Make We Joy Now In This Fest by Ian Assersohn for SATB unaccompanied.In this lively 6/8 setting Assersohn explores a macaronic 15th-century text ('A Patre Unigenitus/Through a maiden is come') with its exclamations of 'Eya!' reinforcing festive celebration. Featuring modal harmonies and energetic rhythms this carol promises to be a fresh uplifting and accessible addition to any Christmas programme.

Sing, Choirs! is a library in miniature. It contains many of the Christian church's popular traditional anthems, including at least one example that will be suitable for each of the major services of the year. A number of Anglican chants (Psalms, Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis) are included, set out in a way that should enable those who are unfamiliar with the style to perform them easily. The selection of movements from the Mass can be used to enrich the music of the liturgy in services. from La Chanson de la Naissance-This piece by Astor Piazzolla first appeared in a comedy theatre show by Kado Kostzer and Alfredo Arias called Famille d'Artistes. The original piece  La Chanson de la Naissance had a French text. Piazzolla is best known for his development of Tango Nuevo through his many works that cross the boundaries between tango jazz and classical music. This arrangement which is true to his original tune and harmonic scheme shows many of these traits. Here the simple tune and chorus is passed around all sections of the ensemble – including an unaccomapnied section – building to the choral tutti with thewords “joy to the world.”

Sam Pegg's A Child Of The Snows for SATB choir and Piano accompaniment is a setting of a poem by G. K. Chesterton. Chesterton was known as an avid traveller and was a friend to all he met on his wanderings. In his own house he was famed for his warmth and hospitality. For him the inn was almost a spiritual symbol. 'In all of my settings of his poems I have tried to convey the sense of a yearning journey of life coupled with the joy of finding something thought lost forever: we travel to a place that if we are truthful we never really left. In A Child of the Snows I have tried to suggest the wandering wondering journey to the next staging post 'the Inn at the end of the world'. - Sam Pegg There is heard a hymn when the panes are dim And never before or again When the nights are strong with a darkness long And the dark is alive with rain. When music-lover Carl Zulehner from Mainz delivered the manuscript of this ?Mozart? mass to the publishers it was accepted published and was performed. It was later popular in the Victorian era particularly in England. However when Zulehner was challenged about its authenticity he did not come forward with Mozart?s own manuscript. It is possible that Zulehner forged the work himself.Scholars also suggest attribution to Wenzel Müller a Viennese composer of light opera. However many works have been wrongly attributed to Mozart for many reasons. This particular one enjoyed a great following and the Gloria movement is still performed frequently and to greateffect particularly by amateur choirs.

Composed in a set of three pieces the poetry in this piece comes from James Joyce's collection Chamber Music. The music beautifully portrays the imagery of lovers wandering along a river the essence of a cool valley and the falling rain. Combined they leave the listener with the sense of a quiet hushed world full of love and longing as they are led into a dazzling world heavy with memories. Duration: 9:30.

Anna R. Matthews writes: 'Frederick Niven's poem tells the story of Christmas in 1914. On Christmas Day a truce was spontaneously enacted by the two sides fighting in Flanders in World War One. This was five months into the war which until this point many in Britain had confidently believed would be over by that time. When the two sides lay down their weapons in the name of humanity and met in the middle of no-man's-land they would not have realised the bloodshed that was to come as the war dragged on for a further four years - a conflict so atrocious that it came to be known as 'the war to end all wars'.This carol conveys the unknowing innocence of thosemen and the joy of Christmas yet explores the sinister context in which they met and the future which was to come. Ultimately the events of the 1914 Christmas truce came to symbolise the universality of hope and peace at Christmas. This carol brings this message into the twenty-first century.' Anna R. Matthews is a composer living in Exeter England. Born in Devon Anna studied music at Durham University where she was awarded the Rosalind Dickinson Prize. She enjoys working with some of today's most talented and creative ensembles: from Psappha to EXAUDI and from cathedral choirs to youth ensembles. Her music has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3 and she has been a featured new music composer in Choir & Organ magazine. Anna was a finalist in the 2011 King James Bible Composition Awards and is a 2013/24 Arts Council England fellow on the Clore Leadership Programme. She is also a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
