Beethoven's four-movement Sonata in A-flat major op. 26 belongs to his most popular works. It is dedicated to Prince Lichnowsky, one of his most generous patrons and the dedicatee of, for example, the Grande Sonate pathétique op. 13 and Symphony No. 2 op. 35. The work's initial drafts date from 1800-01 - it was first published in March 1802. This demanding sonata is highly varied in its form: it begins with a set of variations and contains the famous Marcia funebre sulla morte d'un Eroe as its third movement, earning it the nickname 'Sonata with the Funeral March?. The identity of the title's eroe (hero) remains unknown to the present day. The march was performed at Beethoven's funeral on 29 March 1827 in an arrangement for orchestra.For this Bärenreiter edition Jonathan Del Mar, possibly as one of the first editors of a modern edition, consulted the composer's autograph in the original. This enabled him to decipher details of Beethoven's handwriting in particular with regard to the exact notation of doubtful slurs. Par TOMASI HENRI. French composer and conductor, Henri Tomasi (1901-1971) composed Le Petit Chevrier Corse in 1952. As with his other woodwind compositions, Le Petit Chevrier Corse was well-received by audiences. Tomasi was born in Marseille, but his Father and Mother were originally from La Casinca in Corsica. Despite being pressured in to musical studies by his parents, Tomasi dreamed of becoming a sailor, and during the summer, he stayed with his Grandmother in Corsica where he learnt traditional Corsican songs. However, in 1921, he began his studies at the Paris Conservatoireand went on to become a high profile composer and conductor. Tomasi did not forget his Corsican routes, often incorporating themes of the songs he had learnt during the summers with his Grandmother. This is apparent in Le Petit Chevrier Corse for Flute and Piano or Harp accompaniment. At first glance, this work may be eclipsed by its older sister in B major, KV 333. But Mozart's Sonata KV 570 is by the far the more popular work, especially in piano lessons. This may be due to its more moderate technical demands, on the one hand, and to the large variety of musical facets of Mozart's piano style with which this sonata comes up in relatively manageable dimensions, on the other hand. Zhou Long's King Chu Doffs His Armour for Pipa and full Orchestra.Based on the popular Chinese story 'King Chu Doffs His Armour' this concerto is influenced by both Western and Eastern traditions. It is constructed around a classical Chinese solo Pipa work (of the same name) and retains the structure of the traditional manuscript. The musical influences are distinctly Chinese but Zhou Long adds an introduction cadenza and coda in keeping with the Western concerto tradition.
