Duets For Two Acoustic Guitars-The Christmas season has always been special to me. It is a season that has crystallized the hopes aspirations and faith of millions of people through the centuries. The amount of music written for Christmas is monumental.This book contains 14 scores from my Christmas Guitar Portraits recording. I selected various genres dear to me.First there are selections from the early American sacred song tradition. The Babe of Bethlehem Cherry Tree Carol A Star in the East The Shepherd's Star A Virgin Unspotted and I Wonder As I Wander all are from this rich heritage.I also picked a number of carols from theOld English genre. Away In The Manger Green Grow'th the Holly and What Child is This are included.Then there are the Christmas favourites. In the Bleak Mid-winter and a medley ofBaloo Lammy; The First Noel and Silent Night make any Christmas complete. Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence is one of my favourite Advent hymns. Gaudete Christus est natus is arousing carol dating back many centuries.Finally I included two originals. Lullay My Liking is an ancient carol text. Many composers over the centuries have written melodies to these lyrics most notably GustavHolst. I could not resist the temptation so the melody here is original. Finally Christmas Prayer is a new composition. I have always wanted to compose and arrange music designed to bring the Plectrum or Flatpick Guitarto the concert stage. These arrangements were written with that in mind.

This collection of the work of the Maltese composer Gordon Mizzi for solo guitar is being made available to the public for the first time. Saints and Fireworks The Music of Gordon Mizzi Volume Two is the second of two albumsof Gordon Mizzi's music which are available from Mel Bay Publications. This album takes its title from the newly released CD Gordon Mizzi Saints and Fireworks that has been recorded by Carlos Bonell one of today's mostcelebrated guitarists and which is available from Spearhead Music. This album contains a diverse collection of original works as well as transcriptions of Renaissance and Maltese folk music by Gordon Mizzi. The Branles de Malte byJean d'Estrée were originally composed by the French Knights of St. John in Malta in 1551 for the Dauphin of France. Gordon Mizzi has made guitar transcriptions of these five dances and this is the first time that they arebeing published. The Branles de Malte by Adrian Le Roy are also included. There are a number of original compositions. Saints and Fireworks a piece in two movements vividly represents Malta's village festas. Island Scenes aresix musical portraits of towns and villages dotting the landscape of Malta. They include Valletta- Barrakka Gardens San Giljan-After the Feast Mdina- Città Notabile the dreamy Comino-The Blue Lagoon Sliema- The Tower and the pulsatingly brash Paceville -Sin City. Three Love Poems : Hula Lahaina and Hana are influences from Hawaii. There are also two cradle songs Child Don't Cry and Ninna Nanna as well as folk inspired melodies such as NightCrossing and il- Maltija. The guitarist will find a veritable pot pourri of scents and sounds in this album.

The tango is the king of the Latin dances. The captivating rhythms and seductive melodies of the tango have captured the imaginations of musicians and composers for many years. The tango has even found its place in the world ofconcert musical literature due to the fine works of composers such as Astor Piazzolla. It is hard to imagine a guitarist today without a number of tangos in his solo repertoire. These 14 tangos were composed to provide tangoliterature for the plectrum or flatpick guitarist. Of course they may also be performed on the Classic Guitar.I would like to make special note of the tango Lucia. I originally wrote Lucia as a Guitarduet. The duet is recorded on my Acoustic Guitar Portraits recording and is also in print in the companion book. I composed a new solo setting for Lucia in this book.I believe these tangos may be performed inconcert or recital for fun or even on a gig. I hope you enjoy performing them as much as I did composing them! All music in notation and tablature.
