Personal Note My high school band director, Clarence F. Wroblewski, died on November 24, 2018. In the 1950s, he was a pioneer in the field of public school instrumental music in Baltimore City. He was my mentor and my dear friend. It was his guidance and encouragement that set my young life's course on the path of music. Performance Notes Ceremony of Peace contains only the notes of the ascending pentatonic scale: Bb, C, Eb, F, and G. The middle voice written for Oboe, Tenor Sax and Horn uses the note D at cadences. The character of the music should give the impression of ceremonial music performed on primitive instruments. The Tom-Tom parts are exactly the same as the Snare Drum and Bass Drum parts. The director may decide whether to use one or the other or both. If Snare Drum with snares off is used, try it with mallets instead of drum sticks. If a Bass Drum is used be certain that it does not overpower the band. The director may choose to turn it on its side and muffle it with a towel. In the Percussion 2 part Sleigh Bells may double with the Tambourine to add a primitive, ceremonial sound. The Clarinet part may be doubled an octave higher in bands where this is possible.

Adven t candle lighting anthem Designed to support the lighting of the Advent candles, this includes a choral opening based on Coventry Carol, followed by a call and response litany with piano underscore, then a text to be read with the lighting of the candle. As that concludes, the choir comes back in with the option of adding the congregation for an original melody calling for peace on earth and for the Light of light to end our darkness. Since atomic-bomb survivors are aging today, the number of people who can tell about their experience of the atomic bombing is getting fewer. Although the Peace Memorial Ceremony is held every year on Atomic Bomb Day in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, it is hard not to feel that the memory of wartime is beginning to fade among people. Through the word 'non erodes' in the title, I wanted to express my idea that the memory of the atomic bomb has not weakened yet, and should not fade forever. - Tomiko Kohjiba.

The tension of the approaching ritual, softly supported by a mysterious percussion accompaniment, slowly builds and leads to an enticing dance. This precedes the height of the ritual, the pagan sacrifice. Following the sacrifice the peace seems to be restored until suddenly a surprising final turn ends Ritual.
