Donuts, if you make a mistake! The initial incarnation of these studies were written for trombone quartet and we would play them in the Tennessee Tech Trombone Choir with the challenge that whomever made the first mistake had to buy donuts for the rest of the ensemble. Since then I have brought that version to several clinics and warm up sessions. One time before I got to explain the title, a fellow trombone professor said, Oh, I get it! Don’t step in the holes!I only wish I had thought of that myself... Since we have one of the best donut shops in TN here in Cookeville, treating the studio to sugar coated goodies was always my intent. As with those initial exercises, you can vary these as much as you’d like.· Choose a tempo.· Choose a dynamic.· Choose an articulation/style.One way I like to play these is to have one person be the model, playing the entire scale over and over while everyone else plays the fragmented versions. That helps everyone to keep on track and stay in time. Double or triple up the parts for ensemble cohesion with a larger group.Practice one key, gradually speeding it up to improve fluidity, or choose a variation and take it through all keys, playing version A, B, C, or D then skipping to play the same set in a new key.If you want an additional challenge, play them in different octaves or change the key. Play the F Major set in f minor (all forms), different modes, etc. Players really have to be on their toes to remember if they are playing melodic minor in the ascending or descending form! For jazz players, try swinging them in dorian or mixolydian modes. The variations are endless! If you are using these with transposing instruments, 1) is F Major in Concert Pitch, 2) is Bb Major in Concert pitch, and so on. When you reach a scale that is enharmonic for another key (Db/C#, Gb/F#, or Cb/B), they are presented in both keys for each instrument so Trumpets can play in Eb while the Flutes are playing in C# with similar examples for all keys. All Donut Etudes with the same volume number are compatible so you can play them in mixed quartets or large ensembles with one or more instruments/people on part 1 and a different instrument on part 2, etc. Since the quartets are all identical, conductors/coaches can use any of the scores to tell which part should be playing at what time. Once you have played a scale with one set of parts, everyone can rotate to a different part and play the same scales again!Enjoy! Donut Etudes vol. 3: Don’t Step in the Holes! – String Quartet

Classical,Contest,Festival,Historic,Multicultural,Romantic Period,World. 15 pages. Keith Terrett #1026496. Published by Keith Terrett (A0.1446730). Sicilienne and Rigaudon for Solo Violin & Pianoforte. The Sicilienne and Rigaudon is one of the many pieces that violin virtuoso Fritz Kreisler composed in the style of other composers. When he first presented and published these pieces, he offered them as recently discovered works by those other composers, newly adapted and arranged by himself. In the case of Sicilienne and Rigaudon, it is eighteenth-century French violinist/composer François Francoeur whose name is on the title sheet, though the piece really has nothing to do with Francoeur's style. The piece is a simple and a charming one, however. The Sicilienne is a binary-form miniature that sweeps along on a characteristic dotted rhythm, with a rather melancholy melody. Think old French ballet. The constant 16th notes of the Rigaudon, give it a character quite unlike that of a traditional rigaudon-a cheerful Baroque dance movement in duple meter. I Don't Want To Miss A Thing

Selling over a million copies in the UK, it reached number four in the UK singles chart. Always a favourite for weddings, Capriccio Quartet recorded it for their repertoire, and it is a song that easily lends itself to a string arrangement.I chose to stick to the original key of D, a great key for string players. At times I have thickened the texture by using double stopping. In this arrangement I have tried to use an open string wherever possible. In some cases there are bare fifths. If you prefer you can choose one of the notes to play instead, especially if this note is doubled in another part. I have also put in some bowing, but the endgame is to feel comfortable, so please feel free to change it and alter the slurring if it makes it easier. I have given the cellist some solos, but everyone in the quartet has some time in the sun in this arrangement. And don’t be afraid to use open strings in this piece, especially in the semi- quavers. They sound great!I am aiming this quartet at the professional market, for weddings and other events, but I am hopeful that younger players will also have the courage to try it, even if the intention is not to ever perform it but to have some fun! Let me hear any recordings you make. I can be reached very easily on Facebook and love to get feedback from people who buy my arrangements. My Youtube Channel has many of my arrangements for String Quartet, most recorded by Capriccio Quartet, and all but two are available as Sheet Music Plus products. Donkey Riding is a traditional work song or sea shanty originally sung in Canada, Scotland and the North Eastern United States. It has also become popular as a children's song. The earliest written record of the song dates to 1857. It is generally assumed agreed that the donkey of the song title is a reference to the steam donkey, a kind of general-purpose steam engine. In this arrangement, each of the melody instruments takes a turn at playing a simple variation on the tune while the piano tinkles gracefully around the harmonies. The sound sample is an electronic preview. The pdf file contains score and parts (including a separate piano part) Versions are available for string trio and piano, wind trio and piano and saxophone trio and piano. There is also a simpler version for three part choir and piano on this site. Brown Shoes Don't Make It

Duration: ca. 6:50Frank Zappa's Brown Shoes Don't Make It is a classic rock song from his 1967 album Absolutely Free. The song is an example of Zappa's trademark satirical lyrics and complex musical composition. The lyrics take aim at materialistic and superficial values in American society, with Zappa's darkly humorous delivery and colorful imagery. Musically, the song combines a range of styles including psychedelic rock, avant-garde jazz, and funk. The instrumentation includes Zappa's trademark electric guitar, as well as vibraphone, organ, and percussion. The song's arrangement is also noteworthy for its use of extended instrumental passages and multiple tempo changes. Brown Shoes Don't Make It is a prime example of Zappa's experimental and iconoclastic approach to rock music, and remains a favorite of fans and critics alike. I Don't Want To Miss A Thing

I Don't Want To Miss A Thing was recorded by Aerosmith for the smash hit 1998 film Armageddon, and it immediately became a huge success. The soulful power ballad debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts, where it remained for 4 weeks, and it remains the band's biggest hit to this day; and of course it's still a very popular request for slow dances and weddings. As the cellist for Aerosmith's Las Vegas residency show, I've performed this song with the band over 50 times, so this one has a special place in my heart! This arrangement for violin & cello duet maintains the beautiful harmonies, soaring melodies, driving beat, and dynamic passion of the original, for a chart that your audience will love listening to as much as you love playing it! Originally written for a wedding ceremony, this will also be perfect for receptions, proposals, pop concerts, or any other occasion that you need to pull on your audience's heartstrings. Rated advanced intermediate, mainly for a number of tricky rhythms and a few high notes in the violin parts. Sarah “Cellobat†Chaffee is an in-demand acoustic & electric cellist and string arranger.
