Music 50 Tunes Volume 1 for Bass is one book in a 5-book series. The 50 Tunes series is a collection of Bluegrass, Old Time and Celtic tunes for ensembles, families and individuals. This book contains the same 50 tunes as those found in the other 4 books of the series, but carefully designed for the bass. The parts in this book range from beginner to advanced and are arranged in basic, active and solo levels. Basic, a standard accompaniment mode is the simplest level of bass playing. Active bass is a mixture of basic accompaniment and walking which is common in jazz music. Solo bass--which involves fast, syncopated melodic phrases - is the most complex level of bass playing. All parts are written in standard bass clef notation and 4-line bass tablature. Tunes recorded by full band, not all instruments featured in every song. Includes access to extended length online audio. The Girl By the Spring - vocal trio

Mark R Lewis #649456. Published by Mark R Lewis (A0.1044838). This original song tells a fairy tail in the style of a Celtic folk song. Both the story and the tune are wholly original and were composed as part of a music production class that Mark participated in during the spring of 2022. This song tells the story of a young boy's adventure in the woods, his skepticism towards what the old folks say, and the results of his failure to listen to them. This piece by Mark Lewis is intended for a vocal soloist with two part vocal accompaniment. The voice parts are all written in treble clef for ease of reading but the Lead should be sing-able by most singers. The Upper Harmony should be sing-able by all except contraltos and true basses, and the Lower Harmony will sound best with altos, baritones, or basses. The instrumental parts consist of vibraphone, piano, bass guitar, and floor tom parts. Any mellow metallophone would be an appropriate substitute for the vibraphone and the bass guitar part can be played on almost any bass instrument. The optional floor tom could be substituted with any other lower, resonant drum available but should not be a short, sharp sound. All that said, both the vibraphone and bass guitar parts are mostly doubled in the piano or vocal lines so groups that do not have access to those instruments should still be able to perform this piece without concern. This piece is also available for SATB Ensemble. Vocal Range: d minor Lead - 1 octave (C3 to C4 or C4 to C5) Upper Harmony - 1+ octave (C3 to E4 or C4 to E5) Lower Harmony - 1+ octave (F2 to A3 or F3 to A4) Instrumental Range: Vibraphone - 1+ octave (D4 to E5) Piano - ability to reach at least an octave in both hands Bass guitar - 1+ octave (E2 to A3). This song features the use of an Ugly Stick, a traditional Newfoundland percussion instrument. You Can’t Tell a Newfie words and music by David Kai ©1990 No you can’t tell a Newfie a thing he should do To sit or to stay or to come back to you He’s hairy and slobbery, as strong as a horse It’s the Newfoundland dog that I sing of, of course. He’s the kind of a dog that will never be scared For to serve and protect he was bred and prepared And there’s many a swimmer whose life has been spared By the Newfoundland dog, who’s like a lifeguard with hair. But you can’t tell a Newfie a thing he should do To sit or to stay or to come back to you He’s hairy and slobbery, as strong as a horse It’s the Newfoundland dog that I sing of, of course. You can hook up a Newfie to a cart or a sleigh It will bear all your burdens, not tiring all day It can carry a line from a boat to the land To rescue the perishing, saving all hands But you can’t tell a Newfie a thing it should do To sit or to stay or to come back to you It’s hairy and slobbery, as strong as a horse It’s the Newfoundland dog that I sing of, of course. She is strong but so gentle, a real teddy bear But there won’t be a place where you won’t find her hair She will care for the children, watch them just like a Mum And keep them in safety ‘til labours are done But you can’t tell a Newfie a thing she should do To sit or to stay or to come back to you She’s hairy and slobbery, as strong as a horse It’s the Newfoundland dog that I sing of, of course. It’s the Newfoundland dog that I sing of, of course.
