Chicago: 25 or 6 to 4: Marching Band: Score & Parts

A unique work from the Chicago-based group Mucca Pazza (translation “Mad Cow”) a 30 piece troupe of musicians performing as an outrageous on and off stage marching band. Their work Surf is a concoction ofmemorable bass riffs oddities and sounds. Tom Wallace captures all the intricacies of this piece in what is sure to be one of the most fun marching band arrangements yet to be performed.

Written in a relaxed tempo and easy going style this Chicago hit features low brass on the verse and solid scoring for the full band.

In imitation of the huge ‘House rage’ (at the end of the eighties) John Emerson Blackstone composed ‘House of Dance’ for youth orchestra. It proved to be a success. House owes its name to the place where this music was ‘developed’ i.e. an old night club called ‘The Warehouse’ in Chicago. Many subcultures followed. Whether you like the style or not one thing is certain: House music (also called Dance music) for many provides the basis for hours of fun on the dance floor.

One of the highlights from the movie is this distinctive and moderately paced dance feature. Woodwinds and horns get a chance to shine on this one!
