It is quite modal at times and representative of a medieval tone.It is in Concert D minor and Ternary form, I have set it at early intermediate as the instrumental ranges are around 2 octaves and a dotted crotchet quaver is the most complicated rhythm. On the youtube link there is the full score for you to assess suitability. It is around 4 minutes in length and very suitable for a number of situations. INSTRUMENTATION: 2 Concert Flutes, 1 Alto FluteSources suggest that the song is a love ballad that praises the beauty and virtues of a woman named Calextone, who was a lady from the town of Arouse. The lyrics describe her as having great value and worth, and her beauty and grace are compared to smoke and mist. The composer of the song, Solage, also refers to himself in the refrain with a double meaning, using the spelling soulage. The song is considered a representative example of French secular music from the late fourteenth century. It is not known whether Calextone was a real person or a fictional character created by the composer. Some sources suggest that the song may have been composed for a wedding, possibly that of Jeanne de Boulogne, and that Solage may have been in the service of Gaston Fébus, compte de Foix, who had a financial interest in the marriage. The composer of the song, Solage, was a prominent figure in the Ars subtilior movement, which was characterized by complex rhythms, intricate melodies, and highly stylized notation. The song is considered a representative example of this musical style, which flourished in France during the late medieval period. The song's use of acrostics and double meanings in the lyrics, as well as its intricate musical structure, demonstrate the sophistication and complexity of the Ars subtilior style. Overall, Calextone qui fut dame d'Arouse is an important example of medieval French music and its evolution over time. "The Hunky Punks" Original for Flute Ensemble (6 C Flutes)

Flute Choir,Woodwind Ensemble Flute - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1427858 Composed by Grant Horsley. Classical,Comedy,Contemporary,Contest,Festival,Halloween. 41 pages. Grant Horsley #1008600. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1427858). A Hunky punk is a grotesque carving on the side of a building, typically found on Mid/ Late medieval churches in the UK. They are plentiful in Somerset in the West Country of England Though similar in appearance to a gargoyle, a hunky punk is purely decorative and has no other functional purpose whatsoever!! Unlike the gargoyle, which serves to drain water off the roof through its mouth. The theory behind hunky punks and grotesques in general, was that churches were designed to reflect the balance between good and evil, reminding worshippers of the narrow path leading through life. As a result, for every saint or animal that was intended to signify purity and ‘goodness’, there was also an ugly creature to signify evil and ‘badness’.Scored for six C Flutes, this piece is in concert D minor and begins with a medieval type of fanfare which occurs throughout. What follows is a haunting theme with lots of flattened 5ths and several discords to represent the uncomfortable nature of this statue. The staccato and accent direction in most of the piece gives the impression of walking on eggshells not knowing what lies around the corner! Then a brief legato section of the fanfare appears to provide a calmer atmosphere before eventually returning to the main theme and big ending. Set at intermediate level but on the youtube link there is the full score for you to assess suitability. It is nearly 5 mins in length and would be a great addition to a repertoire.Price is for full score and all parts. "The Hunky Punks" for Flute Choir.

Piano,Soprano Flute - Digital Download SKU: A0.1433845 By Traditional. By Traditional. Arranged by Joan Bujacich. Celtic,Folk,Irish,Pop,Traditional. Score and part. 10 pages. Joan Bujacich #1014054. Published by Joan Bujacich (A0.1433845). The piano and flute score is 7 pages in length, but Ms. Bujacich extracted the flute alone as well which is only 2 pages. This entire PDF then is 10 pages total with the cover. Clean, professionally notated. This arrangement by Joan Bujacich is in D Dorian mode. The flute plays the melody for the first two verses and then in the third verse it goes up an octave and the piano imitates some of the melodic lines, making for a nice dialogue between the two instruments. This medieval folk song uses the melody later used by Simon & Garfunkel. It was first sung by Mark Anderson (1874–1953), a retired lead miner from Middleton-in-Teesdale, County Durham, England to Ewan MacColl in 1947.Scarborough Fair, was popularized in the United States by the 1960s singer-songwriting duo Simon & Garfunkel. The folk song is about a market fair that took place in the town of Scarborough in Yorkshire during medieval times. Like any fair, it attracted traders, entertainers and food vendors, along with other hangers-on. The fair peaked in the late 14th century but continued to operate until the end of the 1700s. Now, several fairs are held in remembrance of the original.Be sure to check out Ms. Bujacich's arrangement page. She has many other great arrangements for Flute and Piano and solo piano. Â I have reharmonized it with the accompaniment in a Key Signature a fifth above that of the melody. Â The accompaniment, part 2, has a broken two chord ostinato throughout written as a walking bass line. Â I have altered the melody, part 1, and moved much of it to the off beats. Â As in period early music, I allow occassional dissonances in order to keep the ostinato. Â This piece makes a wonderfully useful and unique addition to the season's repertoire. Â (I have also published a version on this site with text so it can be sung by a soloist or unison choir with piano accompaniment.)
