Artistworks This is a beautiful, tender and heartfelt, finger-style guitar solo (ballad), exactly as performed by The Candlelight Guitarist on the album "Sunflower Serenity." As with other Candlelight Guitarist pieces, it seamlessly blends romantic popular, folk, classical and jazz styles. Written in both standard notation and TAB, it's for a strong intermediate level finger-style player (budding-into-more advanced), comfortable playing up to 12th position, with capable finger-style abilities (either classical or strong folk technique). Brad Powell is a talented and highly trained California guitarist and composer who calls himself "The Candlelight Guitarist", and for good reason. His music is perfect for situations in which candlelight figures prominently. Quiet meditation, romance, intellectual stimulation – the soft, pure tones of his Spanish and classic instrumental style open up your heart and render it more receptive to the spiritual messages that these pursuits engender."

In the tradition of Django Reinhardt, Bireli Lagrene is one of most highly regarded Gypsy jazz, bebop, and fusion guitarists of recent decades. Once regarded as a child prodigy, he has performed with such legendary players as Benny Goodman, Stephan Grappelli, Al Di Meola, Paco de Lucia, John McLaughlin and countless others. Given that roster, one might assume that Lagrene is quite advanced in years, but this is not the case; the fact is, he was drawn to the guitar as a child of four, and after auditioning at the intermission, was invited onstage with Grapelli for the second half- when he was only ten years old. While Lagrene is primarily an ear player, he has collaborated with TAGA Publishing to produce an exceptional book filled with insightful tips on playing the Gypsy jazz style. Bireli Lagrene: Gypsy Jazz Guitar Artistry introduces the intermediate jazz guitarist to the essential rhythms used in Gypsy jazz accompaniment, as well as to the vocabulary needed to improvise in the Gypsy jazz style. Not for the faint of heart, the book includes online audio recordings of 33 rhythm exercises and licks to incorporate the right feel or panache in your own Gypsy jazz performance style. The musical examples are written in either chord symbols or standard notation and tablature. Includes access to online audio. The Contemporary Guitar: An Anthology of New Music

If youve ever wondered about the depth of thought vs. pattern playing that goes into jazz guitar improvisation, youll find the answer in this book. University of North Texas jazz guitar instructor and stellar musician, Davy Mooney is as fluid in writing about the physical and cerebral processes of jazz guitar improvisation as he is in playing over tunes, chord changes and modulations. Mooney describes the guitar fretboard as a labyrinth ruled by shapes and patterns. He recounts his own journey toward fretboard fluency beginning with the CAGED major scale positions and connecting them with ascending arpeggio shapes. The purpose of his book is to show you a way into the labyrinth, how to navigate it, and find your way out, should you so desire. Five is the magic number in this book. With five jazz chord progressions, fretboard scale and arpeggio diagrams in five positions, and transcribed eighth-note improvisations, Mooney illustrates how five giants of jazzMiles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Thelonious Monk, and John Coltranemight have approached improvisation had they been jazz guitarists. Written in standard notation and fretboard diagrams for the intermediate to advanced guitarist already well-acquainted with jazz scale and chord theory. Includes access to online audio for all 60 etudes, play-along and improv examples.
