Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596495). I've found that music with autobiographical references has a particular expressive strength.I was in Finland once (performing at the World Tango Summit in Seinäjoki, 2011). The city of Seinäjoki is quite close to the Arctic Circle, so in summer the sun doesn't really set: instead of a night you have several hours of an eternal twilight. The feeling was that of a transition stopped in time, as a slow motion film of someone springing over a wide river. This can be a wonderful experience (and for me it was), but can be also unnatural to us, Latinamericans, used to the day is sun and night is no sun approach to life.Anecdotically, the temperature during these days in Seinäjoki was 31 Celsius. So my experience of Finland is that of a very warm place. I guess other persons have colder experiences. There are three versions of this piece: Piano solo (pedal all throughout, resonances) 7:24 Tibetan singing bowls 7:40 Electronic sounds (ambient) 7:50 The bowls version is recorded at A = 432 Hz. The solo piano and the electronic versions are at A = 440 Hz. Summer Twilights in Finland are Particularly Long was composed in Bremen on 5 May 2017. ALL PURCHASES COME WITH SCORE AND PARTSDuration 3 minutes. This short piece was inspired by my many sightings and observations of sparrowhawks in their behaviour,  hunting techniques and how they fly and soar. They appear to “Tango†with their prey. For me the Tango is a passionately agressive dance with no negotiation. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596506). Juan MarÃa Solare: Acuarelas junto al rÃo inmóvil (Watercolours alongside the still river) five nocturnes for piano solo The still river is the River Plate; the novelist Eduardo Mallea (1902-1982) refers to Buenos Aires as the city next to the still river, an allusion to its lack of haste. This cycle of piano pieces is a collection of five short nocturnes. The first four Acuarelas were composed in Buenos Aires between 9th and 12th April 2007, the fifth piece was conceived on 4th May and written down on 6th May 2007. All five pieces have practically the same formal structure. Concerning the musical language or style, I would classify this work under contemporary classical with interferences from modern jazz and new tango (imagine Astor Piazzolla listening to a recording of Thelonious Monk playing preludes of Alexander Scriabin). Single titles and approximate durations I - Bruma matinal (Morning Mist) [1'10] II - Flecha flotante (Floating Arrow) [1'00] III - Vaivén de los juncos (Sawying Reeds) [1'15] IV - Orilla urbana (Urban Shore) [2'00] V - Incandescencia estática (Static Incandescence) [0'45] ISWC (International Standard Musical Work Code): T-802.466.008-1 The Acuarelas were recorded by Juan MarÃa Solare in London on Friday 23rd May 2014. Texto:AcquaforteLetra: Carlos Marambio Catan.Música: Horacio Pettorossi. However, it's very much a joyful romp through a range of styles. The main theme is in 5/4 and it moves through a range of - mostly - irregular time-signatures, but uses a harmonic and melodic vocabluary strongly influenced by Bach, with lashings of some more jazzy language. There is a brief (two beat long) quote of Paul McCartney's song Blackbird used as thematic material in the second episode, the guitar part of which was also based on a piece by Bach. This would make a fun concert or encore piece. Thanks to wonderful local pianist Karen Smithies for the performance.Visit my YouTube page for more performances, arrangements and compositions. Published by Anne Britt (A0.741168). This famous classical piece was composed by Edvard Grieg as part of the play Peer Gynt, and is played as the title character, Peer Gynt, in a dream-like fantasy, enters the troll Mountain King’s hall to face a great crowd of troll courtiers, gnomes, and goblins. The Mountain King sits on his throne, with crown and sceptre, surrounded by his children and relatives. Peer Gynt stands before him. There is a tremendous uproar in the hall and these lyrics are heard:Slay him! The Christian man’s son has seducedthe fairest maid of the Mountain King!Slay him! Slay him!May I hack him on the fingers?May I tug him by the hair?Hu, hey, let me bite him in the haunches!Shall he be boiled into broth and bree to meShall he roast on a spit or be browned in a stewpan?Ice to your blood, friends! This arrangement for piano solo presents the theme of Grieg’s piece in a tango setting that is creative, fun, and much more accessible to the intermediate pianist. 5 pages. Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596596). Three Homages for piano solo1 - Seduce us badly (to Claude Debussy)2 - Ave Verdi (to Giuseppe Verdi) 3 - Schubertango (to Franz Schubert)Three Homagesfor piano solo1) Seduce us badly is an anagram of Claude Debussy. Stephen Porter's project Re-Imagining Debussy required the work to interact in some way with the music or compositional spirit of Debussy. I answered by using some of his technical devices: chords parallelisms, whole-tone scales, brief melodic shapes, central notes and a broad multi-layered texture. 2) Ave VerdiA miniature composed on the death-day of Verdi (27th January 2013). The piece is based on the 7-tone scala enigmatica used by Giuseppe Verdi in his Ave Maria (1889, first from Quattro Pezzi Sacri) and its complement (the missing 5 notes), treated as twelve-tone field. The piece is dedicated to that other Giuseppe: Lupis. The scala enigmatica: [Do - Reb - Mi - Fa# - Sol# - La# - Si] Complement: [Re - Mib - Fa - Sol - La]Original Tone Row: 0 1 4 6 8 10 11 2 3 5 7 9 3) SchubertangoTango music has more to do with Franz Schubert than with any other classical composer. Harmonies and types of melody are extremely similar. Such similarities cease, at the latest, when we come to rhythm. This miniature shows how Schubert's melodies can be flawlessly integrated into the musical language of tango. If one doesn't know the original pieces, you will not even recognize at all that there is a quotation. In the score, the composer kindly tags the sources of the quotations; nevertheless, there is also a hidden quotation (or rather an allusion) that doesn't stem from Schubert: it is the chord progression (not the melody) of a very well known tango of the modern era. Do you find it? The Schubertango was composed in Bremen (Germany) on 28 November 2014 and has a duration of 1 minute. The piece is dedicated to pianist Stephen Porter, in the frame of his project Re-Imagining Schubert, hosted by Vox Novus (New York City) and their cycle Fifteen Minutes of Fame. Numbered Places * piano * music by Juan María Solare
The cycle Numbered Places startsfrom a simple idea: the piece nr. 1 would have a title that begins with theword One, the piece nr. 2 a titlethat begins with the word Two and soon up to an arbitrary number (in this case, eleven).
For everything to have more cohesion, English names of different places orregions in either USA or (mainly) UK were used.
In its own way, Numbered Placesis therefore a conceptual album - alreadyfrom the point of view of titles.
Also musically, this world of sound has cohesion: instrumental piano music, neoclassical aesthetics (a somewhat broad concept that encompasses composerssuch as Erik Satie or Ludovico Einaudi), a certain simplicity in its surface.
Let us briefly comment each of the titles:
- One WayFlight to ...: The imaginary journey starts here. Each person will completethe sentence with the destiny of their choice.
- TwopennyLoaf: This is a neighborhood (and geographically a cape) in the city ofGloucester, Essex County, Massachusetts, USA. It is believed to have gotten itsname because it is shaped like a (bread) loaf that at the time cost twopennies.
- ThreeBridges: It is a city somewhere between London and Brighton, and a nodalpoint where trains typically split. Musically, the most minimalistic of all thecycle.
- Four Oaks:There are numerous places so named, both in England and the US, and possibly inother countries. I can imagine that there were actually four oak trees planted near.
- FivePointz: Neighborhood in Queens, New York. A graffiti mecca that wasdemolished in 2014 to build expensive buildings. And yes, it is spelled with zin this case.
- Six MileBottom: Is a hamlet near Cambridge in England. The hamlet derives its namefrom its distance from the start of Newmarket Racecourse and because it lies ina valley bottom. There is no public transport. The old train station, closed in1967 for lack of use, is now a private residence.
- SevenKings: It is a neighborhood in Ilford, East London. The earliest recordeduse of the name is as Sevekyngg or Sevekyngges in 1285, possibly meaning'settlement of the family or followers of a man called Seofoca'
- EightStreets: it is a (very sought-after) neighborhood located in the heart ofthe historic South End of the city of Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
- Nine Elms:a district of South West London. Nine Elms Lane was named around the year 1645,from a row of elm trees bordering the road.
- Ten TenRoad: it is a place -actually the main road- in the town of Apex, NorthCarolina, USA.
- ElevenLands: this place is mentioned in an old legal report from around 1782 asexisting in North London ("a place called Eleven Lands, containing fiveacres of arable, formerly Cosby's, beonging to a farm in the said parish ofBletcheley...", in " Acollection of the Reports of Cases, the Statutes, and Ecclesiastical Laws, relating to Tithes", volume 3). It has certainly changed its name.Musically, this last piece has a certain tango aura.
Why eleven pieces and not more? The truth is that - incredibly as it mayseem - I didn't find any place called "Twelve" something. Yes thereare such names in other languages, but I wanted to keep some consistency. Thereare also pubs or bars called Twelvewhatever, but since they are not sponsoring my music, I had no motivation togive them free advertising at the moment.

Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596546). Entradora -- Milonga for solo piano, music by Juan MarÃa SolareComposed in Bremen, Germany, from 10 to 13 November 2018. Duration: around 2'15. Premiere by Juan MarÃa Solare on 8 January 2019 at the theatre of the university of Bremen (recital Neue -und alte- Innigkeit, New -and old- intimism). Video by the composer in his private Studio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4f89TCd3di8About the title:- First of all, entradora is an adjective that can be applied to a femenine noun. (In Spanish you have different declinations for masculine and femenine adjectives). The masculine version is entrador.- Second, entradora can understood in this context as a substantivized adjective, i.e. a word that is actually an adjective, but is used as if it were a noun, like if I say Now I will play 'Entradora'. (for a scientific explanation check yor favorite English grammar book).- Third, entradora is a wink to Argentine composer Julián Plaza, who used one-word adjectives as title of several of his milongas and tangos, for instance Nocturna, DanzarÃn, Melancólico, Melancólica, Sensiblero, Nostálgico, Disonante, Dominguera, Expresivo, Futura, Instrumental, Juguetón, Paseandera, Payadora, Solemne, Temperamental - and possibly others that I am not aware of.- And fourth, the meaning of the word entradora in the coloquial Spanish of Argentina is this one: if applied to a person, is someone that easily makes friends, that wins the trust of the people very easily, who is very charming. I applied to an object (or to a melody) it means that it is easy to grasp, that you remember it immediately (as an earworm), that is accessible and uncomplicated. - Oh, there is a fifth point: are you native (or good) English speaker? After all this explanation do you come to an understandable translation of this word, Entradora? If yes, let me know! (http://juanmariasolare.com/contact.html) From a Window [10 piano pieces]

If Franz Liszt composed a Bagatelle without tonality, why not a milonga without tonality. This piece is placed somewhere between classical music and new tango. Moderator Louis Barabbas wrote about Ausente for the BBC blog Fresh On The Net nr. 305 (19 November 2018), http://freshonthenet.co.uk/2018/11/faves305 Described as 'somewhere between classical music and new tango' the artist’s phrasing here is telling: somewhere rather than something. For in Juan Maria Solare’s Ausente (absent) we are certainly transported. Each angular phrase jutting up like stone columns or distended stalactites in a limey cave. The trickling thrust of its furtive intent feels somehow elemental yet focused through an urban noir prism, drops of heavy water in varying temperatures, some icicles and some steam, shards of smoky light poking around slow moving fan blades and between the rusty teeth of ancient window grills, monstrous warped shadows cast up from humble orphaned minutiae. Music as beautiful and unsettling as it is hard to dance to. The idea of dancing this piece was a surprise for me, since tango music doesn't need to be danced to (you can also just listen to it). But if you wonder how this tango would appear danced, imagine it is not called tango but contemporary ballet rooted in tango - and suddenly you find ways of dancing it... provided an open-minded choreographer is on board! If someone wants to dance this music in the style of the tango of 1920, they will have a hard time. It would be like trying to dance Strawinsky's Le Sacre du printemps as if it were the Blue Danube Waltz. Juan MarÃa Solare http://www.JuanMariaSolare.com Volver

In 1934, French Argentine composer Carlos Gardel along with lyricist Alfredo Le Pera created the tango ‘Volver.’ It is considered one of the most famous and beautiful tangos as it has become a symbol of nostalgia for all the Argentines forced to migrate from their homeland. This tango was recorded on March 19, 1935 for the film ‘El Dia Que Me Quieras (The Day you Love Me),’ which was also written by Le Pera and starred Gardel. In ‘Volver,’ Gardel sings about the pain and nostalgia of exile. This song symbolizes the fleetingness of life and the destiny of a man who is heading down the path of no return.Only three months after the recording, on June 24, Gardel and Le Pera perished in a plane crash in Medellin, Colombia. This tango has been covered by multiple singers, including Julio Iglesias and Il Divo. Solare This composition was born in order to be used as obligatory piece in a piano competition. As such, it has to have very specific characteristics: not to be too long, to presenta minimum degree of technical and aesthetic difficulty, but also achieving thatdelicate sweet spot in which the technical difficulty is musically justified; i.e.,that no pianist feels that they are wasting their time while studying it (oreven worse: that they have the impression of being studying an exercise).
The piano competition involved was the Segundo concurso nacional de piano 'festival de pianistas', basedin the city of Mar del Plata, Argentina.
In the adjective "tangabile" (a neologism that resembles "cantabile")is a hidden allusion to Astor Piazzolla's pieces Allegro tangabile or Moderatotangabile. Of course, tangabile implies "related to tango"
This is a video of the presentation of Daniel Álvarez Veizaga during that competition. The event tookplace at the Centro Cultural Victoria Ocampo “Villa Victoria”, Mar del Plata,Provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina. Piano Kawaii RX5.

Published by Juan Maria Solare (A0.596575). About the title: - First of all, entradora is an adjective that can be applied to a femenine noun. (In Spanish you have different declinations for masculine and femenine adjectives). The masculine version is entrador. - Second, entradora can be understood in this context as a substantivized adjective, i.e. a word that is actually an adjective, but is used as if it were a noun, like if I say Now I will play 'Entradora'. (for a more scientific explanation check yor favorite English grammar book). - Third, entradora is a wink to Argentine composer Julián Plaza, who used adjectives as one-word title of several of his milongas and tangos, for instance Nocturna, DanzarÃn, Melancólico, Melancólica, Sensiblero, Nostálgico, Disonante, Dominguera, Expresivo, Futura, Instrumental, Juguetón, Paseandera, Payadora, Solemne, Temperamental - and possibly others that I am not aware of. - And fourth, the meaning of the word entradora in the coloquial Spanish of Argentina is this one: if applied to a person, is someone that easily makes friends, that wins the trust of the people very easily, who is very charming. The milonga Entradora was composed in Bremen, Germany, from 10 to 13 November 2018. Duration: around 2'15. Premiere by Juan MarÃa Solare on 8 January 2019 at the theatre of the university of Bremen (recital Neue -und alte- Innigkeit, New -and old- intimism). Second version: for 8 instruments. Premiere: Orquesta No TÃpica, 22 January 2019, theatre of the university of Bremen. Third version: for piano four hands. Bremen, 16 January 2019. Premiere: Selma Hande Gade and Juan MarÃa Solare, Bellapais Spring Music Festival, Kyrenia, Cyprus, 16 April 2019.
