David McKeown #6022223. Published by David McKeown (A0.589309). Silver Wedding, (Die Silberne Khasene in Yiddish), is a Jewish Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Clarinet. Jewish Wedding bands, prominent in early twentieth century New York, were well placed to take advantage of the phonograph recording revolution. Accordingly, we are fortunate to have a rich record of the musical style of the time. Silver Wedding first appeared in a 1915 recording by Abe Elenkrig’s Orchestra. Elenkrig was born in Ukraine, which may point to the origins of the tune. Silver Wedding is in a Bulgar style, a happy piece designed to escort the newly-weds from the ceremony to the feast. Silver Wedding is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in three sections; overall the tune is played twice with a short introduction and coda and with constant variations in the accompaniment. Silver Wedding is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around three minutes, this version of Silver Wedding is perfect for weddings, celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. Les Patineurs Valse or The Skaters' Waltz or Der Schlittschuhläufer-Walzer (German), Op. 183, is a waltz by Émile Waldteufel.t was composed in 1882, inspired by the Cercle des Patineurs or Rink of Skaters at the Bois de Boulogne in Paris. The introduction to the waltz can be likened to the poise of a skater, and the rapid runs invoke scenes of a wintry atmosphere. It is arranged here for symphonic winds.. the piccolo part is optional, but if used, adds to the brilliance of the piece. It has been performed many times by the orchestra of André Rieu.2018 Holiday Contest EntryNB Clarinets in A parts onlySee my other arrangement in Bb, using clarinets in BbSomething different for that Christmas or Winter Concert. Barnacle Bill by H Ashworth-Hope is an instantly recognised melody for generations of people in the UK. It has been used as the signature tune to Blue Peter, the longest-running children's TV show in the world. The original recording of the theme by Sidney Torch and the New Century Orchestra was used until 1979 when it was replaced by an arrangement by Mike Oldfield of 'Tubular Bells' fame. Since then there have been several versions. This lively arrangement for Wind Quintet features the upper woodwind sharing the main melody between them. The lower parts have their moment with the second theme before the recapitulation of the tune. Also available is an arrangement for Clarinet, Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Euphonium and Keyboard (strings). Score and parts for both versions are available from Sheet Music Direct. Organizer, promoter, composer and conductor James Reese Europe, called by Eubie Blake the Martin Luther King of Musicâ€, was the leading figure in the African-American music scene of New York City in the 1910's. Europe composed the spirited Clef Club March as the signature theme for his 125 member Clef Club orchestra that performed at Carnegie Hall from 1912 to 1915. During World War I, Europe directed the 369th Infantry Regiment Harlem Hellfighters Band to great acclaim in performances throughout France. Arranged for a traditional woodwind quintet of flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, and bassoon, with alternate parts clarinet in B-flat substitute for oboe, alto saxophone in E-flat substitute for horn, and bass clarinet in B-flat substitute for bassoon, the historically important work has audience appeal and is accessible for less experienced performers. Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, 1st Baronet (27 February 1848 – 7 October 1918) was an English composer, teacher and historian of music.Parry's first major works appeared in 1880. As a composer he is best known for the choral song Jerusalem, his 1902 setting for the coronation anthem I was glad, the choral and orchestral ode Blest Pair of Sirens, and the hymn tune Repton, which sets the words Dear Lord and Father of Mankind. His orchestral works include five symphonies and a set of Symphonic Variations. The following is taken from All Music....Helen, Countess of Rador was the wife of the Fifth Earl of Longford Castle, Salisbury and was a close personal friend of Hubert Parry. She was unique in many ways, but perhaps the most intriguing aspect of her personality was her insistence upon doing things not normally viewed as acceptable ways for a proper Victorian Lady to entertain herself. One of these activities was commissioning works for a seventy-two piece chamber orchestra which she then conducted in a public performance in London. The Lady Radnor Suite is one such work, and Lady Radnor and her chamber orchestra gave the first performance June 29, 1894 at St. James Hall. Parry patterned the work on the early classical orchestral suite of dance movements, and the six movements all demonstrate the influence of antiquity. Each traditional dance style is preserved with great care, while Parry's own particularly English harmonic language marks them as more contemporary. This movt. is arranged for wind quintet.I have also arrangements of another suite by Parry on this site: The English Suite Parry: Lady Radnor's Suite VI. Wind Quintet - Flute, Oboe, Clarinet (for A or Bb), French Horn and Bassoon.Mendelssohn's delightful Spring Song (Frühlingslied) appears in the fifth volume of his Songs Without Words (Lieder ohne Worte), which were published between 1842 and 1844. The Songs Without Words are short, lyrical piano pieces that were intended for the drawing room but also well suited to the recital room. The Spring Song is one of the most well known and has been arranged for various combinations, including an arrangement by the composer for piano duet, and by others for small theatre orchestra and symphony orchestra. This arrangement for wind quintet remains in the original key of A Major, which Mendelssohn probably chose for its bright, Spring-like qualities. The melodic material is shared between all five instruments which helps bring some additional tonal variation and colour to this lovely piece. Duration 2' 31.
