Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1465850 Composed by James F. Linzey and William H. Monk. 21st Century,Chamber,Christian,Classical,Religious. 4 pages. Military Bible Association #1044448. Published by Military Bible Association (A0.1465850). The History of the Four Immortal Chaplains and the United States Army HymnDuring World War II, four Army chaplains met at the Army Chaplains School at Harvard University. ere, they received training for their assignments in the European theater. They then boarded and sailed on the United States Army Transport (USAT) Dorchester to report to their new assignments. The USAT Dorchester left New York on January 23, 1943, en route to Greenland. She carried about 900 military personnel and was escorted by Coast Guard Cutters Tampa, Escanaba, and Comanche. During the early morning hours of February 3, 1943, the vessel was torpedoed by the German submarine U-223 off Newfoundland in the North Atlantic. As the Dorchester sank on that fateful day of February 3, 1943, the four Army chaplains on board helped their soldiers board lifeboats as they handed out life jackets. When they ran out of life jackets, the chaplains gave their own life jackets to four soldiers that they might live. Then the chaplains joined arms and prayed as they went down with the Dorchester. These were young chaplains, new to the Army, holding the rank of first lieutenant. They included Methodist minister Reverend George L. Fox, Reform Rabbi Alexander D. Goode, Catholic priest Father John P. Washington, and Reformed Church in America minister Reverend Clark V. Poling. e four chaplains were posthumously awarded the Distinguished Service Cross and the Purple Heart. Chaplain (MAJ) James F. Linzey, USA (Ret.), who was one of four military chaplains in his family, composed the United States Army Hymn, “Eternal Father, Hear Our Prayer,” in remembrance of the “Four Immortal Chaplains” on board the Dorchester. Also, James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.

Choral Choir (SAB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1120365 By Philip Le Bas. By J-B Lully / G Bizet. Arranged by Philip Le Bas. Christmas,Praise & Worship,Religious,Sacred,Traditional. Octavo. 8 pages. Philip Le Bas #721616. Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1120365). A new arrangement by Philip Le Bas of a thirteenth century French Christmas carol from Provence harmonized by Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-87, attrib.) and, more famously, by Georges Bizet (1838-75, in his L'Arlesienne Suite of 1872.) In France the melody is still tightly associated with Christmas, and French audiences start singing their own Christmas words whenever they hear the melody (the arranger has heard it himself!) The English translation used here is adapted from a variety of sources. The three kings (or more precisely the magi from St Matthew's gospel) are seen marching towards Bethlehem with their fantastic golden wealth and grandeur. But why are they going to see a low-born baby and why do they worship this child who will die on a cross? The organ sets the scene from the beginning with its marching accompaniment, and the first verse is sung in unison by all three parts. The second begins with a canon, as used by Bizet, and then breaks into harmony. The first section of the third verse is much quieter and legato, sung by the sopranos and altos, using wonderful chromatic harmonies based on another section from Bizet's suite. The lyrics express wonder at the beautiful music heard from the camp of the kings. The second section, sung in differentiated unison then begins to wonder why the kings stoop so low to a baby in a manger. Finally the fourth verse, sung in full harmony, returns to the marching accompaniment and reiterates the amazement of meeting these kings with their mysterious mission. The carol is aimed at parish choirs with limited resources, but a good organist. The melody is well-known, much of it is in unison, and other sections are relatively easy to sing. Care should however should be taken to sing the dotted rhythms accurately - this is what gives the carol its marching character.

Voice and piano - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8492-36E Composed by MeeAe Cecilia Nam and Theodore Gouvy. Instrument part. 5 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8492-36E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8492-36E). French.Gouvy was known for writing some of the most beautiful melodies of the Romantic period. His style is a combination of German forms and an early French romantic harmonic structure. His writing for the piano in the songs is totally unified in mood and description with the voice, just as the piano is in Schubert’s songs. The equal partnership of the vocal line and piano interact closely to bring the poetry vividly into life with unimaginable artistic heights and unbridled passion. This volume includes Gouvy songs set to 18 poems of Philippe Desportes (1546–1606), and 18 poems of Moritz Hartmann (1821–1872). The elements of Romantic love poetry, such as enchanting love and its pain, and the personifying of nature, are fluently described with a great sensitivity in both voice and piano. Gouvy’s melody stir up the imagination because of his special treatment of words through a distinguishable and melodious vocal line, and his story telling and poetic treatment and development of the piano accompaniment. His compositional artistry places him in the upper echelons of art-song composers. One should note that Gouvy had a special fondness for the 16th Century poetry of La Pléiade (a group of Renaissance French poets, led by Pièrre de Ronsard (1524–1585). Desportes was truly the heir to Ronsard; however his work, when compared to that of Ronsard, is filled with greater abstraction and greater fluidity. Desportes seems to avoid any of the passionate anger that is occasionally characteristic of La Pléiade. This may be an indication that Desportes lived in a less distressed time. It also seems necessary to point out that he learned much in his early career by copying and studying the earlier works of La Pléiade. This has led some scholars to label him as a plagiarist, but it is important to realize that all the members of La Pléiade copied from each other when they wished to learn something new, and truly understand the style of the other poets in the group. Gouvy’s only choice of poems from his contemporaries, were the works of Moritz Hartmann (1821–1872), a good friend of Gouvy’s. Much of his poetry was strongly political in support of freedom of the individual. He traveled to Leipzig in 1845, but when the authorities discovered a volume of patriotic poems entitled Kelch und Schwert (Chalice and Sword), he fled to Belgium and France. It is at this time that he possibly met Théodore Gouvy. Eighteen poems of Hartmann were translated from German to French by the French poet, Adolph Larmande, of whom very little is known. Pierre Toussaint Adolphe Larmande seems to have been a rather obscure poet and musician. We know that he taught music theory at the Paris Conservatory at the same time Anton Reicha and Michele Carafa were on the faculty. We also know that in 1847 he married an English woman by the name of Marie Caroline Bradley. There are random documents, such as a Certificate of Arrival in London, England, in 1837, but there are no birth and death dates given, and that includes his obituary notice.

Soprano voice,Vocal Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1185473 Composed by Maurice Ravel. Arranged by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo. Classical,Opera. 6 pages. Nicole Elyse DiPaolo #785149. Published by Nicole Elyse DiPaolo (A0.1185473). The first of its kind, this is a genuinely playable and slightly-to-moderately simplified piano/vocal reduction of Arrière! Je réchauffe les bons, the Fire Aria from Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges (1925). Sopranos who love this aria no longer need to fear bringing it in for auditions, last-minute performing engagements, or other situations in which the pianist may have to sight-read from the often chaotic vocal score, particularly if the murmuring section after the standard audition cut, which is very poorly rendered in the standard reduction, is also being included. Pianists may now enjoy playing this aria comfortably, without risking strain/injury or audition-room chaos. This Accessible Accompaniment is more generous than standard audition cuts, ending just before L'enfant re-enters with j'ai peur. It is 91 measures in total and ideal for recitals as well. All Accessible Accompaniments, including this one, boast several unique features:1. No reduction ever requires stretches of over an octave, not including bass notes meant to be held or “fudged†with the pedal (though octaves may also contain chord tones within them). This reduces the amount of rearranging that smaller-handed pianists must already do. Obviously, further reworkings are to be expected and pianists should feel free to add to or modify what I’ve provided.2. I’ve included less essential, but potentially desirable additional voices/passages in cue-size noteheads so that pianists can easily see them, but know that they are not necessary in a “sink or swim†accompanying situation. Presenting less essential material in cue-size noteheads also reduces visual clutter on the page. 3. In addition to the composer’s markings, when needed, I have included hints on particular notes to bring out when the singer is likely to need them as a pitch anchor or when it is not obvious which line should be brought out within the texture.4. All page turns have been carefully selected so as to result in the least possible disruption to the pianist when possible. 5. When known, I’ve noted alternate cuts that singers might like to take within certain arias. 6. In some cases I’ve modernized spelling conventions for easier readability (for example, by replacing “߆with “ss†in German arias) and occasionally I've enharmonically respelled brief passages for greater clarity. I’ve also replaced some text “cresc.†and “dim.†markings with hairpins, which are easier to see in high-pressure sight-reading situations.About the Arranger:Praised as a sensitive pianist and outstanding accompanist who delivers powerful interpretations, Nicole Elyse DiPaolo enjoys a multifaceted career as a sought-after collaborative pianist, educational composer, arranger, coach, private teacher, and adjunct music professor. Currently based in the Cleveland area, Ms. DiPaolo has appeared as a concerto soloist with the Ambassador Chamber Players on multiple occasions and as a recitalist, collaborator, and presenter worldwide. Voice and piano (2 songs with violoncello; 1 vocal duet) - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8491-24E Composed by MeeAe Cecilia Nam and Theodore Gouvy. 4 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8491-24E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8491-24E). French.A French composer, Théodore Gouvy (1819-1898) was one of the most significant composers of 19th Century in Europe. The movement of rediscovering his instrumental music has been increasingly successful in Europe since the 1990s, especially following the birth of L’Institut Gouvy in France. However, his solo vocal music has been waiting to be unveiled to the public. Volume One includes 52 songs of Gouvy.Gouvy traveled widely throughout Europe. He was also a lover of nature. Generally, he spent his winters in Leipzig, but in the summertime, he always returned to Hombourg-Haut, France, to stroll through the woods, to hunt, and to relax. Gouvy was fluent in several languages and had a great appreciation of the Renaissance French Poetry of Pierre de Ronsard whose poetry he had set to music. The fifty-two songs in this volume are largely by Ronsard and other Renaissance poets of La Pléiade.Although Ronsard is approximately 300 years older than Gouvy, they both seem to have the same interest in classical literature, though, admittedly, for different reasons. Celebrated by the French and English courts, Ronsard (1525-1585) was the leader of La Pléiade: a group of seven poets (Joachim Du Bellay (1522-1560), Rémy Belleau (1528-1577), Étienne Jodelle (1532-1573), Pontus de Tyard (1521-1603), Jean–Antoine Baïf (1532-1589), and Jean Daurat (1508-1588), who dedicated their efforts to writing poetry in French rather than in Latin (or Greek) as most of the Romantic poets did. They wished to enrich the French language, and establish a new literature which would be the equal of the other literature of their period, and the equal to poets of the past. French Romantic poetry featured the closeness of the poet to nature, and his ability to communicate with nature by personifying (anthropomorphizing) all of nature’s elements: flowers, the planets, the moon, the breeze, and even the sand upon the shore. As a significant melodist, Gouvy’s treatment of the vocal solo line and his treatment and development of the piano accompaniment places him in the upper echelons as a composer of songs. His diverse cultural life led a rich and significant musical life, interacting with his contemporaries who admired his work, and whom Gouvy knew well, such as Liszt, Brahms, Schumann, Mendelssohn, Berlioz and Gounod.

Kristopher James Murdock #3097989. Published by Kristopher James Murdock (A0.893704). Music teachers -- piano, vocal, or music theatre! Are you wondering how to pique the interest of your students (and their recital audiences) in the heightened and ever shifting musical emotionalism of the Romantic style, while staying relevant to today by using a timeless story that arrests their attention? Do you need an expressive recital piece that will demonstrate your students' abilities in a wide range of expression? The solution to both of these problems is this dramatic piano-vocal arrangement of Behind The Maestro's Mask, from Revelation & Restoration's musical The Maestro's Mask: The Untold Story of the Opera Ghost. The song allows intermediate singers to moderately challenge their vocal emotional expression, and you may wish to accompany them yourself on the piano, yet it's also useful as an instrumental solo piece for a piano student. With music based on the A-C sections of Chopin's Polonaise, Op. 26, No. 1 in C# minor and Db major, but transposed and adapted in the easier keys of G minor and G major, this piece will act as a step up for your moderately advanced piano student, preparing for Chopin's work. (There are significant differences between this song and Chopin's Polonaise, particularly on pages 1 and 8-11.)Disclaimer: This piece quotes from Frédéric Chopin's public domain work, Polonaise, Op. 26, No. 1 and is part of Revelation & Restoration's musical The Maestro's Mask: The Untold Story of the Opera Ghost, which is based on a sequel to Gaston LeRoux's public domain novel Le Fantôme de l'Opéra. The musical is not a sequel to Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical version of The Phantom of the Opera. Revelation & Restoration is not affiliated with Andrew Lloyd Webber or The Really Useful Group.
