It is known that Bach reused the music of Cantata BWV 213 in his Christmas Oratorio and, as Hans Gruss convincingly explains, paid close attention to the preparation of the performance material in light of the repeated use of the new work. The final version of the cantata is recognizable in the parts of the Christmas Oratorio, states Gruss. The specifics of the later revision can thus be retraced.
