March of the Three Kings for Alto Saxophone Duet at the Intermediate level. The Crusades-those religious expeditions to rescue the holy places in Palestine from the Muslims, created an enormous interest in both faith and fighting in the Middle Ages. French peasants from Provence in the 13th century, when the tune for this March of the Kings was being sung and danced to, must have endowed the Three Kings of the Christmas story with all the virtues and appearance of their own folk heroes nearer at hand. These were the French dukes, clad in gleaming armor, carrying brilliant banners and bejeweled shields, who fought for the Pope far more willingly than they would have for the lives of their own serfs. Hence the martial references in this text, sung to a tune that is perhaps even older than the verses. Georges Bizet, composer of the opera Carmen, used the same tune as a farandole, or stately dance, in his incidental music for Alphonse Daudet’s play L’Arlesienne (The Woman from Aries). The March of the Three Kings has been arranged in the alto sax friendly key of g minor at the intermediate level. Performance time: approx. 2 minutes. Grant Horsley #6492163. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.785814). The Nightingale For Alto Sax Duet and Piano is in a gentle Barcarolle tempo in concert G minor and in ternary form. I wanted the lilting tempo in the outer sections to have a medieval minor tone, to work with the contrasting major section in the middle. I very much wanted it to be a sax duet rather than sax 1 and sax 2, so the parts are pretty equally divided. It is romantic in nature, but uses modes and has a few interesting harmonies. It is placed at early intermediate level, about associated board grade 4/5- The youtube link has the full score for you to assess suitability. A dotted quaver semiquaver is the most complicated rhythm. It would be very suitable for concerts, contests, recitals, weddings as well as an incidental piece. 5 minutes in length. Price is for score and parts (also Clarinet duet, flute duet, flute and clarinet duet, and violin duet available). Samba de Simão, for Alto Saxophone Duet

Published by David McKeown Samba de Simão is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Alto Saxophones.
This duet is based on the style of Samba. With roots in West African music, modern Samba emerged in Rio de Janiero, Brazil at the beginning of the twentieth century. There are many forms, both sung and instrumental, and the Samba rhythm has found its way around the world into jazz and modern electronic pop and dance music. Samba has become a cultural symbol of Brazil, with Rio’s famous Samba schools producing theatrical and ultra-professional showpieces for the annual carnival.
If you play to an advanced intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. Rhythms should be lightly articulated, the melody should always flow, the two underlying strong beats in each bar should always be felt, and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. Samba de Simão has a performance time of two and a half minutes. Follow the link above to listen to a complete YouTube performance of the Clarinet version of Samba de Simão.
