Jim Jones of Botany Bay (6/8 Adagio in 6) is a traditional Australian folk ballad. The narrator, Jim Jones, is arrested, tried, and sentenced to transportation. The Drovers Dream (6/8 Brightly in 2)One night when traveling sheep, my companions lay asleep There was not a star illuminate the sky. I was dreaming I suppose, for my eyes were partly closed. They were traveling mighty fast but they shouted as they passed. We'll have to jog along, it's getting late. This arrangement is for String Orchestra with plenty of interest for all sections. These five traditional Celtic folksongs are among the best known and best loved of all folk music. Ar Hyd Y Nos (All Through The Night), first published in 1784 in Edward Jones's anthology of folk songs, Musical and Poetical Relics of the Welsh Bards, became one of the most popular hymns in the English-speaking world. A popular Christmas song, All Through the Night also appears in numerous films and stage productions, beginning with John Gay's opera of 1728 and up to the present day. Calon Lân (a pure heart), a traditional Celtic tune with lyrics later written by Daniel James (Gwyrosydd) in the 1890s, has become the anthem of the Welsh Rugby league. Llwyn Onn (The Ash Grove) was first published in 1892 in The Bardic Museum by harpist Edward Jones. In its English version, with words written by poet Thomas Oliphant, it is traditionally sung in America on Thanksgiving and Christmas. Dafydd y Gareg Wen (David of the White Rock). This song was written by David Owen, a harpist who died about 1720 at the tender age of 29. Tradition says that Owen was lying on his deathbed, and called for his harp. Too weak to hold the harp, he was helped by his wife, who held the harp upright while he played this haunting tune. Rhyfelgyrch Gwyr Harlech (Men of Harlech) describes the seven-year siege of Harlech Castle between 1461 and 1468. Commanded by Constable Dafydd ap Ieuan, the Welsh garrison withstood the longest known siege in the history of the British Isles I hope you enjoy playing this as much as I enjoyed writing it. If you enjoy this, you are welcome to try some of my other arrangements. You can see them at http://www.sheetmusicplus.com/publishers/yoel-epstein-sheet-music/3001988?ac=1. JB Linear #4364530. Published by JB Linear (A0.582031). Gustav Holst - Folksongs of Hampshire England . In the early 1900's there was great interest in collecting and preserving the folk songs of England, Scotland, and Ireland. Equipped with their newly invented recording devices, people such as Cecil Sharp, Charles Stanford, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Gustav Holst would travel into the country-side to record, or notate songs being sung. They would frequently use these songs in their own compositions. Holst's music in particular is filled with those songs. This group of four songs was arranged for voice and piano by Holst and set for string orchestra by John Gibson. The songs are 1. Young Edwin in the Lowlands Low 2. Bedlam City 3. The Irish Girl 4. Young Reilly. Five Hungarian Folk Songs

Westleaf Edition #764511. Published by Westleaf Edition (A0.1164163). These Five Hungarian Folks Songs were transcribed and arranged from 78rpm records issued about 1915.Király ErnÅ‘ sings several as Old Folk Songs (“Régi Népdalokâ€), even though Megugrattak Hortobágyon A Karámból Egy Csikót was composed by Vajda József and remains an often recorded song. Megy A GÅ‘zös Lefelé on the Munkacsy recording was composed by Rózsa S. Lajos, but composers of the remaining songs are unidentified. The records were purchased by József Báthory in Manhattan in the early 20th century, and remained in the family until the 21st century. All the records were transferred to digital form in January 2013, with the original transfer stored in exact condition, after which they were passed on to historian David Neal Lewis for archiving. Files were restored from the digital transfers (rumble, clicks, pops removed as much as possible, noise reduction, and some remastering) and are available for download at:http://maltedmedia.com/people/bathory/hungarian.htmlSpecial thanks to composer Ãdám Kondor for translations of the Régi Népdalok texts, and to Dr. A. S. Weinstangel for noting errors in the score. The bowings in this edition are by violinist John Lindsey, who directed the premiere of this set with Vermont’s Eleva Chamber Players.Katika Csárdásoriginal performed by unidentified “Military Bandâ€, Columbia 10-inch E920Nyári este furulyázom sokáig(‘I play the flute all summer eve’)original performed by Király ErnÅ‘ on “Régi Népdalokâ€, Columbia 12-inch E5077BÃhari Hatarszélén – Megy A GÅ‘zös Lefelé – Csárdás(‘At the Bihari border’ - ‘The steamer goes down’ - Csárdás)original performed by the Olga B. Published by Imagine Music - Digital (IZ.CBS1615-S). 9 x 12 in inches.Reflections on a German Folk Song is based on the traditional round Himmel und Erde, which directly translated meansHeaven and Earth, however the common English title is Music Alone Shall Live. While teaching music for SaydelCommunity School District in Des Moines, Iowa, I taught the round to elementary students and concluded that the folk tunewould lend itself well to young instrumentalists. Consequently, I set out to arrange the round for emerging band. After an introduction based on motives and rhythms of the round, the tune is initially played by an alto saxophone solo (oroboe). After a transition from the key of F Major to E-Flat Major, the band divides into three groups to play the three-voiceround. The entire round is repeated twice, exhibiting a lengthy crescendo and eventual diminuendo caused by the threeinstrument groupings ending their voices in the round.Having students perform a simple, yet lyrical round provides for a variety of educational opportunities. Similar to youngvocal ensembles, performing a round helps students to securely play with a group that is doing something different thanother sections of the ensemble, which ultimately assists in the transition to playing within a smaller, individual section orindependent part. Reflections on a German Folksong contains simplistic rhythms, which allows students to primarily focuson phrasing, articulation, tone quality and dynamics. Reflections on a German Folk Song
