The text of this hymn was written by Father Robert Riepl (1826-1871), member of the Schutzengelbruderschaft (brotherhood of guardian angels) at Wilhering Abbey and a friend of the composer. Bruckner revised the hymn, first set to music for mixed choir in 1868, for male choir in 1886. Score available separately - see item CA.338700.

Brent Wells' triumphant arrangement of the well-known hymn is a wonderful selection for TTBB choir. With alternate secular lyrics by author Toni Thomas, this work can also be a celebration of brotherhood and singing. Percussion and four-hand piano add to the grandeur.

God's people are called to sing. His song has been written on our hearts, and we must give voice to what He has written there. And there may be nothing quite so powerful as a men's chorus joining strong voices together in songs of honor and praise to their God and King!
