le plus marquant et le plus connu de la série avec ses forts contrastes de tempo, de métrique et d'harmonie. Chopin a l'âme romantique et la musique de ses Nocturnes en exprime les états. L'ambiance crépusculaire est en effet propice aux tendres épanchements, à la mélancolie, aux improvisations poétiques et musicales, comme le dialogue de la Muse et du Poète dans la Nuit de Mai d'Alfred de Musset.

Tout en conservant une forme classique (forme Lied A.B.A. généralement), Chopin s'éloigne de la romance et sublimise le Nocturne par son inspiration et son sens pianistique: la mélodie, influencée par le bel canto italien est plus ample et se développe en variations ornementales expressives, souvent chromatiques - l'harmonie est plus raffinée et plus audacieuse par ses dissonances et les dessins d'accompagnement de la basse en forme d'arpèges ou d'accords brisés sont plus ingénieux.

Les Nocturnes de Chopin ont beaucoup contribué à sa célébrité et, malgré les difficultés techniques de certains, ils apparaissent comme une bonne introduction à la connaissance et à l'étude de ses autres oeuvres.
